the contrast of sadie feeling strong in her emotions and drew feeling weak in them OH MY GOOOOD

i think the thing about drew (and by extension tanakane) is that she's a very emotional person. she feels everything, so much. sure, she can be calculating and manipulative, but mainly, she's just driven by whatever emotion is behind the wheel in the moment. that's probably the biggest reason why she took silena's betrayal seemingly so much harder than anyone we get to see (besides clarisse, i'd say, but we hardly ever see her after tlo), even a solid half year after it had happened. but the thing is, sadie is like that too. she's a very emotional person, contrasted by carter being much more outwardly "logical" (though tkc proves time and time again that sadie isn't stupid). but sadie, despite everything, seems much better-adjusted. and to me, that's one of the layers of their (potential) relationship. drew sees in sadie how emotional she is, and how much, despite everything, she loves life. she's so emotional, and makes a point of loving everything that she's experiencing and the world around her. coz for drew, it's always been something to suppress, to get rid of because it's a sign of weakness. but when watching sadie just be, it blows her mind just how... wildly different it is for her.

i think they talked about this precisely 😭 the more god complex insane they went the harder it would've been to let go of that power and that would've continued the cycle thousands of magicians over the years have done. that being said they could've done SO MANY MORE BATSHIT INSANE THINGS

i think the kane siblings should have been allowed to go more god complex insane while/because of hosting horus and isis. as a treat

just think about it. sharing a body with a god? all that power? it would make you feel like you life before was just a dream and now you're finally awake. i'm just saying, even a person who tries to be good would have a hard time adjusting to that sort of power being gone

the first part where anubis is stuck in the duat and doesn't know how much time passes and sadie and carter are the first humans he meets is literally canon and the fact that barely anyone understands that is the center of all of the problems surrounding walt/anubis x sadie. read the books people pls

How I wish Rick had written Anubis/Kind of AU ramblings??

This is all just for fun, and how I would've liked to see Anubis written in TKC. I still love him in canon <3 (also any incorrect stuff you see if bc i havent reread TKC in a minute)

For one, I would love to see him with vitiligo! I saw a post a small while ago that had a Anubis redesign with gold skin peaking through (go check it out its by @bansheeoftheforest), and it solidified for me how cool it would look!

Onto the actual writing, I have a very specific vision of Anubis as a very young god when the others were imprisoned by the House of Life, and him remaining alone in the Duat waiting for Osiris to return and take his rightful place. He doesn't leave because he's doing what he's supposed to: guarding the Hall of Judgement until Osiris returns. And well. He doesn't really return for a long time.

So I envisioned a kind of Lotus Hotel situation: The Duat messed up his perception of time so much that he genuinely doesn't realise how long its been. At most, he thinks its been about a month or so. He has no idea that over 1000 years have gone by. He hasn't left the Duat since the others were imprisoned, and thats exactly why the magicians of the House of Life weren't able to imprison him.

When Sadie and Carter come looking for the Feather of Truth, they're literally the first human interaction he's had in centuries. He doesn't recognise their clothes or their accents, or the way they speak at all. When they inform him that yes, several centuries have gone past, he's horrified.

Anyways I just really want to explore how different gods mature (i find it so interesting: Athena is "born" as a fully fledged adult god, meanwhile Hermes is born as an infant, though definitely not a normal one), as well as what it would be like for a person (god or mortal) to suddenly find themselves centuries into the future without even realizing it (this totally hasn't been inspired by "Lethe" by Eridans on ao3 hahaha. Go read it tho its amazing :D)

Also I love young gods. Gods who haven't fully carved their role in the world and in their pantheons. IDk.

ALSO: Emo Anubis due to one of his first interactions with the new century being Sadie (who is DEFINITELY an alt teen). Also idk emo teens.

ALSO (take a shot every time I say "also"), DISTINCTIONS BETWEEN OSIRIS AND JULIUS! Julius is Sadie and Carter's dad, Osiris is Anubis' father figure: THEY ARE NOT THE SAME :3 (to me at least).

One is a god, one is the god's dead host.

i do love this and can't wait for the death squad to collect but also i need them to all meet and annabeth already knows them all personally and dabs them up and everyone just stares at her weirdly

she sees sadie and is like "omg girl what's up, is that the death boyfriend that you told me about?" and walt just stares at her weirdly

also, i physically need everyone's reactions to jack and how he can talk

Is Rick ever going to come back to that bit in TOA where he implied that Chiron was meeting with folks from the other pantheons about a potential threat?

Because if we do get an avengers style crossover I really need there to be a scene where Nico walks into the room and is like, "why is there so much death here. The Norse brought a couple of dead guys and the Egyptians brought actual death, but he's hiding inside that 16-year-old."

these types of people are the reason the kane chronicles fandom sucks

so, I have a genuine question for americans:

I got in a “argument” with a person on the clock app bc she state the Saide Kane was black, and me as a Brazilian, viewed her as white

that’s Sadie’s description according to the books:

She has fair skin, deep blue eyes, a mischievous, lopsided smile, and caramel hair that she usually has bright colored streaks in

(her hair is also said to be straight, it could by design and not genetics, but the books never touch on that topic, so it is open to interpretation. and I don’t remember any other instance where other features are mentioned, like her nose or something similar)

and that’s Carter’s:

Carter is an African American teenager. He used to have short, curly brown hair, but it grew out messily as the series progressed, and brown eyes.

you see, here in Brazil we did not had and apartheid nor laws against interacial marriages, as well as having big immigratory groups from all over the world: were the country with the biggest population of Japanese, Italian and Lebanese people outside of their homeland

and as such, we view race differently from the way the US does, using the Kane siblings as an example: the siblings have a white mother and a black father, which I know would make them “mixed” in American views, but here in Brazil we would see the siblings as black (Carter) and white (Sadie), since that’s their phenotypes and that’s what will dictated how you’ll be perceived/treated in society

But what tricked me was when this person said that even with a white mom and having “white passability” Sadie was still black, not mixed or white

And my question is: how?

I would understand saying she’s mixed, since she does come from different ethnic backgrounds, but I can’t understand how a girl who’s described as white, to the point that people do not think her and her brother and father are related, and was raise by their white grandparents for the sole reason that’s she’s white (as far as i remember, the grandparents hated their father, and after the death of their mother decided to only keep and raise Sadie bc she looked like their daughter) to be viewed as solely black

headcanons from The Kane Chronicles because I miss them Rick please I need a new book

• Carter is definitely Horus' favorite of all time. Not only is he his host, but Carter is also extremely intelligent and capable in his role as pharaoh, as well as a person with a good heart, and Horus are so proud (he will never admite it tho)

• Bast always brings small meals to the Kanes during missions. Different from other heroes who go through various basic difficulties saving the world, Sadie and Carter always have a goddess who loves them very much, bringing them food or finding a nearby hotel to rest.

• Bes will definitely randomly show up at Nomo and make dinner. Nobody questions. He's good at that

• Sadie creates a lot of playlists, she has at least one for everyone she loves. Carter has two, but she keeps one private. Anubis and Walt's keeps changing because she can't decide on their vibe, and Bastet's is updated every day. She used to have a romantic playlist about Anubis, now they listen it like a old joke

• Isis is attached to her children, so whenever possible she is checking on Anubis and Horus as if they were still little children. Without realizing it, she started checking up on Carter and Sadie frequently as well.

• Felix likes to do Jaz's hair. He's terrible at it but she lets him anyway and always shows off his hairstyles

• Cleo is a source of pride for Thoth. He talks about her at pantheon meetings and always expresses excitement over the little discoveries she makes. (Thoth is considered a very attentive god to mortals, I can't imagine him ignoring a follower)

• Anubis and Walt have a very strong bond, and even if the curse didn't link them they would hardly be separated. Walt showed him a lot of the mortal world, Anubis gave him entire lessons on the historical periods that Walt likes. They play videogames e go to dinner out casually. Anubis met Walt's mother once, she's scary.

• Bastet and Anubis are the type of duo that fight over everything non-stop, but they will be together through anything. She is the only one who speaks ill of him, he is the only one who push out all her bottons. It's not romantic or anything, it's just their dynamic at that point. She will totally lay on top of him in their animal forms out of pure disrespect

• Osiris is the type of father who sends strange good morning messages with videos of flowers, always has a joke on the tip of his tongue and wears themed coats at family parties. Sadie adores him

• Seth affectionately called Anubis his son ONCE and the entire pantheon was in shock for years.

• Alyssa adores Sadie, and began to view her with great admiration. She once tried to dye her hair the shade of pink she always wanted, but it didn't turn out very well.. Sadie helped her with that and they have had matching highlights in their hair ever since.

• Julian can AND WILL turn the mansion inside out. He's forbidden from being in charge but somehow always ends up taking charge of things when Carter and Sadie go out.

• Anubis is like a gothic older brother and guide for the younger ones. They go to him for advice on everything from the simplest to the most personal. As a guiding and protective god, as well as a comforter of mourners, he always listens and does the impossible to help but then act like it's no big deal and disappear for a week

• keeping in this point, he has a habit of disappearing during conversations. If Anubis gets tired of the conversation, or the person, he simply turns his back and leaves. He has done this many times with Sadie and sometimes she almost hits him with a hairbrush. He has been irritating Shu with this habit for millennia.

something i've been thinking about the kane chronicles adaptation is that if after pjotv's success disney took tkc too and adapted it into a series as well, it'd be so cool to have one or two introduction episodes, where all of the things from the beginning of the book happen and where they set the scenes about what's gonna happen in the next five days, and then have an episode dedicated to each of the demon days, like "episode 3: osiris' demon day" or smth like that for all 5 days, it'd be sooo cool

bonus points if in the end as a bonus scene, like the one with turning gabe into stone, we get how the two new trainees (walt and jaz) join the 21st nome, i personally would EAT THAT UP

i've said it before and i'll say it again, the funniest difference between the chb/camp jupiter and the house of life is how they act about the gods and the ancients lands.

greeks/romans? oh the gods need to be respected. the egyptian magicians? yeah we won't hesitate to punch the gods in the face. going to greece and rome is like the biggest absolute nope for the greek and roman demigods meanwhile the magicians are like "i am once again in egypt against my will. i never want to see egypt again." relics are the same deal. it's just so funny.
