Dolly's Italian Ice's is true italian ice. you got the father and son in this cold dark cave box serving ices.. there's no tip jar. they don't give a shit... they just want to give you some delicious frozen concoction.
best place to cool off after a day at Fort Tilden...hit Flatbush ave and make a sharp right on Avenue U....its a few blocks down.... man... they have a cannoli flavored ice, and the pistachio is killing too...props to tim dahl for introducing me to it...he is the king of south brooklyn

i've been wearing these shoes all summer... pretty perfect...looks like a chuck taylor and feels like a sandal... they don't have the stickyness of rubber shoes and you can take them to the beach or to your formal dinner party... pretty hip...

ok! its true culture when you get into the niche speciality zone, and this store for sure does! darren ho synth man of 'drip house' has doubled it up nicely with me on keys in a few Colin L Orchestra gigs and we both share the love of the juno 1 synth...but he stepped up and is offering the public a rare opportunity to try and play modular synth gear in person rather than sniff and snarl via the web and audio samples...go to the shop at 416 lorimer st...check the website for super informative action...

i came across this gem....daniel carter reedsman finest rippin hard with a double drummer pulse! fuck yeah....that's the push I want to hear! its a tribute to deeply missed trumpeter raphe malik'...who was one of the deepest dudes around...i would hear raphe when he came thru town from time to time in the late 90s and early 2000's before he passed from cancer a few years ago..
here's a link to one of my favorite records of his:

Matthew Silver is my friend. We have had awesome odd encounters since 2004 and its a pleasure to know him.. . He has worked tirelessly on the virtue of public performance and direct interaction with the PEOPLE in a manner that is fun and exuberant and socially challenging. He keeps it DEEP>> he performs on Wednesday night at Splattered Columns...

DASHAN CORAM>>>1981 to 2012.RIP...I Love This Song
I love this song 'Put the Cookie Down' from Huggabroomstick's 2004 album. I think i must have first met Dashan in 2002 or 2003 both at Fort Awesome and at the Side Walk Cafe...Where lot's of the anti folk crew were in the pocket with more traditional singer songwriter material, Dashan was someone who wanted to see danger and energy on stage, both in performance, song writing and sonic vision..Huggabroomstick were so cool... i remember seeing them play this song in the basement at Fort Awesome and was instantly hooked...the repetitive monolithic message 'put the cookie down' repeated over and over with a raw 60's style riff and fuzz bass...this band was cool...they still are...Dashan left the band i think a few years ago.... but anyway...Dashan was a link to a variety of nyc music scene's...a compilation he produced in 2003 or 04' was a definitive scene document...i recorded a track at his house, and it was one of the first times i felt like someone 'gave a shit' about my action.... he knew how to record with his digital 16 track unit and he would invite his friends over to do it...he always said his 'dream band' was one that had the full on rock n roll hooks and then free caterwaul assault on the other side...all 360' degrees of music in one sound....
i dont have much more to say, except the world lost a very special individual dedicated to music and art and friends and passion....and i am truly saddened by this unexpected and tragic death...
we will all miss him.
WE all love you Dashan....

So I stopped by Main Drag Music yesterday to do some casual browsing and wow! did they have a unit that was quite a site...the Moog Modular System 2 was one of the first commercially sold units available for synth action coming out of the Moog lab!.... the book 'Analog Day's written by T. J Pinch, and Frank Trocco is a fantastic book detailing the early wild west days of Robert Moog and Don Buchla and their various contemporaries...At the Monterey Pop fest in 1967, in order to promote the new instrument, the sales team at Moog just showed up, pitched a tent and plugged the system in...tripping rock n roll stars looking for their 'new sound' flush with cash had no problem dropping the 15k asking price for one of these units...i guess that investment would have paid off as the asking price on this bad boy for sale at Main Drag is 40K!!!!! holy cow... im sure someone will buy it ...just don't spill any milk on it!
here's a link to the book 'Analog Day's -- Definitely recommended

the 188/THREE were david nuss on drums, matt heyner on upright bass and sabir mateen on various wind instruments....back at this time or maybe even a few years before the 3 of them were roomates on the lower east side....naturally they were a band...roomates always know each other's habits best.... who is eating too much pasta, why is their no soap? who is the best newscaster on channel 11 etc...these guys could answer each other with some deep musical freedom
