IMPORTANT. i’ve been mulling it over for a few weeks now, and i think i’ve decided that i am going to move maurice over onto my multimuse. i find it really hard to keep this blog active when it’s on a separate account, and so it’s easier for me to continue to write maurice if he’s on the multi instead.

i have several drafts, and i’ll be keeping about half of them —- which those will be i haven’t yet decided, but i’ll try and keep at least one draft from everyone ( if we have multiple threads going, however, i won’t be keeping those ) and i will be checking over here periodically for other replies, though feel free to tag my multi in any replies as well. this account will stick around for storage & in case i ever decide to move maurice back here.

the idealism and the brutality that ran through boyhood had joined at last, and twined into love. no one might want such love, but he could not feel ashamed of it, because it was ‘ he, ’ neither body or soul, nor body and soul, but ‘ he ’ working through both. he still suffered, yet a sense of triumph had come elsewhere. pain had shown him a niche behind the world’s judgments, whither he could withdraw.

        HAS HE BEEN RUSHING? maurice seems to stop altogether —- jacket tugged unevenly over narrow shoulders and bag taunt against his chest. his heels aren’t fully in his shoes, and yet he’d already been reaching for the door handle. and most tellingly, perhaps, is how cheeks burn red from exertion and eagerness.

        maybe he has been a little quick to get out the door, but if only ippolit knew the reason! an embarrassed expression settles shyly over him as hand falls away from the handle and shoulders straighten in some useless attempt at dignity. unexpected is the rush that his secret —- the boy he’d met days ago, with whom he has already fallen in love —- brings him, and how he wants to feel it again! the simple mention that he might be there is enough to make maurice privately nervous and excitable.

        and he must soon bury it! fully well he knows that his beloved will tease him mercilessly if maurice is unable to maintain some modicum of apathy. he’ll never hear the end of it!

        “ i only want to get there soon. ” the conspiratorial grin on his face does not lend itself to concealing what he wants to say. hands fold before him, and after checking over his shoulder ( as though there might be some sudden and unexpected guest in his own apartment ) leans toward ippolit. “ if i’m being honest, i’m meeting someone there. ”

         LOVE IS HARDLY BURDENSOME. eyebrows furrow in confusion and curiosity as maurice turns in inquiry to his friend —- not out of any genuine interest in her affections, but because there seems a sadness in her that he cannot ignore. his heart has always been a pesky creature, doting endlessly on friends and lovers, no matter how unwanted his vile affections. he cannot help the rush of life in his empty soul when it is overtaken by care.

         and moreover ( and much more importantly, for that matter ) if there is weight in love —- if it is met with difficulty and dread —- is it even worthwhile? maurice is not insensitive, but there is a slowness to his understanding, and he needs time to think before he might fully comprehend the depth any emotion. what he knows now ( and this is very little ) is that he is in love —- and if there were any negativity in it, aside from those troubled first days of discovery, he surely would not be able to call it love so easily.

         in this respect, he is experienced : he has felt love fall apart, and knows that its weight will destroy it. and he’s much happier, to be with someone else now. someone who does not trouble him any more.

         “ that doesn’t sound pleasant. ” a fine observation —- one only need speak a few moments with maurice to understand those accusations of daftness pressed to him. he leans forward slightly, attempting through practiced action to express the care that is dreadfully, frustratingly absent in his tone. “ what do you mean by it? is everything alright? ”
