Halloween Jobs Raise your hand if you love Halloween! Raise your hand if you love money! If you raised your hand twice, then this post is for you. (Ok, did anyone literally raise their hands there? I need to know.) With all the candy, and costumes, and parties, Halloween can be a rather money draining holiday, can't it? But it doesn't have to that way! Take advantage of this spooooky time of year and put money back into your wallet with a Halloween side job. amzn_assoc_placement = "adunit0"; amzn_assoc_tracking_id = "mocotw-20"; amzn_assoc_ad_mode = "manual"; amzn_assoc_ad_type = "smart"; amzn_assoc_marketplace = "amazon"; amzn_assoc_region = "US"; amzn_assoc_asins = "B07GJHX71Q,B06ZZQZCN2,B01BEYQ9PU,B014APWD4G"; amzn_assoc_linkid = "a947f1897f280ddf136bc8b6ef32b21c"; amzn_assoc_design = "in_content"; ▲Make and Sell Halloween Crafts Are you handy with a hot glue gun or a sewing machine? Make fabulous crafts like door wreaths, yard signs, garlands, candles, costumes, and much more. You can sell your goodies on Etsy, eBay, Facebook groups, and even take custom orders. ▲Get a Temp Job at a Popup Halloween Shop Seasonal stores like Spirit Halloween Shop are going to be in need of help so drop on by one and fill out an application as soon as you see the stores setting up. Many craft and party supply stores are going to need a little extra seasonal help as well so check those places too! You might even get an employee discount so you can stock up on your own cool Halloween duds and decor. Halloween Seasonal Jobs ▲Get Hired at a Haunted House Get paid to scare the pants off of people? Fun! Looking for something a less scary? Some haunted houses aren't just in need of zombies and werewolves. They need builders, ticket takers, clean up crews, etc. Check the local paper or simply do a Google search for "haunted house jobs". ▲Write a Halloween or Horror Ebook Halloween is this perfect time of year for a reading a good spine chiller and people will be on the lookout for books that will fit their spooky mood this season. Publishing an ebook through Amazon is actually pretty easy, (cover design and all) and you can even make your book available in print and it only has to be 24 pages to go to print! Will you be the next Stephen King? You'll never know unless you try! Maybe horror isn't your bag? A nice Halloween romance would be ideal for any romance fan during this time of year. ▲Face Painting at Halloween Festivals A fall festival without a face painter is like a caramel apple without a stick. It just ain't right. Check social media and newspapers for upcoming Halloween events and contact the event's director to see if you can set up a face painting booth. Borrow or buy a popup canopy (you can find them quite cheap anywhere), get a table, a couple chairs and of course your face painting supplies. I wouldn't recommend jumping into this without getting a lot of practice in first, so get on YouTube, check out some books, and study up on the best paints and techniques. ▲Be a Vendor at a Festival. Your town probably hosts a public fall festival and they're probably going to be looking for vendors. At festivals, you can sell your crafts of all kinds, direct sales products, foods, services, etc. You'll probably need your own popup canopy and table and chairs so make sure you know what's needed beforehand. It's no fun vending an even unprepared! Check out a vendors checklist HERE. ▲Enter Contests that Pay Cash Prizes Many bars have costume contests on Halloween and they offer cash prizes. These might be pretty easy to win if you're creative and stay away from drugstore costumes to avoid showing up in what everyone else is wearing. You should also check online for costume contests that will take photo submissions. And don't forget to look into local and online pumpkin carving contest too! Check out 6 Costume Contests With Cash Prizes from The Penny Hoarder ▲Photoshoots If you're a photographer, promote yourself heavily and offer to do staged or impromptu photoshoots of people in their costumes. Many people spend a lot of time working on their costumes that are only going to be worn for a few hours and they'll only have a few phone pics to look back on. I'm sure they'd love to see their creativity and hard work featured in good quality photography. Offer to do awesome shoots with smoke bombs, fog, bubbles, in pumpkin patches, alleys, etc. ▲Babysit Sometimes, mommies and daddies like to have Halloween fun... without the kids. Halloween events can start as early as the last weekend in September so post on social media as soon as you can that you're for hire. You might even get a bonus if you offer to take the kids trick-or-treating as well! Do you know of any more great Halloween side hustles? Let me know in a comment below! amzn_assoc_placement = "adunit0"; amzn_assoc_search_bar = "true"; amzn_assoc_tracking_id = "mocotw-20"; amzn_assoc_ad_mode = "manual"; amzn_assoc_ad_type = "smart"; amzn_assoc_marketplace = "amazon"; amzn_assoc_region = "US"; amzn_assoc_title = ""; amzn_assoc_linkid = "54fe43a2d743da761a82899697b2c068"; amzn_assoc_asins = "B01D10RV9S,B01LYIGQQF,B014JIGLF6,B07577NKN6,B0108FTHA0,B07649253F,B071HRXPP2,B07GDJ2FBR";

I've noticed that I've been gaining quite a lot of new followers on Bloglovin'. That's pretty fantastic but the thing is, I'm not blogging here anymore. But, no worries... I'm still blogging! You can catch me over at www.bohemianwisdom.com Bohemian Wisdom is very similar to Quirky Bohemian Mama but I'm not just focusing on bohemian parenting. That was a really small niche and finding new followers was very hard. So, I decided to start blogging about broader topics like self-improvement, wisdom, and relationships so that I can appeal to a much wider audience. For some strange reason, I can't put the new blog on Bloglovin. So, the best I can do is redirect you guys to the new blog and ask that you sign up for the newsletter. There should be a pop-up form as soon as you reach the site, and there's also as subscription form at the top of every page. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I hope to see you over at the new blog soon!

Well, guys. This is the last post for Quirky Bohemian Mama. Why, oh why? Because I have a NEW BLOG! YAY!!! There's a saying that goes, "Stop shrinking yourself to fit into places you've outgrown." I feel like that's what happened with me and Quirky Bohemian Mama. I'm more focused, I'm more creative, and more mature than when I started QBM. Last month it suddenly became clear to me that the reason why I was struggling to come up with new content, was because I wasn't really writing anything that could enrich other peoples lives in a meaningful way. It was time to move in a new direction that will allow me to talk about deeper topics like life and mental health, and less about where to buy dresses and end tables. I have been quietly working on this new project for several weeks now. It's not 100% complete, but I think it’s ready to be shared. Bohemian Wisdom is a blog for free spirits, empaths, hippies, bohemians, old souls, and everything in between. Along with other talented writers, I'll be bringing you fresh, new original content and updated QBM posts about living your best life - the bohemian way. The Quirky Bohemian Mama blog will continue to stay up, and Bohemian Wisdom can be found HERE. I truly hope you all enjoy it! Cheers! Hollie

Modest Halloween Costumes | Historical Halloween Costume Ideas I'm not a fan of buying Halloween costumes; I'd much rather DIY but I completely understand that not everyone has the time or the know-how to do that. So, for those women, you'll most likely go to store only to find... :sigh:. You know what I'm about to say! Sexy cat costume. Sexy fireman costume. Sexy Red Riding Hood. Sexy policeman costume, etc...I've even seen a sexy Elmo and Spongebob costume! C'mon! If you're not into those kind of "costumes" then come check out these awesome costumes inspired amazing, strong women from throughout history. Buy them or use them as inspiration to make you own if you find that you actually do have the time! And yes, my nerdy butt put the costumes in historical order. LOL! Post contains affiliate links. Cleopatra 69 BC -August 12, 30 BC A little overplayed, but c'mon, who wouldn't want to be Cleopatra for just one day? And of course this is the perfect half to a couples costume. Dress your guy up as Julius Caesar and win like, all the costume contests. _________________________________________________ Joan of Arc 1412 - May 30, 1431 In order to truly embody Joan of Arc, one must don a full suit of armor... but I wouldn't really recommend investing in that just to wear for a couple hours at a Halloween party. No, wait. Maybe I should recommend it Do it. Buy the armor instead. _________________________________________________ Anne Boleyn 1501 - May 19, 1536 (Insert a "don't lose your head" pun here, because I'm too lazy to think of one.) As the former director of a renaissance faire, I declare this costume to be "not bad for the price" and it would be a great costume for the casual faire goer who's not too persnickety about garb accuracy. But, hear me out for about $40 more you can get a steller, faire quality costume from one of my favorite garb sites ever, Majestic Velvets. That's not an affiliate link. I really do like that store! Hang on, I'm not done here. Anne Boleyn just isn't Anne Boleyn without her signature necklace! _________________________________________________ Pilgrim 1620 Ok, I know you're probably wondering... "Um, a pilgrim. Why?" Well, when it comes to costumes I'm all about originality and standing out, so with that being said, how many pilgrims have you ever seen on Halloween? Go ahead. I'll wait. Heck, go for the gold and dress your whole family as pilgrims this year! Yeah! _________________________________________________ Harriet Tubman 1822(?) – March 10, 1913 Tubman is without a doubt one of the most bad a** women in American history and I'm pleased as punch to see she has a respectable costume that can be used for both Halloween and historical presentations for teachers and storytellers. This costume can also be used for a number any 19th century women including Susan B. Anthony! (The lanterns not included but you can find one HERE. I'd also recommend wearing a wool shawl around your shoulders for better details.) _________________________________________________ Annie Oakley August 13, 1860 - November 3, 1926 "I ain't afraid to love a man. I ain't afraid to shoot him either." Annie Oakley was more than just "Little Miss Sharpshooter". She was an out and proud feminist who refused to let gender stereotypes get in her way. _________________________________________________ Suffragette 1903 - Today Votes for women! This costume is perfect for the modern feminist! Pay tribute to the women who fought hard to earn us the right to vote with this super cute and original outfit. You can find a different style suffragette costume HERE. _________________________________________________ Flapper 1920s She can drink, she can smoke and baby, she can vote! I know the flapper is a pretty common costume, but it can done in so many ways - from Halloween cliche to the more historically accurate versions liked in movies like The Great Gatsby and Chicago. _________________________________________________ Amelia Earhart July 24, 1897- declared dead in 1939 She wasn't the first female pilot in history but she was the first to fly across the Atlanta. Earhart was incredibly ambitious and brave and her disappearance after her attempt to circle the globe rocked the nation. I'm sure Earhart today would be flattered that you chose to dress as her but I'm 100% sure she would advise against the stiletto boots as they can damage plane equipment. (This costume could also work as a Bessie Coleman costumes. It's not her most iconic look, but if you're a black woman wearing an old fashioned aviator costume, people will know who you're supposed to be!) _________________________________________________ Lucille Ball August 6, 1911 - April 26, 1989 Arguably one of the funniest women in history, Lucille Ball's show, I Love Lucy provided America with a number of American television firsts including: The first interracial couple on TV and the first visibly pregnant woman whose pregnancy was acknowledged; and to top is all off, in real life was the first woman to run a major production company. Now, it's one thing to dress as Lucy but it would be super cute if your dressed your son or husband as Ricky Ricardo! _________________________________________________ BONUS IDEAS: (In no particular order) Marie Antoinette Frida Kahlo Calamity Jane Anna May Wong Josephine Baker Catherine the Great Grace O'Malley Mother Teresa It was extremely hard to narrow this list down to just 10 women, so I chose the most recognizable women with costumes that are available to buy with little extra accessorizing needed. amzn_assoc_placement = "adunit0"; amzn_assoc_search_bar = "false"; amzn_assoc_tracking_id = "mocotw-20"; amzn_assoc_ad_mode = "manual"; amzn_assoc_ad_type = "smart"; amzn_assoc_marketplace = "amazon"; amzn_assoc_region = "US"; amzn_assoc_title = " "; amzn_assoc_asins = "1452153930,0316475114,B06XBDR4DQ,B00TP04KOS,B004DPCDB2,0735216924,B06XBP7XB1,B01LYZN2B3"; amzn_assoc_linkid = "ac7246fcd029a414a3be8545c4c5531f";

Fall Boho Dresses | Bohemian Autumn Clothing Autumn is my favorite season! I can't stand summer. I absolutely hate summer. Have I mentioned that before? LOL, I'm pretty sure I have. And here's the thing, I live in East Texas and we don't really get real autumn here. The leaves will start to change but it'll still be about 80 degrees. Every now and then it'll get up into the 90s but the nights get much cooler. We don't really start experiencing fall-like weather until around November or October, so we rarely get the full experience. We don't get beautiful autumn foliage plus cool weather. It's either one or the other. It's either Autumn foliage in 90 degree weather. Or naked trees and 50 degree weather. But all of this doesn't stop me from absolutely adoring fall. Yes, I'm one of those crazy autumn lovers, but minus the pumpkin spice everything. Fun fact: I've never even had a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks. Hype freaks me out. Autumn allows me to dress the way I truly love to dress. I like to wear pants and I don't like skirts and tops either. I'm a dress girl. I love wearing dresses with leggings and boots and layering shawls, scarves, sweaters, and all those autumnal goodies. Autumn allows me to do that without sweating my bum off. Here are a few dresses under $30 that I found on Amazon and Shein that I've totally got my eye on for the season. I hope you enjoy my picks! amzn_assoc_placement = "adunit0"; amzn_assoc_tracking_id = "mocotw-20"; amzn_assoc_ad_mode = "manual"; amzn_assoc_ad_type = "smart"; amzn_assoc_marketplace = "amazon"; amzn_assoc_region = "US"; amzn_assoc_linkid = "97bbe749b4af6e4d2605a2bfa49f5fb1"; amzn_assoc_design = "in_content"; amzn_assoc_asins = "B017R5L3RO,B078NQ91QX,B077FVF84Z,B07M9TZH5X,B01NCKHZC5"; amzn_assoc_title = " "; $25.99 $21.00 $18.99 $16.99 $18.99 $22.99 $19.99 $26.00 $16.00 $25.98 $24.00 “Aprils have never meant much to me, autumns seem that season of beginning, spring.” - Truman Capote Which dress is your favorite? Every now and then I like to swoop down from my sparkling cloud of bloggery and walk among the common folk to talk about how awesome I am. Tee hee. Beholdeth! I am the goddess of sarcasm. Nah, out of all seriousness I came across another blogger's post that was something like "25 things you don't know about me" or something like that and I thought it looked like a really fun idea to try. And now I get to open up to my readers more about my personal life. But I'm only going to do 10 things because I'm a pretty wordy writer. So, here we go. 10 things you probably don't know about your dear ol' bohemian mama. amzn_assoc_placement = "adunit0"; amzn_assoc_tracking_id = "mocotw-20"; amzn_assoc_ad_mode = "manual"; amzn_assoc_ad_type = "smart"; amzn_assoc_marketplace = "amazon"; amzn_assoc_region = "US"; amzn_assoc_linkid = "475f31ce89d3dd70e7d6c5793b84adab"; amzn_assoc_design = "in_content"; amzn_assoc_asins = "1419724827,1781682615,1849756228,0500294984"; amzn_assoc_title = " "; ► I have a large port wine stain birthmark on the back of my left thigh, in the bend of my knee, and on the side of my left foot. That's not the strange part, the strange part is that it didn't start developing until I was a little girl. I wasn't born with it. It just randomly started developing and gradually became darker as I got older. ► I don't go to the cinema. The last time I went to the theater was to see The Lion King remake. The only reason I went to that is because I wanted my children to have their first cinema experience, I really wanted to see The Lion King, and I wanted to share that experience with them. That was my first time at the cinema in about 10 years. So why don't I go to the movie theater? •I am a multitasking addict. I can't sit and do just one thing. I need to be doing something else like drawing, or mending clothes, or something. Kind of hard to do in a movie theater. •Also it's expensive. I am a little bit of a cheapskate and I would rather spend my money on a more unique experience. ► I'm not a well-travelled person. That sounds pretty un-bohemian, I know, but I have a reason. Growing up, my family didn't travel at all so it's not in me to want to venture far. Well, we did go to South Padre Island for vacation once and went right over the border to Mexico, but that's about it. When me and my husband first got married we were struggling really bad financially so traveling was definitely out of the picture. Then we had children pretty early into our marriage and we were still struggling, so traveling was definitely a no-go then. We're saving up for a house right now, so we're just sticking to small road trips every now and then until we can get settled and stable enough to be more adventurous. ► I'm a night owl. I can't even remember the last time I went to bed before midnight. I go to bed around 2- 4am and I wake up between 9:30-11am. I enjoy night time, I feel the most alive when it's dark and quiet. When everyone is asleep, I'm free to continue working on my blog without interruptions. ► I homeschool my kids. Homeschooling isn't entirely my choice. My husband is extremely against public school, and I completely understand why. Public school is a very flawed system that is in desperate need of reformation. One of the perks of homeschooling is I can work from home which is great for me because I have an anxiety disorder that makes working in public with co-workers very difficult. ► I don't watch a lot of TV. Our TV stays off for most of the day until it's time for the kids to go to bed. I don't keep up with television shows. We don't do Netflix, or Hulu, or Amazon, or any of that other stuff. I've never seen Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black, etc. I'm just not interested. But sometimes, when the kids have gone to bed I get to watch recorded episodes of Family Guy. I looooove that show! The humor is right up my alley! ► I love to vacuum. I know it sounds strange, but sometimes I like to wait until the floor is really dirty just so I can have the satisfaction of cleaning it and seeing the difference. ► I have a terrible phobia of snakes. I'm not afraid of snakes. What I'm afraid of is seeing them. Seeing a snake triggers something inside me that I just don't understand, and I can't control it. I've even thrown books as a reflex because I stumbled across a photo of a snake. I used to like to collect Ripley's Believe It or Not books, and my husband would have to go through and mark out all of the snakes with a black permanent marker so I could get through the book without throwing it. LOL! It's something about the way they look and the way they move that just makes my body go into to mini-shock whenever I see them. ► I'm not afraid of clowns. Speaking of phobias, I'm not afraid of clowns at all. In fact I love clowns and I was even considering becoming one last year as a side job. I love dressing up in bright colors and entertaining people and I think it would be so fun to make balloon animals, and make children laugh their bums off with my silly humor and funny gags. There are a million things that I want to be and 'clown' hasn't been marked off my list yet! ► I spent half my childhood in the suburbs, and the other half on a farm in one of the tiniest rural towns in Texas. When my mother remarried, she married a super country guy. I traded in bicycles and rollerblades for three-wheelers and BB guns. I adapted to rural life as if I'd been living that way forever. We had cows, chickens, and pigs. Most of our food was grown at home and my stepfather hunted and fished for a huge portion of the meat we ate. As an adult, I prefer a 50/50 split of that lifestyle. I want to live in the city, but not a huge bustling city like New York or anything like that. I want to live in a big city but with lots and lots of land for homesteading. The town I lived in only had about 40 people, so I went to school in the next town over. The only thing the town had was a tiny convenience store, and a post office which was a single-wide mobile home. Don't believe me? This is the post office in the photo below! And there you go! You just learned a little bit more about yours truly! Do We have anything in common? Let me know in a comment below! amzn_assoc_placement = "adunit0"; amzn_assoc_search_bar = "true"; amzn_assoc_tracking_id = "mocotw-20"; amzn_assoc_ad_mode = "manual"; amzn_assoc_ad_type = "smart"; amzn_assoc_marketplace = "amazon"; amzn_assoc_region = "US"; amzn_assoc_title = "My Amazon Picks"; amzn_assoc_linkid = "987a31a6a96298e421df24788e95d1c2"; amzn_assoc_asins = "B019MBQGBE,B01A8IVLV0,B07DW7278M,B07MSKBGQ1,B07SWTLZF9,B01N0LM79O,B07RBTKY8S,B0107M2BV6";
