Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog - 2008
Now, I want to preface this by saying the movie was written amidst the writer's strike. So the writing isn't all that good. But I really think this movie is worthwhile. Starring Neil Patrick Harris and Felicia Day, this movie/musical parody of superheroes is 42 minutes of a darn-well good time.
In this film, NPH plays the evil/inept Dr. Horrible. He has a desire to both get into the Evil League of Evil and win the heart of a girl named Penny. This musical focuses on his trials and tribulations of love and war, against his arch-nemesis, the superhero Captain Hammer.
If you want something that has a nice soundtrack, fun actors, mildly bad writing, and is a good short film to pass the time. Well, here you are.
This film is easily accessible online, and weirdly enough I saw two copies of it at a Goodwill the other day (and I've never ever seen any before). Here's the link to the film.

Uncle Buck - 1989
There's few actors who inspire joy in me in every role they do. SCTV alumni John Candy is one of those actors. He's done no bad role (that I've seen). I've recently had the pleasure of watching Uncle Buck (god bless goodwill) and this film was a fun time.
In this film, a husband and wife are traveling to the wife's parent's house to help after her father has had a heart attack. This surprise event means that they need a sudden carer for their 3 children, and who better to invite to babysit than Uncle Buck. John Candy plays a man who never wanted any children and that miscommunicated desire causes his relationship with his lady friend to crumble. But while taking care of the kids, he develops a change of heart while helping the kids/teaching them life lessons. The younger kids think he's strange, and the older kid thinks he's embarrassing. And Uncle Buck thinks he's in over his head.
This film is a classic comedy of a man in a new situation he doesn't want to be in, with responsibilities he suddenly has, that he isn't prepared for but must quickly acclimate to. If you enjoy So I Married an Axe Murderer or Roxanne, I believe you'd enjoy this comedy.

Spider-Man 3 - 2007
I love Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker. This movie has filled me with joy ever since I was young. But I know, regardless of all of my high praise, there exists one truth in the matter that I cannot avoid... This film is awful.
Here are some problems, and then I'll mention why I do not care.
As I've always stated, three villains in one film is quite a choice. None receive enough screen time, and their morals and such are never breached clear enough. I think there are problems with every villain. Why would Peter not just tell Harry that his daddy was Goblin (or why wouldn't Harry realize it with all the Goblin stuff hidden in his daddy's house?), I mean, I comprehend that he made a promise, but I think they needed a closer relationship with either Harry or Osborne for Peter to actually listen to Osborne's dying wish. It just seemed pointless to listen to that dying wish when no relationships were that strong.
Now Sandman, I feel like I comprehend that he is doing these things to try to aid his daughter in some way. But he clearly loses sight of that when he just starts terrorizing people. Like what does he think? If I get away from these cops, I can visit her, or make some money for her? What? I don't know. His character doesn't speak/do much, and I always forget that he was in the film.
Venom. As a child venom thoroughly scared me along with the star wars the clone wars episode where those worms crawled up the clone troopers' noses and mind-controlled them. I think the idea of a loss of control terrifies me, and the way Raimi shows the initial transportation and horror of Venom is wonderful. I love venom, and I wish that one deleted scene where Peter looks in the mirror and sees Venom was left in the film because it further explains his own corruption that he sees, and why he would so swiftly give up the suit. I like that scene a lot. I think Venom was well done but Eddie Brock is the problem. That man, god! A poor poor script for Eddie. I think this venom strays away from the comics where Eddie has perfect symbiosis with Venom, and seeing the recent Venom movie, that's more the dream of what I would have wanted. OVerall, venom is my favourite villain from this movie (especially with Bully Maguire) but Eddie's venom sucks!
Overall, I adore this film. The jokes are funny, I enjoy the Spider-Man stunts and stuff. The train stopping is thoroughly iconic. My only problems are that there are too many villians, and Peter is very selfish throughout the entire movie. So if you love Superhero movies that are funny/memed that you do not have to take seriously (I hate the avengers for being too serious) than you'll really enjoy laughing alongside the terribleness of Spider-Man 3. It's a poor film but nostalgic and wonderful. Tobey Maguire does a very good job. But watch out, if you don't like it, I hear he's gonna put some dirt in your eye.

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) - 2003
This is a very funny theatre show set to dvd where these 3 theatre scholars (self-proclaimed) perform shakespeare to the best of their ability, in a fast-paced comedic way. They go through all of the tragedies and comedies as best they can while interacting with the audience and breaking character.
I promote this to people that like Shakespeare's work and are looking for a time to laugh about some of its flaws. Overall, a very good time and well worth the 1.99 i paid for it at goodwill.

Son in Law - 1993
This is a Pauly Shore film, so really a treat for anyone that enjoys his type of film. Similar to Encino Man (Brendan Fraser actually makes a cameo), Pauly here plays an outrageous hippy-esque character. He's a stoner guy really that wants to help people live life one day at a time, really going for the gusto. No authority really understands him, though, and he receives little respect from the adults. He plays his specific schtick so well, I find it hard to describe but his performances are very enjoyable.
In this story, Crawl (Pauly) is in college and meets Rebecca there. She invites him to join her family for Thanksgiving and in a miscommunication that always must occur in these types of films, he pretends to be her fiancee. He spends his days on the farm trying to prove that he can be a farmer too (he can't). It's a comedy of a guy not fitting in, but eventually, he touches the lives of those around him whether they want him to or not.
Overall, this is a very funny film for those that enjoy these stoner comedies. It's akin to Strange Brew, Wayne's World, and the like. Just a stupidly good time. A fairly enjoyable hour and 35 minutes. I know I will rewatch this film someday soon.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me - 1999
I just watched the second Austin Powers for the first time and I thought it was better than the first one. I thought the characters and gags were well-rounded and recurred wonderfully. I also thought the implementation of Mini Me was phenomenal. Overall, it was a very funny film and a wonderful hour and 35 minutes.
So, if you like campy/comedies that parody action films like Hot Shot and the likes, you'll greatly enjoy this film. The first one had a few too many jokes that I couldn't necessarily stand for but the second one was much more to my taste, and it felt more comedic and better written. I'm very excited to view the third and I'd suggest this film to anyone that wants a shagerrific time!

Kingsman: The Golden Circle - 2017
As my reviews suggest, I generally adore solely comedy movies. Life is so dreary that I don't need to see that amidst my daily "escape". But I really enjoyed the first movie when it was released and thought I'd give the sequel the old college try. I'm very glad I did because I genuinely enjoyed this film a lot.
There isn't much I can say about this film without spoiling it but it follows Taron Egerton as our lead Eggsy. He's a British spy and their spy network is working with the Americans to help stop a deadly threat to the entire world: some evil plan by a lady. This film is pretty funny and I think the action/fight sequences were so well-done. The camerawork was phenomenal. All-in-all, whoever directed this film, I wanna see another one of their movies because it was very good.
I'd promote this film to people that like spy movies or action movies because that's what this is (you're welcome). All-in-all, imma watch the third one sometime and hope it holds up as the other two have. For over 2 hours of movietime, this film engaged me thoroughly. So enjoy! Also, Elton John was in this film. Still trying to understand why, but thank you.
Oh, and watch the first one if you haven't. Because it was better and fun.

So I Married An Axe Murderer - 1993
This is a fun Mike Myers film where Charlie (Mike) wants to get into a committed relationship, but his friend thinks he makes up reasons to ditch his dates when things begin to get serious. He pushes that aside and tries to prove otherwise. But when the girl he is with shows a history that parallels the known names/locations of a murderer in the newspaper, Charlie begins to have second thoughts about their relationship.
This funny black comedy is an hour and 33 minutes of stupid Mike Myers puns and jokes. It's got romance, humor, Mike playing multiple roles, and of course (with Mike Myers) Scottish stuff.
It's not the greatest movie of all time, but if you want something funny to pass the time that survives a rewatch, this is a movie I'd suggest. I had a really good time watching it
If I can't convince you, then I'll let Mike Myers give it a try

My Blue Heaven - 1990
After reading zero reviews of this film and watching it for the first time, I can state my 100 percent opinion of this film with zero outside input. Now, as my fellow reviews imply, I adore Steve Martin and Rick Moranis. So incidentally, there is some bias in what will undoubtedly follow this paragraph. I will try to judge this film fairly, but as any knowledgable person can ascertain, I am a liar. Indubitably!
This film was VERY fun to watch. Picture this, funny guy Steve Martin playing Vinny, an Italian from the rough side of New York. Placed in the Witness Protection program, with Rick Moranis as his FBI pal, Vinny gets shipped off into Sunny-Ville wherever and is greatly shell-shocked from the cultural differences of this small town. Obviously organized crime does not stop overnight, so Vinny will attempt to earn some money and commit some crimes, all the while helping his uptight FBI friend mellow-out. Moranis, who only is helping keep Vinny alive until he talks at the trial is not necessarily team-Vinny at first, but who could dislike Steve Martin? Nobody!
This movie has so much to offer, with comedy, romance, and dancing! Not once, but twice! Holy bejesus!

Teen Beach Movie - 2013
This movie gives off Pleasantville vibes. So, this is a Disney channel musical that I adore. In this film, Ross Lynch loves a movie (et tu, brute?) and because of Disney magic he and his gal-pal are ceremoniously transported into the film. The longer they are there, the more the film is changing, adding them into it, and they are faced with a loss of control.
So this musical is really a quest to return and attempt to rekindle the love between Ross and Mac (Kowabunga attack). This film is a lot more fun than I can describe it. The songs are a hit, the acting by Garrett is awesome, and it's an all-around grand ole time.

Dracula: Dead and Loving It - 1995
I grew up with this film and the Naked Gun franchise so I most definitely am a little biased. This film is an hour and 28-minute comedy that parody's the 1938 Dracula, in some scenes shot-for-shot. All of these movies with Leslie Nielsen: Naked Gun, Airplane, and Dracula each have similar humor and style. But this film is by far the most superior comedy because of the way it not only focuses on Dracula and his goal but also gives attention and time to the people that fear this man. The juxtaposition between who viewers know to be Dracula and the image that they fear is very comedic.
Now for a synopsis... A lovely Dracula (Leslie) is attempting to get himself a bride and at night slowly mind controls/sucks the blood of a lady who already has a fiance. This story, set with Leslie tripping over things, miscommunication, and his god-awful Dracula impersonation makes for an amazing night out at the theatres. I highly suggest this film to everyone!

The Jerk - 1979
I'm not certain there's a Steve Martin film that is bad. He, along with Leslie Nielsen who I used to confuse with one another, both have flawless film careers. Sure, some of their stuff makes me pull a Spock where I lift one eyebrow in a confused/concerned glance. But overall, funny guys, the duo.
This specific film, The Jerk, is one my father adores. In this hour and 34-minute film, Navin (Steve-oh) leaves his family home and attempts to make something of himself on his own. Through communication errors, the comedic elements of this film shine through, portraying an action-packed love story. There's a moral and everything. With Steve as the lead, what more could you desire?
If I cannot hype this up enough, then there's really no point. But I've attached the trailer anyways.

The Cable Guy - 1996
This is a comedy by renowned actor Jim Carrey. Jimothy here plays a (you guessed it) Cable Guy. For an hour and 36 minutes, you get Jimothy playing off of Ferris Bueller, showcasing his broad acting range. Amazeballs.
Now for the plot descriptor. Steven meets Chip (Jimothy) and the two form a one-sided friendship, but pretty soon the friendship becomes overbearing and downright unsettling for one of the parties members. His friend is following him everywhere he goes and messing with his life. What's a guy to do? With Drama, Horror, and tons of Comedy, this film is a perfect trifecta.
Have I convinced you? Come on, it's Jimothy. The world loves Jimothy... only a few parts of the world don't know it yet.
Here's the trailer for a pretty darn good film:

George Of The Jungle - 1997
What are the ingredients for a perfect comedy?
Fourth Wall Breaks
Acknowledging a different "improved" ending
And most importantly, renowned star Brendan Fraser
I love this film with all of my heart! George of the Jungle is a rambunctious comedy. It's got action, comedy, romance, talking monkeys. Imagine this... A young man who grew up in the jungle meets a woman who is visiting to see some gorillas. For such and such reasons (no spoils) she takes him home to the United States. Here we follow his exploits, a jungle boy moved to a different sort of jungle.
I don't want to spoil anything, but this film truly is amazing! The sequel does not have Brendan Fraser (tragic) but is also very good. So overall, an hour and 32 minutes of pure joy. Gosh, this film. Awesomesauce

The Way He Looks - 2014
This film from Brazil is an expansion of a short film that was highly well-received, thus it got the funding for a full-fledged film. This is a cute little coming-of-age romance story about two boys who fall in love during the span of an hour and 36 minutes. Now here's the plot:
One of the boys, Leo, is blind and gets a bit bullied in his classes. He has a best friend who is a girl named Giovana who is very nice to him, but when the new boy in school shows up, Leo and the new guy start hanging out a lot and something might be blooming. Who knows? But Giovana sure ain't content for her own reasons. You wanna know? Well, your darn gonna wanna watch this film. Here's the 17-minute short film (like the same film, but shorter. Maybe even better???)
youtube
Oh, and I forgot to mention that this film has a nice soundtrack. Not very relevant, but it adds to the whole cutesy story with an upbeat and hopeful soundtrack. I don't know why, but the main song gets stuck in my head a lot. Good film!

The Truman Show - 1998
This hour and 47-minute film is hands down Jim Carrey's most dramatic film and I've seen The Number 23 (which I enjoyed a lot, sorry world). The idea here is that young jimothy is in a world where his entire life from the day he was born has been aired on tv as a daytime show. Everything he knows is a product, every person he knows is an actor, and every unique idea he has that couldn't fit with their desire for the show has been shot down. It's such an interesting film based off of an episode of The Twilight Zone (surprise surprise). The Twilight Zone episode was pretty good so if you like this, watch that 20-minute thing too.
Jimothy here plays Truman Burbank, the star of the show, and this whole film is about him discovering late into his life that things aren't all that they appear. On his quest to discover why things just happen to him, we follow his romance and paranoia in this hilarious comedy.
There isn't much I can say about this film... he just does such a great job! So If I cannot convince you to watch this film, there isn't much else I can do. Here's the trailer:
youtube
What if I'm telling you about this film to get you off of the track that you yourself are in a Truman Show-type situation? There's no way to know. no way
