You should go for the rework! I’m currently rewriting my novel with a new protagonist, so I get the feeling but it’s worth it :)

What if I tried working on my wip again and the scenarios in my mind have changed drastically from the previous version??

What if the characterization of the people in the story would make more sense this way but I also need to majorly rework the entire first part of the story to make the character arcs make sense??

What if that sounds like a ton of work but also this new version seems way more exciting and fun and feels more correct with everything I know about the characters??

TL;DR

I have returned for the continued rant, and it's more Milori focused, regarding both your Story (Tink and the Tyrant), your way of writing him, and wondering about his character in WoS.

So first: I read you don't have much time to write, so I thought I'd just ask if you have an after-scene in mind for your Milorian AU, about Milori and the winter fairies and how they reagard each other. Have their perception of him changed, how did they feel about him post-fight, and if they even learned about all his sacrifice and doings. Clearly he cares for his fairies wholeheartedly, so I wonder if they got to see that eventually. And if so, if there was a specific moment you would liked to share!

Writing Milorian: I have not written for years, but their story (and reading your fanfic) sparked the little fire in me that wishes to partake in it, a tiny amount. For child me who wanted to know about them and old me who wants to contribute a little for a character I love. How do you see him, and how do you put that into consideration when writing his actions and thoughts? I love your take on him, and even thought how one sees him differs from person to person, I'd like to hear!

Book Milori: It isn't meant as slander, but when I put the book and tried to think of what bugged me about it, I couldn't place my finger on it, but something about his character didn't feel... complete to me. Kind and strong and brave and willing to do anything for Clarion and his people, but missing a piece. I was looking for a round character, or to him to break more of his shell, I don't know. I think he did do those, but still he felt to me too perfect. On one hand, he started as desperate, bound to Nightmares, hopeless in the wake of their unstoppable power and feeling guilty for it. He was always kind and understanding and had his leveled humor and quick wits. But already in the middle of the book, you know he isn't as desperate and lonely, and that he has hope now. It's told more than felt, to me. And I consider it the most crucial thing that changed in him, the will to hope for better life for him and his people. To want. Perhaps it's also because it's from Clarion's POV, so it isn't felt as much? What do you think? I'd like to hear your opinion and thoughts on this, if you will!

Yeah I’m pretty busy - I sneak in writing where I can, but I have a lot of life and a lot of WIPs competing for my attention. I have contemplated maybe writing a follow-up to TTWW one day, but it’s on the back burner for now because there would be a ton to unpack there. I don’t have any specific moments, but I imagine the dynamic between him and the other winter fairies and him and the other ministers would be very interesting

(As a side note, if you’re interested in something in that vein, I highly recommend @cerseimikaelson’s The Borders Between Us (Bridged With Irises) - it’s a sequel to Secret of the Wings that explores a bunch of stuff like that)

I definitely see what you mean about Book Milori! I saw it too, although I didn’t quite know how to express what it was before I saw this message. His feelings and motivations all seem very inscrutable in the book, almost in a way that makes him seem… almost like a role rather than a person. And that definitely could be intentional! But if it was I wish we’d seen beyond his mask, seen the intensity and turmoil of him living up to that role, in a way we didn’t get to. We heard him say he had hope, but we never got to see him feel despair, and I think that’s why it felt a bit lacking. The combination of him being flat and inscrutable led to him feeling like he wasn’t fully fleshed out

What I’ve tried to do with him - and I hope I’ve succeeded - is portray his feelings behind the mask. Outwardly, he’s still calm and gentle and dignified, but he has a lot trapped under the surface, anger and guilt and regret and exhaustion. Milori is a man who intimately knows loss and intimately knows judgement and derision, and he tries to hold himself up in the face of them but under it all the strain weighs immensely on him. I try to portray him as a man who’s incredibly burdened and who struggles with the way his differences and his needs are ignored

Hi there! I've read your Milorian fanfics on A03 and I must tell you - I enjoyed them plenty. You've got a way of unfolding the story that makes me press the Next Chapter button, each time anew. I've read the whole fic at one seating and then some others of yours, finding them just as delightful as the 10-chapter one. I love the characterization of them, and the description and thought put into the world and their perception of it. Perhaps I'm just a sucker for having my fave character going through so much trauma one can't even start to unpack it, but poor Milori, I just wanted to protect him so he could finally catch a freaking break. I love him so much, and reading about this couple years after seeing the movie (it being my favorite and wanting to know more about Clarion and Milori's tale as a child) brings some sort of joy I can't fully describe. Nostalgia and longing and curiosity about how other perceived their "backsotry" now that it was put to ink and paper.

Oh, and That line. "You're as beautiful as the day I lost you". So many meanings and so much love and so much EVERYTHING. I don't know how I lived my life without reading it. I probably read it already. It's just aa powerful here. It carries so much in it, and it fits them so well, and I love it. The story reminds me of "I know those eyes / this man is dead" from The Count of Monto Cristo, but with a happier note, I persume.

This stretches too long, but I know how how delightful it is when someone talks about your work or hyperfixations ,so I hope it's alright I'll fraction my rant into two parts to make it less intimidating to answer it all at once. Thanks :)

I’m not 100% sure where my brain got that line from, but I believe it was originally in one of the How to Train Your Dragon movies. It suited them so well, I had to put it in. And I do see the parallels to that bit from Count of Monte Cristo, although it’s been a long time since I watched that. Rest assured, Milori and Clarion get to be happy after my fic :)
