Hey there! My name is Morteraphan, I'm a concept artist and illustrator. I'm in love with original worlds, magic, mysteries and different characters! In my free time I work on my original projects. Important note: I draw both anthro/human art, and sometimes I draw cute things, but both of my settings contain dark macabre themes. I use Procreate and standart brushes, please don't copy/edit my artworks. NO AI/NFT shit in any way.Blog for OCs • Patreon • Twitter • DeviantArt • FurAffinity • Instagram • Ko-fi • Prints • RedBubble

I should also add that when I was studying for the first three years I HATED drawing flowers and plant ornaments. I didn't like it at all. I thought it was incredibly boring and a waste of my precious time, I was more interested in drawing fantasy and animals, and I had to draw stupid flowers. To be fair, I was only 17-18 years old then, I was literally the youngest student who entered this institute and I just had a really hard time and didn't have the skills for many things (I was able to get into a state-funded place only because there was a small competition for this specialty, only two people per place or something like that). So I realized how beautiful and interesting many things are only after several years.
idk if you’ve been asked this/answered this before- but how do you go about creating the intricate patterns in your work! That be on the clothes, subjects, and mostly the backgrounds. Every time I see your work I’m just so enamored by the patter work and I’m so curious what your creative process is for it :)
Hey there and thank you! I think my studying as a specialist in artistic ceramics played a big role here. We studied a LOT of ornaments from different eras and cultures, learned to create our own. For example, in the first year we had an assignment to make a ceramic vessel based on a fruit or vegetable. We could choose any, I chose an orange. At this point we were taught - go buy an orange, cut it, draw what it looks like, look at the pattern of the fibers, look at the texture of the peel, etc. Next… in which countries does an orange grow? How was it depicted in other cultures? Go to the library, get a few books and make sketches. After that - combine all the knowledge gained and you will get something new.
When I was studying, I also drew digital art for myself, so of course all the training also affected my personal art. Now I draw ornaments automatically, for me it’s like doodling and sometimes I don’t even really think about how to make certain elements, they just happen (not counting the moments when I put a certain meaning into these details).

I am currently learning digital art and I love your style, is it ok to use your art as reference to study drawing? I don't want to copy you, just better understand this way of artwork
I usually ask not to use my art as a reference because in the past when I gave permission it still resulted in direct copying and people then had trouble coming to their own direction (and also copied all the mistakes I make). I would advise you to use traditional masters as references + you can find a lot of tutorials in the public domain now! Thanks for understanding!

Although I enjoyed our trip, I'm so happy to be back home and I missed it so much. Feels like I'm getting too old (or just chronically tired) for active recreation and travel 😴
