unfortunately, due to budget cuts, the pokémon assigning quiz has been canceled. instead, you must spin THE WHEEL, assigning you a random, unevolved, non-legendary and non-mythical pokémon. you must now go on some sort of world-saving adventure as this pokémon. good luck!

tell me in the tags what you rolled, and how you feel about it - for bonus points, you can spin the wheel again for (or just take your pick of) a pokémon to be your partner.

bonus rules:

you're not shiny unless the wheel tells you you're shiny

take your pick of regional forms and evolutions (for example, if you roll vulpix, it's up to you whether that means normal or alolan vulpix)

does anyone know if i can like block sites from appearing in my google images searches??? i keep getting those awful ai generated things with a hand coming out of a man's neck and just straight up not what i was looking for, because this was in a search for "curly hair in medieval paintings". it happens every time i search for anything vaguely art-reference-like and it's so fucking annoying and it clutters my search results so much. i don't wanna add specific commands to the query every time too, what i need is like a browser extension or something

No one will admit that they were wrong if you treat being wrong like its an eternal indictment against them with no chance for rehabilitation

This is something I and other tabletop bloggers like thydungeongal have said repeatedly in the past, but I think it bears repeating.

If you don't like WotC due to the recent scandals they've been involved in (such as the OGL thing and sending the Pinkertons to someone's house) and you are serious about disrupting the economic and cultural stranglehold they have over the entire tabletop hobby, pirating D&D products is infinitely less important than exploring, discussing and platforming games and creators outside of the D&D 5e ecosystem.

A person who pirates every single D&D product but continues to exclusively play, discuss, talk, and blog about Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition is not doing as much as someone who religiously pays for every D&D product but also gives some of their precious time and attention to games that aren't D&D, especially if they have any sort of platform or audience.

Apparently there’s a new Ao Oni game and I am a fucking WIMP /positive

It sets the tone right off the bat and as a game designer I am impressed by how it just… drops ya in. I’ve barely played much of the first level and I am tense. I mean, I’m cowardly in horror games like these in general but the tension is good.

It just starts you off already hiding. You have not seen the threat, but the character is try to calm her breathing, implying that the character already knows the threat… but you don’t.

There is not a lot of ambience. Barely any— other than the player’s nervous breathing. It is not the scared hyperventilating breathing. It is the calm, nervous, expecting-something-around-the-corner breathing. It is not comforting to listen to, instead you get to feel the anxiety with the character in real time.

The first level has a lot of dark corridors. You cannot see down them very well, and they are very long corridors— and for a fast chase monster enemy, that is horrifying.

And the enemy itself is actually a little difficult to see due to its purple skin blending it in with the shadows. It is still noticeable, but it adds in the dread of “I see something in the dark.”

If you are spotted by the Oni and hide in one of the lockers peppered around the level, it does a great job to make you feel like you are not safe. The Oni leans in front of the locker, and you can see it’s shadow moving trying to peer through the grates to see if you are there. It’s a long daunting moment, but eventually it may leave, and the whispers go with it.

Also you cannot effectively pause the game. Ig if you want to you can suspend it to the switch menu or whatever system you are playing it on. Or you could hide in the locker. As far as I know, if it hasn’t seen you, it should be safe to linger in there. You. Alone in the dark. With that anxious, too-knowing breathing.

And I am to complete puzzles to move on, while having a need to watch my back at every turn.

I have only seen play through a of the og Ao Oni (which is also on sale on the switch e shop, though I think you can also get it for free somewhere else). Apparently the one on the switch has a new story mode and other game modes too. But I’m sure the og-oh was horrifying at the time but I never thought much of it. It didn’t hit. It was just smth silly. But the new Ao Oni … hits. It feels like a claustrophobic slender adjacent game and it’s good. I’ve barely played much of it and I am already praising it on a level design perspective.
