Musicals are time loops. Every night, the same thing happens except for a few minor differences. It always ends the same. If you want the characters to do something different or to make better choices, too bad. The actors are bound by the script and the score. The only way for the time loop to end is for the show to close. But you (the audience) don't want the show to close, nor do the actors who would like to be employed. It's a lose/lose situation. For the actors, audience, technicians, and for the characters, who are forever stuck in the same stretch of time.

2025/07/06 #lesmiserables 40th anniversary tour Taiwan taipei
After the show, I returned home. The strong winds from the typhoon and the thoughts in my head made it hard for me to fall asleep.
I thought to myself, I should draw my fav scenes! My favorite character has always been Javert, and @bradleyjaden is so amazing!( Everyone should go see his show. )
Now I only regret not buying more tickets to watch more times, and not paying attention in the sketching class at school. (My sister who went to the show with me thought my drawing was not realistic enough.I try
Les miserables is so great. Since I am kinda afraid of planes and travel. I am really happy have the opportunity to see this musical in Taiwan. Thank you all the crews in this show!

I am so obsessed with Valjean and Javert's ocean and river symbolism
I mean, I love the fact that Victor Hugo spends all this time establishing a nautical metaphor around Valjean (Billows and shadows) so that a direct comparison can be made between his connection to the sea and Javert's connection to the river.
After all, the two bodies of water are more similar than dissimilar, but the ways in which they differ shape what they are on a fundamental level.
Oceans are directionless. They are temperamental, violent, prone to sudden changes in the weather. They are cold, cruel, and most importantly vast. An ocean's strength is undefeated, for the sea cannot be tamed by any man on earth.
So too was Toulon era Valjean.
Rivers, on the other hand, are dictated by their direction. They have a current, a flow, and they maintain it for their entire existence. Though they can be violent, humanity has learnt to harness their rage to their own benefit - societies are built upon the banks of rivers. A river may not be as strong as the sea, but it is not lawless. It is stable, predictable, and easily understood.
As was Javert.
How can anyone not love Les Mis? In it, Victor Hugo shows us what happens when an ocean is tamed and a river loses it's direction.
