Lost Watch Diary: Season 1 Episode 4:
This episode was just incredible. Left me in awe to say the least. John Locke you beautiful bastard! The juxtaposition between John before the plane crash, and after the plane crash is exuberantly more distinct than all the other character backgrounds we've gotten so far. Before, John exudes old man energy. So far the version of John we've gotten to know is that he's a quiet but kind character. Almost out of nowhere, we're presented with a new version of John, one who either snuck knives onto the plane or had clearance to do so. Either way it's an unexpected turn of events and it leaves you pondering over who John really is. On the other hand, we're presented with a past that doesn't provide answers for his current state. Instead, it leaves the viewer even more disoriented about his character. In the before (lets call it this so I don't have to say "before the plane crash" every 5 minutes) we see yet another version of John, with an almost childlike demeanor, bullied by his coworkers that look down on him without even trying to hide it. This version of John is an old man you might see at a restaurant eating alone who you feel sorry for (even though you shouldn't!). There's great valor in believing that your dreams are still a possibility. Yet he receives a call at the beginning of the episode that makes you wonder if he's secretly a part of some unknown source that communicate with him via cryptic messages over the phone.
Towards the end of the episode and the camera pans out to reveal that he's in a wheelchair I was genuinely gagged. I'm not normally this easily surprised and I should've guessed it when the episode started with him jiggling his toe but I digress. Suddenly his demeanor throughout the first few episodes starts to make sense, of course he smiled at Kate with an orange peel in his mouth. With his legs now working, and an island full of people in need, it's as if he was placed in the exact scenario to act out his dreams. To him, the island was a blessing, one that no one else can understand.
I'm betting John will become a priest of sorts, a guide that will show many how there is purpose behind the crash and that they should embrace it. I hope he doesn't get crazy and try to keep people from getting off the island, I can see him protesting the idea of leaving.
I think I'll add to this post eventually, there was a lot to talk about during this episode but this was definitely my favorite so far!

Lost Watch Diary: Season 1 Episode 3:
Probably the most boring episode so far. I think I genuinely don't care about Kate, (I know she's a MAJOR character, I'm not saying I hate her I just DONT CARE) so this episode wasn't my favorite out of the three I've watched so far- lol. So my predictions from the first episode were true (click here for my first post) Kate will do anything to survive, but she's the sort that feels bad about it. I think these sort of characters are what remind me that I'm watching a show that's about 20 years old. We were so moralistic in the early 2000's. All villains had a reason for being the way that they were, and if they didn't they simply weren't human at all. I agree with Jack not wanting to know what Kate did. You're stranded on an island with strangers, there's bound to be people that have done bad things and there's no point in dwelling on it especially if you're one of the few that know that the distress call has been repeating for 16 years.
I hope John Locke gets more screen time soon. He spent the majority of the episode building a whistle for Walt's dog and he still let Michael take the credit for finding him despite Michael being suspicious and (I think) jealous of his ability to talk to Walt. He's been supremely quiet so far, but he seems pensive and resourceful. Also Walt is so cute to me I know he's 11 but he has such a baby face I love him.
The moment where Jin-soo is smoothing the hair from Sun-hwa's face changed my perspective on their relationship. At first I thought Jin-soo was abusive, and although it wasn't a very long moment, it is clear to me that they love each other (tenderly) and that his attitude might simply be cultural. Korean culture is all about honor and presentability-fitting into the social norms and it's hard to let go of decades of social teachings especially if you can't have a conversation with the people around you. Of course, for someone who grew up in the West's desire for freedom, you'd see their relationship as toxic and oppressive but for them, it may simply be how it's supposed to be. I hope I'm right, I think they wouldn't have shown this moment if it didn't show you something about Jin-soo's and Sun-hwa's character. I did see some tension between Michael and Sun-hwa though that might've been the naked girl thing. But I hope that instead of breaking up, Sun-hwa (especially) and Jin-soo find a freedom from social expectations that allows their marriage to thrive.

Note
Lost is a sci-fi show!
Makes sense, the score is too serious for fantasy but that would've been so cool!

I've decided to start a Lost watch diary. I have lots to say and no where to put it!
Season 1 Episode 2:
It seems everyone on this show (even the ones who aren't that enthused) has hope that they'll somehow figure out a way to leave and I think that's real sweet of them. Everyone except for Jack maybe seem to have just enough knowledge in a specific field to get the ball rolling. Sayid (anyone else think he's sexy? no? oh ok.) knows a little bit about technology and Shannon partied so much in France she knows about as much French as a toddler does-idc what anyone says btw she's my queen and Id be acting like her too after crash landing anywhere!- (surely by the end of the season she'll learn more- I'm betting on this old French woman to appear like a witch in the night). 16 years of a distress call is disheartening but it really made me think of Claire's baby (who will definitely end up being a boy). Everyone here has developing to do, but they were perfectly constructed (by destiny or God or whatever final boss is out there) to form a somewhat harmonic society, a scientific experiment of human development. But you need a factor to compare it to, a boy born and raised on an island. Now THAT will be so interesting.
Also I need to talk about Charlie. Imagine: you’re tweaking off heroin bc you smuggled it on a plane and they were about to catch you. So you took them in the bathroom and then your plane crashes into an island where mysterious monsters want to kill you and everyone is somehow sexier than you. OUCH. Oh but there's something about him. I just know he was a fan favorite, he's probably a really nice dude. I'll come back to that when his back story drops.
You may be wondering: "omg what do you think about Jack and Kate" nothing. Absolutely nothing, most bland and boring guilt ridden individuals ive ever seen. Both hot and boring!
The episode's focus was definitely not Sun-hwa and Jin-soo but they got me (both of their face cards are INSANE). You would think that falling into a deserted island with just 1 person who speaks your language (your majorly gorgeous wife btw) would soften the stick up your *** but NO. "Button your warm cardigan in the blazing island sun to the top Sun" I. will. kiII. you. (tehe).
You may have seen the moment when Kate and Sun stared at each other from afar as a free woman and a trapped woman. But what I saw when they looked into each other's eyes was their respective cages. Both which will be broken on the island (or so I think).
P.S
Ian Somerhalder is so cutie patootie in this. HOW did they hire him to play Damon?!

Starting Lost as somebody who managed to avoid spoilers for 25 years
Tumblr media
Just started Lost, 21 years after its release. So far I can tell that everyone is bound to have some sort of purpose. A doctor, a pregnant woman, even the dog seems to play a part in what will become the stories dynamic. This moment where Kate is pulling the shoe off of one of the deceased passengers is so telling of her character (what I've gathered). She obviously looks upset, but she does what "needs to be done" in order to survive. She then regards John with an uncomfortable stare when he smiles at her with an orange peel over his teeth as if to say he should be mourning or upset by the dead. But she's the one pulling the shoe off the dead guy.
Can anyone tell me if this is supposed to be sci fi or fantasy? I'm trying my best to not look anything up (I'm going crazy over it).
