i don’t think he’s consciously fantasizing about vash as His Thing, he still feels that he cares about plants having autonomy and Vash is included in that. but like in his mind vash would be HAPPY to have his brother controlling him. nai will make it so no one will hurt him ever again. stripped of human’s influence and truly given the choice vash would be in his arms obeying him because in his heart of hearts he loves nai, it’s just that his love has been beaten down over the years

and clearly vash can’t be responsible for his own body, he’s let it be ruined so extensively. only nai has the power to make him better and keep him safe so of course nai should keep him on a leash, it’s just good for him

knives is the “if you leave I’ll hurt myself” type and Vash gives into it every time because he knows knives will follow through and he can’t stand to leave his brother hurt and alone even if they’re just little cuts. vash will beg knives to be more gentle with himself but he’ll never call his brother out for being a manipulative bastard, he’s not strong enough for that and god forbid he pisses knives off enough for him to do something more dangerous

knives may act like he hates how selfless vash is but he LOVES being on the other end of it. he knows damn well if he puts himself in danger vash will come running to save him every time no matter how much of a prick he’s being and he thrives off vash desperately trying to be his savior

and Vash lowkey knows knives is manipulating him but he’s seen knives lose control and hurt himself and he’s seen knives at such a genuinely low point he’d hurt himself for the sake of it and he doesn’t want to take the risk that maybe it’s not just a ploy to get taken care of this time and his brother really does need him

so he pulls knives into his lap and kisses him and bandages his wounds and begs him to take better care of himself knowing damn well this will happen again and he’ll do exactly the same thing

thinking abt the fact that the way vash loves is fundamentally damaging to himself, he’ll put himself at risk of being hurt or killed at the drop of a hat bc he’s so full of love and it needs to go somewhere and all he can think to do with it is put himself in danger.

meanwhile nai is so full of love for one thing only and he’s unable to express that love without hurting the subject of it. he can’t just love vash, vash has to be his and no one else’s, he has to make himself vash’s entire world because vash is HIS entire world and he just wants that reciprocated. he can’t let vash have any agency BECAUSE he loves him so much and he can’t let the only thing he loves out of his sight.

vash can never love nai the same way nai loves him but he can love him in an equal and opposite way that ends very very badly for vash

really getting into the hc that knives assumes/insists any sex humans have with vash must be rape. if vash says he likes it they’ve just manipulated him into thinking that. he can’t imagine having sex with humans willingly and humans are obviously all horrible monsters with no qualms about raping someone so they must be raping vash.
