A scary step!

It was my first time using a bookbinding handsaw (after a quick try on a draft notebook)

It turned out well and deep enough to reach the inner page of each signature. We'll see how it turns out tomorrow for the sewing part!

My friends are often surprised when I say I buy beeswax for bookbinding, but it's super useful! 📚🍯

It's untangled the thread and avoid humidity to go through the thread, inside the pages.

It can also be used to protect decorated paper for the covers 🐝

Also, the beeswax candle stick smells so good. I want to take a bite so much

Ficbinding: Thirty-Three Lashes by Winglesss

This was my ficbinding project for the 2022 Renegade Bindery Exchange. The fic has a lot of horror elements, both regarding Lan Wangji's curse and with the modern casefic portion of the fic, and I decided to lean into them for the book design (possibly because I started this project in October).

The cover is made with layered paper cutouts (cut by sawing with the edge of a knife, to get a rougher look) in three different textured papers. The endpapers are the same red paper I used on the cover, with suminagashi marbling and backed with black. I used black leather for the endbands and dark red leather for the spine.
