Hello my loves. If you remember my Magic the Gathering or Keyforge comic series I PLEAD you to at least checkout my new comic Solo Self Found.

It's just begun and should get weird. It's about Path of Exile the video game but also kinda not...

It's using the webtoon vertical format so for my it's a little experimental. But I'm having fun with it and exploring what that can offer. Here are a few tasters.

Sharing, subscribing or liking would give me the wind in my sails to keep following this thing for the love and fun of it.

Montreal Wizard UPDATE

Hello my wonderful friends. It’s been SOME TIME HASN’T IT!? SO I’m still alive and active, just not on Tumblr hey... So if you wanna keep up to date on the fun you can follow me on twitter here.

What’s been goin on? A LOT! I finished my new film The Pioneers which will be distributed next year.

I’ve formed a small creative studio with Malcolm Sutherland called Studio Tortu.

Our huge crazy film Dragon Hunter is getting closer and closer to being finished.

We have a PODCAST! That is a radio drama we create using a super sophisticated Artificial Intelligence! You can check that out here, it’s called Deep Folk: Tales from the Generator.

We’ve been making and prototyping our own board games too! We have two in development. We are developing them using Table Top Simulator and will have beta releases in 2021:

Sewerlight - A 4 player area control, troop movement, card playin, sewer romp. (Malcolm Sutherland is lead designer)

Sewerlight: Tactical Filth - A 1v1 tactical grid miniatures game of sewer traversing septic fiends. Featuring rusty hammers, spew, the occult, guts on the outside, swear words, juice and used needles.

SO as you can see we’ve been busy BEES!

Christmas & New Year Cheer

Merry Christmas my dudes! I hope you got that shiny new red bike you wanted, the one with the basket and the tassels. I had the genius idea to gift keyforge decks to most of my extended family, hoping that might mean I get to play during the family gatherings. And whaddya know, IT WORKED!

My Bro in Laws Marc and Phil punching each other in the face with their new mean Brobnar decks. MERRY CHRISTMAS! Marc picked me for secret santa and gifted a two person Keyf playmat! So stoked!

After Christmas Felipe and Malcolm came round for a BIG DAY OF CARDS. Malcolm surprised Felipe and I with some of his custom card art for our favourite decks! They relate to our real life struggles as Dads. He printed them on nice card stock too!

We’re also starting to play with the idea of making a custom Keyforge playmat. This is a very early rough layout design, we’re going to change around the bottom right space and do some tests.

End of the night I had gone 3-1. Pretty good! Feel like I’m getting better, especially with my new ROBOT technique. When in doubt PLAY THE ROBOT and When in doubt REAP!

Cards in comic: Bait and Switch The Sting

Malcolm needs one more key to win. So Felipe plays the sting. Next turn all of Malcolm’s amber spent on his key goes to Felipe. Felipe has like 18 amber. Malcolm then uses Bait and Switch to steal back 9!

Hey guys. It’s been 3 years since a Wizards of Montreal comic! A lot has happened since then. I’m married. I had a kid too! I even have a DOG!? And I stopped playing Magic the Gathering. Magic broke my heart. But hey guess what, Keyforge, a new competitive card game from the creator of Magic (Richard Garfield) just came out! I’m definitely in the honeymoon period. Let’s see if this ends in further heartbreak.

You might have also noticed I’ve renamed the comic / site! It’s now Montreal Wizard (instead of Wizards of Montreal). This is MAINLY due to me being lazy and letting my old domain expire. Think of this as a fresh start.

More Keyforge comics coming! Including a HOW TO PLAY and some TOURNAMENT ACTION!

The Grand Emperor Royale

The Grand Emperor Royale is a drawing / tournament game I came up with to pass the time. Here are the current rules:

GRAND EMPEROR ROYALE SYSTEM v.1 by Simon Cottee

1. Come up with 12 silly character names and name your CONFERENCE / DIVISION. The Conference/Division name is the place your warriors come from and unique to your tournaments.

2. These names are seeded randomly into a bracket tournament system. I use this website.

3. A POWER LEVEL (PL) is generated for each character  PL = 40+2d10 Roll two 10 sided dice and add those to 40

4. Draw a single image of each character matchup on seperate page

5. ATTACK / DEFEND ROUND These rolls use a d100. Two 10 sided dice, one designated as 10's and the other 1's.

Highest PL character attacks first.

To make a successful attack roll UNDER characters PL level.

IF attack is successful Defender now must roll UNDER their PL level to defend attack.

After successfully defending the defender now makes their attack and so on and so forth.

Failed attacks require no defence roll.

FIRST successful hit on a defender WINS the match and advances.

For the first attack of the match Defender gets a +20 PL on their defense roll. This attempts to balances the starting attacker's advantage

6. BATTLE MODIFIERS (These rolls activate permanent character PL changes)

01   Critical Success = +10 PL

100 Critical Failure    = -10 PL

Double Evens           = +2 PL (ie: 88)

Double Odds            = -2 PL (ie: 77)

Same roll as Attacker on Defense = Instant Defender Win

Rolling 66 = Roll a 1d10, if 6 change PL to 66 and be marked by SATAN

7. Track results and PL changes of each match on the tournament sheet.

8. Move on to the next bracket. Draw new match ups. HOUSE RULE: Never use old art, always redraw characters and never draw them the same way.

9. Keep going until a GRAND EMPEROR IS DECLARED! Grand Emperor gets a +10 PL winning bonus

10. Draw the Grand Emperor in their new place of power and pat yourself on the back for drawing 23 characters!!!

11. You can then battle other peoples Grand Emperor's, using a best out of 3 system. This can work out who is the CHOSEN ONE.

These rules are just what I have been using. They were also modified and balanced throughout my competition. If you plan on running your own feel free to adapt, change them to whatever works. Also, using less than 12 competitors might make the drawing task less intimidating.

Can you even believe it!? The Electric Williams SMASHES N30N Chomsky, after smashing N30N DR3@M5!? And Huge Sue the new favourite stomps on a crab! Onto the semi finals! Oh my GRAWDS! Huge sue sits on a Bee and a computer man killed a cursed wizard!? THE FINALS ARE SET. Huge Sue the statistical favourite VS The Electric Williams digi D3M0N! drum roll AND WE HAVE OUR FIRST EVER GRAND EMPEROR! Who would have thought it, The Electric Williams. Huge Sue even rolled a critical failure on that final bout. How embarrasing. Let's all bow down uncomfortably to our new EMPEROR! So there you go. What a big dumb event it was. Hope you all had fun. Remember, believe in urselves. xoxox

Magicolm Suthercard just can’t stop making card reviews. It’s like he has a fever or something. All he does is sit on the floor screaming about how anything over 2 mana is too expensive. You are probably starting to get a pretty good idea on what it feels like to play him in Magic.
