Goat is a symbol and tradition for Yule and Christmas, not only in Northern Europe, similar rituals can be also found in much of the Balkans, the custom is generally thought to be related to the Thracian Dionysos cult in the wider area of Thracia. Winter Solstice always symbolising the death and ressurection of the year cycle or Sun-God. Ignatul and Saturnalia, other customs held on Winter’s Solstice, celebrate the return of the light. Ignatul, a Romanian tradition, is one of the most important solar celebration of the year. In almost all mythologies, fire is the projection of the Sun on the Earth, and the animals slaughtered during the solar celebrations are the zoomorphic embodiments. In this day, is believed that all people must see blood, people smear with blood their faces to be healthy, ruddy and protected from the evil eye all year. Probably this tradition came from the Roman branch, the custom is attested during Saturnalia, festive time devoted to Saturn, the god of crops. The pig was considered the embodiment of this deity. The pig slaughtering on this day is, according to the traditional belief, a symbol of the deity who dies and is resurrected.
