I found this thread re: porn, consent, sexuality, and erotica writing interesting, so I’m sharing it here with the author’s permission. It’s acerbic and rather short, but it’s still food for thought; also, not to toot my own horn, but I’m including a response I wrote to the thread to add to the discussion. This is only the tip of an iceberg of possible discussion, but I wanted to put it up here with captions in part for my own reference.

“Kneel.”

Aden went to the floor at Kristoffer’s feet, seated between his knees. Kristoffer sat at the foot of the bed and held the collar with one hand. The other brushed sweetly through Aden’s hair before cupping the back of his neck.

“Do you want to wear the collar?”

Aden nodded, but said nothing. He held onto Kristoffer’s knees to brace himself there. Otherwise he felt he could slip away, or simply drift. Kristoffer would make sure it didn’t happen. Kristoffer was like bedrock.

“You asked me why I want to be with you. There’s a part of me that finds the question offensive. A rather jealous part of me, I suppose, but I know it isn’t your fault. You’ve never been shown how valuable you are.”

Kristoffer unlatched the collar. Aden bared his throat.

“I’m not valuable.”

“But you are to me.” Kristoffer drew the collar tight to Aden’s neck, fitting it in place with the silver buckle. “You’re like a wild thing. You can’t be caught, only persuaded to stay. Just a friendly reminder

I know there’s a lot of really heavy and intense things on Tumblr that reflect a fantasy world of BDSM. There’s a lot of people out there that will tell you that you have to obey without question. That you have to endure somebody treating you like shit because you’re a submissive. That you have to be an object.

I want to remind you that that isn’t true. Most of the captions written on Tumblr would never be said in real life. I guarantee you that these people don’t have the balls to walk up to somebody and say that to them out of the blue. They thrive off of anonymity. It allows them to forget their Humanity.

Trust me, I understand there’s a time and a place for humiliation and degradation. But no human being deserves to be treated like that 24/7. We are social creatures. Our emotional and mental health needs affirmation at times.

Basically I’m trying to remind you that submission is a gift. To those of you that are new, you don’t have to put up with being treated poorly simply because somebody tells you that’s the way it is. It isn’t that way.

People can dismiss me. They can call me overly romantic. But here’s the thing about being a dominant, you have to in some form care about the other person. Otherwise you’re just a fraud.
