i wish people would think about what they're saying - or what they sound like they're saying - when they dismiss chris/josh as a ship because they're "bros."

to be clear, this isn't about whether someone feels or doesn't feel romantic chemistry. that's just personal preference, which is obviously individual and subjective.

but when people explain it by saying something to the effect of "well they're just bros" - no further comment - it's like, what...what do you mean by that? because that sort of sounds like "well they're stereotypically masculine guys who don't tick any stereotypically queer boxes in my mind, ergo this ship doesn't sail." maybe just interrogate why this is so clear-cut to you, because a dude-bro-man vibe does not a straight man make.

queer ships in until dawn are so crucial to me. as much as i love the source media, it has a very...heterosexual vibe, to the degree that a lot of fans treat josh/sam as canon, because the other pairings in this game are strictly m/f, and the game states they're close. so there must be romantic feelings, right?

but like. this is what makes the m/m and f/f ships hit extra hard for me. this is a group that divides pretty neatly into m/f pairs and, given the time period they grew up in, they'd likely be drowning in comphet. as a queer person (especially one who grew up in that same time period), it's so validating to depict them seeing the person society dictates they should be romantically interested in, the Obvious Choice - and then not feeling that romantic interest, finding it somewhere they didn't expect.

jess and em realizing that, actually, neither of them wants to be with mike! and that in hindsight, their intense negative reactions to each other's boyfriends had more to do with their feelings for each other than the boys themselves.

chris and ash as super close friends who commiserate over the fact that everyone assumes they are or should be together, simply because ash is into guys and chris is into girls (and guys). they love each other, one hundred percent, but not like that.

gay josh and lesbian sam discovering themselves side by side, confiding in each other before they open up to anyone else. this is their connection.

many other possibilities, but like, THIS IS THE JUICE!!!! until dawn characters i will never stop queering you!!!!

They exchanged a brief look, Matt and Mike, Mike and Matt, but when they narrowed their eyes and turned to him, Chris explained his presence away before they could even try to get the question out: "And I'm here to make everyone look more masculine in comparison!"
