im supposed to be normal over the grandson of a man who started a rebellion against a corrupt monarch and was killed in the streets for it who grew up hiding who he was since his alcoholic father also was killed for using his grandfather's name, fleeing to the sea and spending most of his life as a sailor running from his homeland, then getting hired for a mercenary job by a young prince (thane) and finds somebody he deems worthy of following and protecting, someone who could make a change in the world. he followed an honest man who invented a new position in his court to keep you around - a warrior, advisor, and poet. but war comes and you start to see a bloodthirst in his eyes, and he starts killing without thought, he grabs for the power he can get, and he's willing to sacrifice a lot to advance in the world. he says that you don't understand but he's doing everything to keep you by his side. you will be by my side as i conquer. of course you never told him the story of your grandfather, you're still terrified of meeting the same fate as your father and grandfather, but you can't stand by him anymore and betray the memory of your grandfather. so you tell him as you leave him, how you watched your dad be burned for keeping your family name, how you've run your entire life from this, you tell him your secret as you leave him and you leave your life in his hands to ruin if he wants to. you leave your position, you leave him your weapons, and you leave him your life. five years pass and your body aches. no one has come after you and you haven't even heard a whisper of your family name. and then you finally meet him again in the caves under the battlefield that would finally end the war. he's replaced you. the position he invented to keep you here he's given to a girl who so clearly revere him, but the moment he sees you life reverts back to five, six years ago. he listens to her council but all she wants is his attention. and then all his attention is focused onto you but all you ever wished was for him to listen to your council. to really listen to you. he still wants you, he still wants you back with him (he won't say it, but he wants you. he won't say it, but he still has the dagger you dropped the day you left him. he won't say it, but when you left he almost used it to cut himself up in distress), but his bloodthirst hasn't gone away, it has only grown. everyone sees it. the girl sees it too and she feeds it. you've spent the years trying to patch up the carnage his bloodlust caused. the monarchs have started a war (you helped. damn you, you helped) and somebody needs to be kind. warriors without kindness are tyrants and you have been haunted by tyrants your entire life, your entire bloodline. but do you still want him?

I have so many thoughts on that last ravening war adventuring party but I gotta get this one out:

one of the things I knew that got confirmed in this last AP was that it was near impossible that lou or zac would ever see the deli & colin PC relationship through a queer lens in the way a lot of us did. and I need to be extremely clear there are no digs or negative connotation towards either of them with that btw.

(to me colin/deli was a super casual and fun ship and nothing I got torn up about with them not being ~*~canon~* and imo, who says they’re not? it was left SO open ended for them to come together again in the future so)

but I knew it would be an extreme shot in the dark to see a PC romance there, which is so funny because the queer entanglement, the bitter exes, the king and lionheart tropes… it was ALL there and it was LOUD

but it’s intriguing when there can be such chemistry that comes across to fans while the show is airing but gets missed entirely during the actual filming of scenes to the point where in multiple APs colin/deli was played off as the buddy-buddy drama or the comedy duo when for a lot of us… we saw this really rich, captivating tension between them to sink our teeth into??? (lbr it’s likely because it was queer and queer stories tend to escape the realm of possibility when it’s not queer-majority tables but ANYWAY)

ALL THIS TO SAY I remember saying from one of the first eps of ravwar that lou and zac would not realize it AT ALL but that their amazing, amazing talent plus a strong friendship irl makes their PC interactions pop off the screen SO MUCH and colin/deli felt like the natural product of this great ability to play off each other, so I will say this: if lou and zac ever do decide to play a PC romance with their characters, they would do a REALLY insanely good job of it that is ALL I’M SAYING ARE YOU GUYS LISTENING

love when the not-quite-exes with the unlabeled relationship see each other again after 5 years after a falling out and then proceed to act entirely normal about it with absolutely no unresolved feelings or tension (aka every colindeli scene of the last ep that made me stupidly feral)

shoutout to zac oyama for saying ‘that’s not the kind of leader I want to be with’ instead of follow or fight with that really made the breakup of it all much more real

ik we all like the psychosexual shit going on with karna deli and colin but truly if my boyfriend invented a position in his court so he could keep me with him and then we break up and five years later i find out he's appointed someone else for that court position? I. would. be. CRUSHED.

Brennan's "I don't know, man" and "I have never broken Zac like this" and then Zac/Gorgug back-diving out of the nest is so EXTREMELY reminiscent of their dynamic in The Ravening War. Particularly when Brennan was like "Zac did not say one line that I did not fully break and laugh at" and then, separately, Zac/Colin's freefall into the poison after Brennan's infamous "For the first time in his life, Raphaniel understands sexual arousal."

I hope that all the Rat Grindrs survive the final battle, are declared to be Porterand Jace's victims, and get off scott free. I want them to have to attend Senior Year. I want Kipperlilly to have to walk past Kristen's latest ridiculous school initiative that's probably some unhelpful meme bullshit. I want Oisin to have English class with the guy who killed his grandma.
