This was an old sketch study. I tried to draw Mabel in a different art style. I honestly am satisfied with the result. 😊 I wish I could do more studies. I think I’ll do that again tho. Another tip: DO GESTURE AND FIGURE DRAWINGS. For me, gesture drawing help me be more lose and not be too precious with my lines. Weirdly enough, it also helped me be more decisive with my lines as well. The main thing is to allow yourself to make “failed” drawings and lines. It takes away the pressure of strokes on paper and allows you to just have fun. At least it does for me. Figure drawing on the other hand helped me develop my observation skills in drawing. Now I am not yet an expert or anything but these are just things that I learned in my journey to growing as an artist. The most important thing is to have fun with it, which is sometimes lost in the pressures of making a living out of it or in trying to impress other people. As much as art is a two-way street, relatable art comes from expressing yourself in your works. It can mean a lot of various things like fanart or OCs, etc. The fact of the matter is you can’t please everyone and nor should you. Anyway, I’m rambling. But I do hope this helps someone today. I AM FREAKIN’ OBSESSED WITH TALES OF ARCADIA SERIES! Seriously, both the story and world are so expansive and engaging. It’s so incredible and the characters are likable as well. My personal favorite is Douxie from the Wizards series but Claire is freakin’ powerful! Dance, Pink Agaricus. Dance! Lol. I’ve been finding a lot of past sketches in my personal account. Thought I’d post them here as well. I used #coloredpencil for this piece. This was when I was trying to draw everyday for a year. I wasn’t able to finish that challenge though I did learn a lot and also saw improvement. I stopped when I was not having fun with it and it just became like a chore for me. I don’t want to go past the point where doing art feels like a chore to me because that’s just sad. So I gave myself permission to go at it in my own pace. Anyway, if there’s anything I’d like you to take away from this post is colored pencils are fun to use and don’t be so caught up with being “the best” with the expense of your mental well-being. I accept that there will always be someone better than me and that’s ok. I’m still doing my best to learn and grow and most importantly, to have fun along the way. Just discovered that season 4 of #haikyuu is in #netflix !!! 😄😍 It’s great to practice and grow your skills but you know what’s equally important? PLAY AND REST!
