So. What now?

Hang tight and keep an eye on all your socials, because our team (@shownohajimarida · @faerynova · @astravis · @summer-r-storm · @foxtae-art) will be sending out invites to the Kaito Redraw server starting on June 10. The Redraw officially launches on June 15, and we want as many of you as possible settled-in before then, so don't anyone go whale-watching, cave-diving, or joining Greenpeace!

Please respond as soon as possible--if you don't respond by June 20 your page may get reassigned to someone else!

If any scheduling curveballs come up, please let us know as soon as possible. The more warning we get, the more chance of something being worked out for everyone!

Now, life being life, we couldn't give everyone their first pick. But we tried our damnedest, and you'll know your assigned page as soon as you get that invite. We hope you'll have fun with it no matter what, but if you really can't live with it, don't be shy to say so.

ummm 4 the mkredraw thingy, do you REALLY need discord?

My devices have a problem with discord for some reason.

It's required, yes. All our participants being in the same (digital) space is so we can keep track of everyone and we don't have to constantly be privately contacting participants for their progress.

I don't know what devices you use but if the apps give you trouble, you could try the in-browser version.

We would still love to have you if possible! I would say that you should sign up and join the server, and then if any issues arise you can contact a mod through tumblr if needed. ( @faerynova or @shownohajimarida )

That said, you aren't required to socially participate, just send in your art when we ask for progress updates (there will be 3 check-ins) and then submit your final art at the end of the event.

Hello, I’m just wondering. When will discord invites start being sent out? I’ll be gone from June 7th-13th and I don’t want my invite to expire :(

We may or may not open early depending on how quickly the sign-ups fill out. Most likely not, but the possibility is certainly there.

However, even if we send out invites before then, June 15th is still our official day for the event starting! So long as your DMs are FULLY OPEN* and you respond within a few days of that date, we'll re-send any expired invites for you.

*This means "only allow messages from tumblrs you follow" must be turned OFF or else we'll be unable to contact you! mkredraw is a shared blog, and shared blogs can't DM people. Mods will be messaging people individually to send out assignments and invites.

We'll post a reminder and more specific details as we get closer to the close date though, don't worry!

Yes, that's right. If this is all news to you, we're putting together a zine to recreate Magic Kaito's first volume, page by unforgettable page. Do you have a pen, a screen, and an all-burning obsession with International Criminal 1412? Then you're welcome aboard!

Now, you may have already seen the banner from earlier this week, in which case don't worry. This one leads to the exact same form, no revisits necessary. Buuut while you're reading this, let's try to clear up a couple questions and whatnot from early applicants...

If you're after specific pages, please make sure to list them in order of priority. Do-overs won't be easy to handle; if you absolutely need one, please contact us privately. We won't attach your name to any Ask without your say-so.

If you're looking to sign up as a team, please understand that still only guarantees one page for all two/three/four of you combined. More will only be assigned if there are still unclaimed pages after signups close June 5.

Once June rolls around, please have some kind of private messaging open to us. We'll need to send you that page assignment and Discord invite somehow.

You can if you want! We just didn't think anyone would be interested in that big of a collab.

But, just to be clear to everyone who wants to do collabs, that means you would have 3+ people working on the same page. We don't assign an equal number of pages to the amount of people on a team.

If you sign up as a team to collab, it's with the understanding that you'll be working together on 1 page, and will only get extras if there are still empty slots AFTER the form closes. We may not have any empty slots by the end of the month--they're filling up fast!

Hey, I was just wondering, could one redo the sign up sheet? I want to change a few of my choices.

We'd really prefer if you didn't, as it would clog the response system that we're using to make sure no one gets left behind.

Nope! Pages are first-come first-serve. We won't be accepting/rejecting based on skill or anything.

This is a for-fun project, so as long as you fill out a form in time and can play nice with everyone then you can participate!

FAQ

When is the Magic Kaito Redraw event scheduled?

Signups open on May 5th. Signups close on June 5th. Discord invites will be given out by June 15th. Artists finish their pages by September 30th. The finished product will be released sometime in October.

What happens if there aren’t enough artists?

Artists will have the option to sign up for multiple pages to make sure we can fill out the whole volume.

What happens if there are too many artists?

If we end up getting applications for as many artists as there are pages, we will close the signup sheets early and no longer accept new applicants.

Will there be a book I can buy when it's done?

Nope. This is a digital zine.

Do I have to draw digital artwork?

Nope! So long as you're able to get a clean scan/photo of your art and it's the correct dimensions, you can use any medium you want. Exact dimensions will be available in the guidelines.

How do collabs work?

If you and a friend want to sign up as an artist team to collaborate on your page(s), then fill out the signup sheet as normal, but specify that you're a team (there will be a check box) and put down both of your names/discord handles instead of just one.

I don’t have someone to ask to collab with. Can I ask someone once in the discord server?

Nope. Due to the way this event is organized, we'll be sorting out who gets what pages before we officially bring people into the discord server. You have to be prepared to do your assigned pages by yourself if you don't sign up with a collab partner at the start.

I filled out the sign-up form. How do I know if I'll get the page I wanted?

You'll be told what page(s) you get assigned by June 15th when we hand out discord invites. Pages are assigned on a first-come first-serve basis, which is why we ask for backup options. Unfortunately, not everyone is going to get a page that they really really wanted. It's the nature of the beast.

I filled out the sign-up form. What if something happens and it turns out I can't make my deadline?

If something turns up in your life and you know you'll be late to a deadline, you can talk to mods about it! We're not going to kick you out because you got sick and fell behind on your drawing time, for example. If something turns up that makes you need to drop out entirely, no worries. That's what pinch hitters are for. Your page(s) will be redistributed to artists dedicated to picking up the slack on short notice.

I filled out the sign-up form. When will I get access to the discord?

We have to assign all the pages, and then we'll contact artists with their page number(s) and a link to the discord. We'll be finished by June 15th, please be patient!

Do I have to have a discord account?

Yes, it’s required to participate. We’re keeping track of everyone and their progress through a discord server for ease of communication and organization. If you don’t have an account, you can make one just for this and then never touch the platform again if you’d like.

I’m not an artist/I don’t want to draw anything. Can I join the server just to see what’s going on?

Nope! Sorry. It’s for mods and participants only. You get to wait and see once it’s all shiny and finished.

Can I be a mod?

Nope! Full up on those.
