Hufflepuff x Slytherin? Beautiful, amazing. My favorite.
Ravenclaw x Gryffindor? Incredible, I adore it.
But Slytherin x Gryffindor, who stress each other out, but would have it no other way? That deserves more love.

The Last of Us HBO Hogwarts Sorting Part 1
I have wanted to do this for a while! I am labeling this HBO sorting because I sort some characters differently than the game, specifically Dina.
Joel: Slytherin
I don’t think this should come as a surprise to anyone. Besides Joel’s obvious cunning, resourcefulness, and self-preservation, this man killed an entire hospital full of fireflies and chose Ellie over a cure for humanity. He will use any means to protect those he loves and get the job done. Nothing will get in his way. He is driven and cunning, and he puts his family first.
Ellie: Gryffindor
This is another one I find obvious. Dina perfectly put it in the last episode: “Don’t get angry. You’re a little crazy.” Ellie is reckless, impulsive, and cares little for her safety. She is an act-first, think-later gal. Most of all, she values strength and bravery. She’s fiercely protective and courageous. Some say Slytherin for part 2 because of her revenge spree, but that does not change who she is at her core. She may have adapted some Slytherin-like behaviors due to Joel being her dad, but any house is capable of being overcome by a desire for revenge; it is not house-specific. She’s a Gryffindor through and through.
Dina: Ravenclaw
I adore the added depth they have given her character. Dina is not only brilliant, but she also shows a desire to learn. We see this when she asks Joel to teach her. Where Ellie acts first, Dina thinks first. She’s tactical and tries to avoid a fight. I could see an argument for Hufflepuff, but I think we are seeing a significant desire to learn and try to rein in her Gryffindor GF, especially in the show. Try is the key word here.
Abby: Gryffindor
This is another Ellie situation for me. Some people put her into Slytherin because of her desire to avenge her father, but I think that is people going off of vibes and putting Slytherin into the “evil house” box. As a Slytherin myself, it’s frustrating. I won’t say that Abby isn’t ambitious and resourceful, but I think her daring and nerve, paired with her determination, shine more.
If you have different sorting opinions, I would love to hear them!

a quick psa to anyone recently getting into greek mythology and is a victim of tumblr and/or tiktok misconceptions:
-there is no shame in being introduced to mytholgy from something like percy jackson, epic the musical or anything like that, but keep in mind that actual myths are going to be VERY different from modern retellings
-the myth of medusa you probably know (her being a victim of poseidon and being cursed by athena) isn't 100% accurate to GREEK mythology (look up ovid)
-there is no version of persephone's abduction in which persephone willingly stays with hades, that's a tumblr invention (look up homeric hymn to demeter)
-as much as i would like it, no, cerberus' name does not mean "spot" (probably a misunderstanding from this wikipedia article)
-zeus isn't the only god who does terrible things to women, your fav male god probably has done the same
-on that note, your fav greek hero has probably done some heinous shit as well
-gods are more complicated than simply being "god of [insert thing]", many titles overlap between gods and some may even change depending on where they were worshipped
-also, apollo and artemis being the gods of the sun and the moon isn't 100% accurate, their main aspects as deities originally were music and the hunt
-titans and gods aren't two wholly different concepts, titan is just the word used to decribe the generation of gods before the olympians
-hector isn't the villain some people make him out to be
-hephaestus WAS married to aphrodite. they divorced. yes, divorce was a thing in ancient greece. hephaestus' wife is aglaia
-ancient greek society didn't have the same concepts of sexuality that we have now, it's incorrect to describe virgin goddesses like artemis and athena as lesbians, BUT it's also not wholly accurate to describe them as aromantic/asexual, it's more complex than that
-you can never fully understand certain myths if you don't understand the societal context in which they were told
-myths have lots and lots of retellings, there isn't one singular "canon", but we can try to distinguish between older and newer versions and bewteen greek and roman versions
-most of what you know about sparta is probably incorrect
-reading/waching retellings is not a substitute to reading the original myths, read the iliad! read the odyssey! i know they may seem intimidating, but they're much more entertaining than you may think
greek mythology is so complex and interesting, don't go into it with preconcieved notions! try to be open to learn!

percy jackson is not a gryffindor and annabeth chase is not a ravenclaw, and i will argue this until i die
percy is a hufflepuff
- his fatal flaw is literally loyalty
-the scene in tartarus, when percy is choking akhlys with her own posion and he can’t make himself stop until he sees annabeth is scared of him. this is a hufflepuff trait to me, stay with me now. in my head, hufflepuffs have a really long fuse. they can endure a lot. and percy did, he endured 9 books of it by that point and he had never come close to this. but at some point, a hufflepuff has to snap. a “bend when you can, snap when you have to” kind of thing
- speaking of tartarus, he quite literally fell into the deepest part of the underworld for annabeth. in my opinion (which means nothing), a gryffindor would’ve vowed to get her out. a hufflepuff, percy, would fall with her.
- when grover asked percy if he wanted the empathy link broken and explained why it was dangerous to have one, percy said no. he always wanted to be connected to his friend and be able to find him if he needed to, even at the cost of his own life
- a hufflepuff’s achilles heel being stabbed in the back just fits, okay?
- he is insanely protective over the people he loves. he only went on the quest in the first book because there was the slightest chance of getting his mom back
annabeth chase is a slytherin
- she spent 5 years of her life meticulously analyzing and watching every new camper who came to CHB, waiting to see if they would be the one to get her that quest that Chiron promised her
- she was so determined, so ambitious, to prove herself to her mom. all she needed was one chance and she would get the job done
- slytherin’s are often watered-down in their intellectual ability, but people forget just how intelligent one can be. slytherin’s think outside the box, they’re always 10 steps ahead. sounds a lot like our girl
- annabeth is prepared for everything and anything at all times, aware of what could possibly go wrong and has a solution for it
- slytherin’s are responsible. annabeth chase was responsible for an entire cabin of campers by the time she was 12
- of course her fatal flaw is her hubris, which can be taken as pride but hubris also means over-confidence. slytherin’s have an immense sense of self worth and confidence, which can be their biggest downfall. just like annabeth
- annabeth consistently displays cunningness in the books, consistently outsmarting enemies in ways that others don’t think to do. like how she drops her dagger into the ocean just for percy to literally was away her enemies. remember, cunningness is not always an evil trait
of course both percy and annabeth share traits with other houses.
percy has a lot of gryffindor traits, like recklessness and his immense bravery, and annabeth has quite a few ravenclaw traits.
but in my opinion (again, which means nothing), i would put them into hufflepuff and slytherin!
