2014 november: birthday in Carpathians (FILM)
Travel story started in a very unusual way... When my train arrived in Volovets i had to wait for some hours for my bus. Bus stop was very small, it was quite cold in the morning, sun was only about to rise from foresty mountains, but already it colored opposite mountain with red color. A gypsy woman with a kid came to wait for a bus. Kid's clothes was so miserable that i was just wondering how he is not freezing.
Kiddo was hanging around watching me with interest (cause i was not looking normal for locals). It was a bit awkward for me, as in a big city no one cares, and also it's considering rude to stare at people just like that. There was also a guy, old man, from my train as well, but he was local. With big kind eyes. He took some food from his bag and was having a simple breakfast, like bread and cheese. Maybe half an hour passed, gypsies were still waiting for the bus, kid was bored and came to woman selling some snacks with questions about price of every item. It was clear that he won't buy a thing, but woman was patiently answering to him. In some time kid came to old man an asked if he has some bread... The guy shared his food with kid ant started to ask if child's family lives good, do they have food, does child have a father... Kindness and compassion was shining brightly from man's eyes. He talked a bit with child who was answering without interest, but with high interest kiddo was eating bread. Then old man looked at me with smile and said "Like this Jesus can come to you, to see if you are a good person". Those words were spoken without even a shadow of arrogance. As simple as could be he was...
In Pylypets I found a place to stay easily, spend a day alone walking around and enjoying warm autumn sun... Next day Attila came and we went to see place from the top of a mountain. There was some dozen of tourists, as well people with bikes. Local woman was making hot wine with spices on a fire there. We tasted pastry with wood berries, also some homemade alcohol and went up to the top.
When people's voice became indistinguishable we felt down in blueberry bushes and relaxed. It felt so good to sit there, with endless view, infinite amount of colors, clean air and slight breeze.
On the way down (we decided not to use lift, but walk) we had two dog-guides. It is impossible to hike in Carpathians not have dog-volunteer who will guide you and protect you :)
Beware of Big-Pig guarding entrance to Shypit waterfall! And BTW be very careful on the upper part of waterfall, especially if there are lots of fallen leaves - they are very slippery...
On the way back i had again some free time before my train in Mukatchevo. It happened so that it was the day of city, with parties, outdoor markets af food, wine, souvenirs etc. I had a big wine tasting tour around market :) In the evening I slept in my train like a baby)))

2014 september: ERASMUS+ project in Vasarosnameny, Hungary (VIDEO)
First my trip to Europe) Finally! I wanna share with you my view of Budapest. I liked this city a lot! Beautiful architecture, like i was walking and my eyes were always up to the details of buildings... City isn't crowded, everything seems to be balanced. I think i would enjoy enormously living there))) And this bike rental system: you can take bike wherever it's needed, and return it in any other bike parking place.
Budapest, Hungary from Katia ModaKvoda Vodopianova on Vimeo.
I was lucky to spend couple of days in Budapest. The most memorable for me was Szechenyi bathes. This huge SPA complex opened for visitors since 1913. Through the years it was changing, rebuilding, new thermal springs were rediscovered. So, here it is
Project topic was entrepreneurship, extremely useful nowadays in my opinion. We had participants from Romania, Georgia, Hungary and Ukraine. During 2 weeks we met many interesting people who was invited by hosting organisation, experienced some cultural differences between our countries, food and drinks, seen traditional dances and games. We were riding bikes, had once a tea on a boat, played guitar, sang, doing yoga, played volley on a beach, had a wine-tasting tour in Tokaj.
That was a really good and nice time for all of us!

2014 july: hitch-hiking trip around Georgia (VIDEO)
New adventures in beloved Georgia. from Katia ModaKvoda Vodopianova on Vimeo.
After camping project we had some days till our flight back. Would be stupid to miss this time! Andriy, my travel-mate, had no hitch-hiking experience before, but he was optimistic and fearless. We experienced Georgian hospitality in full amount, seen amazing mix of mountains, rivers, waterfalls, canyons, springs, caves...
First our destination was Borjomi, place with famous mineral water. Mountains around, beautiful park with many kids, street musicians, lots of different springs (hot, cold water) - that was a good place to go!
After we headed to Vardzia- cave town of ancient Christians. Road was rather empty, so it took long time to get there. Our last car was a couple, when they heard out story they invited us for a dinner, promising to give us a ride directly to Cave town even though it is some 6 km from their place. We accepted their kind proposal and met whole family :) They treated us as a dear guests, even gifted home made wine.
We arrived to Vardzia late around 10 PM. Place was empty, so we just went till the very top. There we discovered a small monastery. Surprised monk came to us and said that we are not allowed to be here - place is closed, we should go back down (i tell you way up was exhausting so this option was not a good for us) and stay at camping place... But after some time, some chat, he said - ok, you can sleep in any cave you want but check place to not have spiders (we saw one around 10 cm size and hell fast!) or snakes. We spent a night under the stars. During the night we were attacked by some invisible awful insects! Those bastards were totally quite and their bites i had on my face for 10 days after!!!
Have you seen something like this in churches? Me neither. Chapel somewhere around Borjomi.
Have you seen something like this in churches? Me neither. Chapel somewhere around Borjomi. Later, we were lucky to get a track-driver who was going to Martvili. So we had 150 km with one car. Driver was very insistently inviting us to grab wine and to have a picnic by the canyon so we were forced to leave him and went to local police department to see a map, or just to ask which way should we take to get to the canyon. Policeman treated us with candies and asked another policeman to take us with police car (we were going with the sirens on!) directly to the canyon. On our way we picked up a local guy, the owner of a small cafe on canyon, and we had late dinner together. Guy was quite drunk, so we had some unpleasant moments, but at least we were not hungry)
During the night the rain started, so we moved our sleeping bags under a shelter near cafe, but luckily owner was sleeping so he was not bothering us anymore.
The canyon itself i seen for the second time. For the moment - this place is first i seen in Georgia (in April 2013) and last (for now!). Clear blue water, huge rocks, humid air and loud noise of falling water.. It is a popular place among Georgians to have holidays in. But we were very sad seeing lots of garbage around...
After canyon we headed to Kutaisi to meet there our friends, and to go together to the airport. A young Georgian on BMW picked us up and we had a crazy ride with the speed 130 km/h... As we understood after (driver wasn't talking English or Russian) he took us much more far that he had his plan to go... Maybe because he couldn't take away he huge beautiful eyes from me in a rearview mirror :)

As a group leader of national team i had to go on APV meeting for upcoming project within ERASMUS+ framework. Arsen, one of my team members, came with me. We had 5 days in Georgia, and we were having fun with all possible ways we could! Also i met there Ketevani, girl who i knew from previous project, and we met Bako - friend of Arsen from previous project as well) They made our time in Tbilisi rich and pleasant. And again we staid at Remi's place, he kindly welcomed us)
Tbilisi GE 5-10th June from Katia ModaKvoda Vodopianova on Vimeo.
APV we had in Rustavi, not far from Tbilisi. We had working moments (we were planning project, filled program with events), and that was the first time i had the real SUPRA - Georgian feast. Everybody was sitting on a big table, we said toasts, drank wine from authentic horns. We had just two days together but somehow we became close to each other and we were waiting for to see each other in July, when the project itself was planned.

2014 june 21st: poker&cooking party (VIDEO)
That was just very memorable and cool night when we gathered to make a super dinner together. As you know - cooking together makes people more close, and gives feeling of satisfaction and comfort to everybody. In the end we had mojito, zuppa di pomodoro (tomato soup), and cakes with grilled vegetables. After we played Hold'em till the very morning. To see rising sun we chose two location in Kyiv with beautiful view.

2013 may: Buky canyon in Ukraine (VIDEO)
Unforgettable and cool, unplanned trip to canyon. The birds there are singind 24 hours a day, night ones are even more loud. The place is perfect for camping, you can easily find cozy spot for your tent. We were with car, so i cannot say how comfortable it would be without one.

This was an exchange about gender stereotypes. I traveled through my beloved Georgia, again :)
In Tbilisi i stayed in Remi's house, amazing French who lived in Kyiv for a long time, and now moved to Tbilisi. Before and after project i had around 4 days in Georgia, so i walked i walked and walked..) I love to wonder in Tbilisi, despite i spent there whole summer i don't know city well.
If you never tried churchkhela - please, do! Someday i will write a song dedicated to this delight!
Sameba, the third-tallest Eastern Orthodox cathedral in the world.
Our days in Armenia: we were studying, having fun, having dances, parties, free time for sightseeing.
And the night before day we should leave our hotel happened a disaster - all around was covered with show, roads to Yerevan were blocked, so were were playing snowballs and waiting for hours.
I returned back to Tbilisi, cause my flight was from Kopitnari aiport, Georgia. The weather was much more pleasant and warm. Even after a walk to flee market we had a small nap in park..)

2013 december: seminar in Dilijan, Armenia
That was definitely gift of fate that I happened to be on this project in a frame of ERASMUS+ program. "From fears to dreams" was about personal challenges, solutions, our reactions, our dreams and personalities. First of all that was a personal challenge for me to be around 22 unknown people from 6 countries, doing something together... But i accepted. And that was right decision that in fact change me, my perception, gave me huge blast of inspiration. I am still very grateful for this week. It was defining time for me, and in fact for all participants.
I cannot share thing that we went through during the seminar, cause most of them connected with very personal feelings. One important thing i realized there: you may not notice something good about yourself, but believe me - there are people who value this about you, who you may inspire even not knowing this. That's the reason why i think we should say more often to people how they make us feel. I had a chance to see my self far far away from my comfort zone, i could see my reactions on people, on situations... Sometimes that's was very surprising to realize that finally you've seen something very very important about yourself, now it is the first step to improve, to grow and be a better person.
We were laughing lots, crying lots, thinking and reflecting, playing and reflecting, sleeping, eating, walking together, dancing together, sharing very very personal experiences... That was indeed great time! I am still trying not to lose this feeling on seeing magic in simple things...
THANK YOU!

2013 september: Lviv, Ukraine
Week trip to Lviv, cultural capital of Ukraine. The city is very soulful and looks very European way. I made lots and lots of photos of different buildings because you can look to the details endlessly. Recommend you to visit. Food is really good and not expensive here, and they cook well many traditional Ukrainian dishes. Generally Lviv leaves always good memories about.

2013 july: 4 800km Turkey hitch-hiking (28 days on the way)
From previous trips Luka knew the driver who took us directly from Tbilisi to Trabzon. This was 20 hours road as i can remember. We drove from noon till late night and than driver had a few hours of nap. I couldn't sleep in the car, sitting with Luka on the same sit - that was extra uncomfortable, but - adventures! Next day we said thanks to our driver and headed to Malatya, quite traditional town in Eastern Turkey, where we find CS hosts. This was young modern couple with 4 years old kid. We had a rest a spent wonderful time with them. And that we did impossible thing. Guys were saying that they hosted many people, but noone before us couldn't manage to get to Nemrut Dagi with hitch-hiking! But we were actually very lucky!
The way to Nemrut we started after noon, so we had to sleep on the road. When sunset came we heard to sound of Muslim prays from all around, it was echoing from the naked mountains and running back to numerous mosques. We slept without tent, but it felt safe somehow. In the morning we saw 4 big stray dogs running like crazy across the highway, right next to us! It was so unexpected and felt very dangerous so we even stopped breathing hoping they won't see us.
We reached Nemrut Dagi when sun made an air hot like in an oven. It was hell hot! We had a day nap in warm tent on a hill lost hope to find any shadow there. Sunset we met on the top. Some tourist even came, mostly local ones.
Night we spent among statues, we set the tent directly on the top. There is a story that you should see a sunset and a sun rise on Nemrut, so morning tourist voices waked us up. Rushing to not catch sunstroke we went down to uor hospitable friends in Malatya. And by the way - Malatya is very famous for its apricots. They are exporting many many sorts of this fruit worldwide. When i came back home my heart is always stopping for a moment when i see in Kyiv's markets dried apricots or nougat from Malatya.
Our trip was randomly during holy month of Ramadan. Amazing - religious people are not eating and not drinking (!) during the day! You are allowed to do this between 8 PM and sunset.
Then we had a long ride to Goreme - Cappadocia. This is a huge cave city created approx. 1000 b.c. We had the craziest driver ever. He was having the non-stop ride to his fiance in Antalya and he was drinking one beer after another! When we were talking about this guy after we had a sound of crashing beer can in our ears:) When it was something like 80 km to our aim police stopped him. He couldn't say a word in English so we understood only that they took away his driver license. But you know, this didn't stopped him! He bought some more beer and brought us to Goreme!
This place is much more touristic then Nemrut, as well there is developed infrastructure. The caves are in pretty good condition despite their ancient age, and the place is clean generally. I think we were the only people who were sleeping in the tent right next to this historical heritage! In the morning i woke up absolutely terrified with a weird noise! When i went out of tent (hopefully worn some clothes before) i saw many balloons and the sound was from gas burning when the balloon needed to gain attitude.
Highly recommend you to visit Cappadocia having at least two days to walk around. We reached our next destination - salt lake Tuz - right in time to see the sunset. The level of lake constantly decreasing because of extraction.
We were already used to sleep under the stars, so dropped our sleeping bags on a terrace of some small cafe-bar on the bank. Evidently that was not the season for tourists so the place was neglected (probably during Ramadan month). We surrounded our sleeping place with chairs remembering creepy morning dogs on the way to Nemrut. But not dogs disturbed our sleep. Late in the night some people came with food and drinks and started their night feast... I think they were even waking us up with compassion thinking we are hungry hobos and trying to feed us. I suppose i was angry someone troubles me. Details i don't remember :)
Way to the Mediterranean sea coast goes through high gorgeous mountain gear... The way was long, exhausting but views were breath-taking! In Antalya we had a wonderful host - Russian woman who moved from Omsk to Turkey some time ago. She had duplex with pool in the yard. Finally we had all comforts to give rest to our tired bodies.
We lived in Antalya something like 5 days. After 3 nights spent at ours host place we understood that we should move out but we had absolutely no powers to continue our journey. We were so relaxed! So we decided to sleep two more days just on the city beach..
Day time we were spending in idleness, once we even tried to earn some money for food with street music in Antalya center. Worked not really good :)
Still relaxed we moved froward along the coast. It was end of July so between 11 AM and 7 PM the heat was crazy. Still cannot imagine how Turkish people stand this without any water (of course not everyone is following Ramadan ruled luckily!)
The new cool experience - pick up picked us up! Refreshing drive was that!
By night we arrived to the Olympus mountain. There are some nature gas inflaming from contact with air. There is a ledeng that exactly from this place they took Olympic fire. There was kinda lots of Russian tourists there. Keeping good tradition we slept right on the top. Nearby peaks were foresty and time from time we heard night noises.
The morning we met without a soul around us. Of course we were again the only ones so fearful to sleep open air. The magic combination: forest, ancient ruins, high attitude and emerald sea. Hard to forget! I had a wish just to stay there as long as i could... But needed to continue our trip.
Olympus beach is famous touristic destination even for local people. The place is crowded, expensive but still very beautiful. I think i never saw such huge waves before. I was swimming in Mediterranean sea, watching numerous yachts slowly drifting on clear water. There were ruins of ancient Greek city there, quite big that we even found quite place to have a day nap in shadow of amphitheater.
First time in my life i saw oranges, lemons, grenades and avocados simply growing along the road:)
Next point of our journey was Pamukkale, but we stayed for a night in small town Finike. We set our tent near sea side in city park. Thing about Turkey - even smallest cities are looking very accurate and well cared. We changed a lot during those 3 weeks, not even noticing. Just to have fun once we had an ice-cream lunch - tasty and enough calories :)
On the way to Pamukkale we met wonderful people. Those are two track drivers and the owner of cafe on a highway. But hard to call that cabin a cafe. The place is full made of weird stuff, some thing that before it happened to be a part of building were a garbage probably. But all together looked absolutely amazing! I was delighted by creativity of this old Turkish man! Owner is taking off one of the dried pumpkin from the ceiling to show me what's that. He keeps some small stuff inside, like coins for example. Sadly I was very shy to take pictures of all those amazing details of the interior.
Drivers left us in a city where our ways were going different directions. City was a long type so we had to walk for some good hour to find a place we can catch the car... It was around 9 PM, we were tired and stayed just near some house to have dinner (bread, some tomatoes and water). We were quietly eating our simple meals when locals saw us from their balcony. One by one all family members went to the balcony lively discussing something. In minutes they went down and started to talk to us, of course they didn't know English. But what they did: they opened doors of a big room on the ground floor (looked like a cafe to us), took a table and two chairs from there, brought to us, and in some seconds we were sitting not on the floor but on the table full of food this kind people brought from their kitchen for us. We were astonished! My heart just got so big and warm from their kindness, from fast reaction of this people, they were not asking any question, they just gave us food and rest! After we ate they even took us with car to the city border to make our hitch-hiking easier.
Some young local couple took us to Pamukkale. I made hell lots of night pictures of this place. I love night photography - it is pure magic. But with some joke of fate entire folder with my of course genius photos just disappeared! I'm still sad, believe me, this is really rare thing to see Pamukkale at night!
We slept nearby and in the morning saw a huge turtle going slowly on his business. To see turtle just like that is not a surprise for Turkish people. It's nothing special. But i had a cruel idea to take turtle to Kyiv, luckily for animal i haven't done this.
Another cool experience: I ate figs directly from a tree... And we were throwing fruits to geese ans ducks living there :) But they did not took from the hand despite all my kind words ans honest eyes.
All the day we spent making photos, running after ducks, running away from angry huge geese, eating figs, and giving our knees vital calcium.
And than was the long long way to Tbilisi. Long days
and nights with surprising guests
And here was also a good man sent by luck to us, he was heading straight to Ordu, city close to Georgian border. He spoke no Eglish, like most of people we met in Turkey. He was very kind, as we understood he is a teacher in a local school. He invited us to spend a night in his family house. We were glad to except his invitation. If you will somehow happen to Ordu - obligatory try local hazelnuts - these are the truest huzelnuts in the world! So we are, Luka and Katcha on the first
and on 28th day of our Big Turkey Trip
Travel more!

2013 may: Armenia hitch-hiking
Me and Luka, my Georgian friend, started our journey from Tbilisi. We were speaking English with each other, as his Russian skills were not so good at that time. So at Armenian border we looked kinda weird among other people who were crossing the border by feet.
To small town Alaverdi we even hitch-hiked the bus) Tha t was very kind from a driver!
Not far from Alaverdi somewhere next to the highway we spend a night. It was May 19th, night was pretty cold, and the drizzling rain was not making the cozy feeling.. Next morning we headed further. And this is how slot machine looks like in Vanadzor.
The weather still was freezing. The guy talking with a policeman was Russian working as a surgeon in Armenia. He kindly picked us and even treated with coffee in his friends gas station. And policeman by the way is also his friend, whose daughter he was treating at the moment.
So we arrived to the Sevan lake. It is really huge and beautiful. There is an ancient church on the hill. Area is full of Armenian people in summer now was lonesome.
We were actually freezing all evening and all night, but the next morning was sunny and we had a nice breakfast on the lake. The waves were actually sea size what amazed me. The mountains on the horizon were covered with snow.. We had a dog guide as well:)
We caught a nice car to Yerevan. The driver was very pro-Russian type, as many people in Armenia are. Yerevan is a nice big city with beautiful architecture and women. But the most i liked is that you can see the mountain Ararat very clearly. Would be nice to live in city with personal mountain :)
We spent next night somewhere on the way to Aragats - we saw on the map there there is a peak, so we decided to have a hike there. In the morning we asked local people about it but those who could actually understand what we wanted from them said that it is impossible to climb this time of year, cause we will freeze till death, snow is still there and its very cold. So we headed back to Tbilisi. Views were stunning. Smooth shapes of green heels with white snow on them, and fast clouds flying low covering mountains with changing shadows.
In Vanadzor we had a great lunch. The city is long so we had to walk entire through it to start catching car on the highway. We saw this is a small shop :)
And our mood was much more better more close were were to warm and beautiful Tbilisi.
To relax we went to Mtatsminda amusement park on a hill from where you can see whole city. Generally it felt very good knowing you will have warm bed, and shell not worry about food and coldness anymore)

2013 may: holiday picnik in random place
Why not to spend a day in a random place by the river? Good and reasonable question.
That time Kozelets happened to be our picnic destination. An hour with bus - and we are there. Spirit of rural place, quietness after roaring city, what else could we want? We settled up the fire place, baked potatoes, made salads and tea. Just calm soulful time.

2013 april: Georgia hitch-hiking crazy trip (FILM photos)
My first flight, first glacier, first hitch-hiking and many many wonderful thing. The story how my strongest love to Georgia begins.
Then we had a long way with crazy drivers, cows on the road, weird in a good way monks of local church to the Oniori waterfall. We arrived there after sunset. I will never forget how first I've herd water... In complete darkness we were walking without path just to the sound, and then - we saw the waterfall in lights of our flashes... Night was surprisingly warm. Imereti region is considered as the warmest in Georgia. We were sitting along the fire and sometimes huge waves of warm air were covering us... And in the morning we saw cows crossing icy cold river, they were walking in such a relaxed way!
We had a breakfast, made some pictures and clear and warm air made us sleepy. Having a nap right near that beauty, hearing waterfall, feeling pleasant sun heat on the face.
Till the evening we were at Tbilisi, Georgia capital. From there we moved to Ananuri water reserve, even we tried hitch-hiking what was so new for me. When we arrived to the lake rain started, severe rain. Sun was about to go down and we just settle our tent under the rain, the night was pretty cold...
In the morning we put all our wet clothes to get dry on the sun and Vadim went to make some photos. Later i got an SMS that he met a fisherman and went with him to the other bank with the boat. Georgia was making a surprise every days for me, such a different people from Ukrainians!
After we spent some days in Tbilisi. City is amazing mix of European comfort and Asian spirit. Many ancient building, extra tasty food, even flora is so different from my country. I should say that was my first trip so far away so everything was so new and exiting. And even if you've been to many places, believe me - Georgia will not leave you indifferent!
For the weekend we had a plan to go with Luka to Lagodekhi waterfall. It is situated in Kakheti region, close to Azerbaijan border. Roads in Georgia are not so good, 200 km can take 4 hours... Also region is partly mountainous so it also slows you down. From the main road where we left our bus we had to walk some hours through village. And of course cars were passing us were proposing a ride, or to treat us with food and wine - Georgians are very interested in tourists in a good way. And I should mention their good attitude to Ukrainian people as well.
We arrived to entrance of National park in the dark, so decided to spend a night there and to go to waterfall in the morning without our backpacks. The road to Lagodekhi goes along the river. Forester warned us that river went out of the banks and it is quite dangerous to go to waterfall at this time of the year, but we were fearless and craved for adventures. The hike took 2 hours.
Breath taking view on waterfall.. The sound of water was so load that we had to yell to hear each other. Even 50 meters from it the air was full of smallest water drops. The wood was humid and green, spring was already here.
We spend another night there near the river in tents... This is the view on the back way.
Some days after we headed in west north part of counrty - mountainous Svaneti. To rich the place we took night train to Zugdidi, and then 3 hours with mini-bus on mountain road. Mestia is a small town but last years it was modernized to make region more attractive for tourists. Police in Mestia surprised us with hospitality, they allowed us to set up a tent in city park and to use Police department's kitchen :)
The road to glacier was exhausting, long but beautiful.
Last days before coming back to Ukraine we had an opportunity to discover Tbilisi better. Recommend you to visit Narikala fortress, there is an amazing view to Tbilisi from up there. Even rain didn't stop us.
Sameba church constructed between 1995 and 2004, it is the third-tallest Eastern Orthodox cathedral in the world. Georgian churches made me experience some spiritual and unique feeling that i never felt before. There is something so honest, it makes you feel your soul, your life as part on Universes life...
From these 20 days my deep affection to Georgia started. Now every possibility i had to visit this country i just couldn't loose. Next year i spent around 7 months from 12 in Georgia.
