Why do I get the weirdest Byler AU ideas -_-

In a galaxy far, far away, the United Galactic Kingdom is ruled by a council of forty-three seats, each taken by a royal House, most of whom rule over at least half their planet.

Michael Wheeler of the Solokovs, adopted son and second heir of the leader of the coldest planet, is technically in line for the council seat of the Solokovs after his elder sister - despite this, he's much more interested in reading books in the library on his home world, one of the largest in the galaxy. However, upon turning seventeen and being allowed to enter the world of the Council, he chooses to go, if for no other reason than to see some of the people he's read about.

At his first gala, though, he sees Will 'Dhuri' Byers of the Al'Jinai, the youngest diplomat to the council in years. The Al'Jinai hold over ninety percent of the galaxy's gold, metals, and jewels - however, due to the native desert tribe's tendency to be isolationist and disregard politics, new technology, and the other worlds' trade offers, they are viewed as backwards and subhuman. Mike is immediately fascinated and attempting to befriend Will, who finds Mike endearing if not a bit of a dork, and they start to become friends, with Will even taking Mike back to his planet to show him the culture and world he won't stop asking about.

While Mike is gone, though, his planet comes under attack by the Dar, a group outside the Council that believes in consuming a planet and its natural resources. Just like that, Mike is the leader of whatever's left of his people, and just like that, he's thrown into a world of politics and subterfuge he's never experienced before.

Will, as a member of one of the most powerful Al'Jinai bloodlines, offers the planet's aid to the Solokov, making an alliance for the first time in history. However, tensions even rise between Mike and Will despite their romance and friendship as marriage is pushed on them, the Dar seek to destroy all that's left of the Solokov and to wipe out the Al'Jinai as well, and the Council becomes more corrupt.

Can the two people and two leaders stand on their own and survive? Or will they fall into bloodstained sand and snow like ashes?
