For Thanksgiving break, I stayed in Columbia with one of my roommates and two of my good friends who live down the hall. Every year on Thanksgiving, my family and I watch the iconic Christmas movie, Home Alone. This comedy takes place in a town outside of Chicago, which is where I happen to be from. I wanted to keep this tradition going even being away from home, so I forced my friends to watch it with me. This movie is about a young boy, Kevin, who is accidentally left behind when his family goes on Christmas vacation. Two burglars plot to rob the neighborhood homes, and Kevin overhears their plan. He makes it his mission to defend his home against them and ultimately succeeds.

Today I watched the Holiday once I finished all my homework. This is a romantic comedy film about two women who decide to swap homes for the holidays to escape their realities. One woman is a filmmaker from Los Angeles and caught her husband cheating on her with her assistant. The other woman is from England and found out her ex-boyfriend who she still keeps in contact with was just recently engaged. The two have very different personalities, but have similar end goals from this vacation. They both find unexpected love in different ways. The cast was casted perfectly and so was the plot.

Tonight my roommates and I all watched the movie Moana. This is a cute Disney animated film that was released not too long ago. A young girl feels a connection to the ocean and the seas although her island is forbidden to go past the reefs. The island begins to notice that the crops won't grow, the fish have disappeared, and the trees are all dying. She one day talks to her grandma about the tragedy, and hears that the heart of the ocean has been stolen by a god named Maui. She understands that her mission is to restore the heart, and save her island. She goes behind her parent's backs on a daring mission to set sail in the sea. She meets Maui and they have their challenges together, but end up working together. It's a very heartwarming film and also one of my favorites.

Tonight my roommate and I watched the movie Avatar. This film is directed by James Cameron, who is notorious for directing films such as, Titanic and the Terminator. His films tend to have lots of amazing CGI effects that take intense work. This sci-fi film takes place in a fictional world called Pandora. This is a planet that humans are trying to mine a very valuable mineral to them. It can be sold at high prices as well. A paraplegic ex marine, Jake, is sent as a Na'vi to gain the indigenous people's trust. His main goal is to move them away from the minerals the humans want to obtain. As he begins to fall in love with one of the native women, he questions what he's really there for. He becomes involved in their fight against the humans when he understands the true beauty of the planet and it's connection to the natives. This is one of my favorite movies of all time.

Tonight my roommates and I watched The Last Song starring Miley Cyrus. This is a fun, yet emotional movie of young love and teen growth. Ronnie (Miley) has a bad relationship with her father, who unknowingly has terminal cancer. Her and her younger brother are forced to stay with him over the summer against their will. Ronnie is acting out towards her father and rebelling. She falls in love with a boy and her opinions towards her father begin to change. My overall rating towards this movie would have to be a 7.8/10.

Today I watched The Notebook with all my roommates. We decided on this movie after seeing a Tik Tok video about one of the scenes and we knew we needed to watch it. One of my roommates also hadn't seen the movie yet, so we knew we needed for her to watch it. This movie is about a young couple who grows apart with time and they eventually come back together under strange circumstances. I've seen this movie a few times, but I'll never say no to watching it. My personal rating to this movie would have to be a 8.7/10. My roommate who just watched the movie for the first time rated it a 7.5/10. This is for sure a must watch for all.

Today I woke up pretty sick, which meant I was watching my movie alone. Anytime I get sick I binge comfort movies, which tend to all be on Disney plus. Today’s pick for me was the Disney movie, Tangled. Not only is this movie a cute love story, but it’s pretty humorous. I love the horse Maximus and his relationship with Flynn or Eugene. It’s a pretty light hearted watch, but has a great message. I’ve seen this movie countless times and I’m still intrigued with every watch. If you haven’t seen this movie, for sure give it a watch. Overall rating would be a 9.3/10.

Today I watched Sarah’s Key. This is a movie based around the Holocaust, specifically following a little girl and her journey escaping the concentration camp. A research journalist in 2009 is digging for clues about Sarah’s story. The movie alternates between 1942 and 2009. It’s a very emotional movie considering Sarah is only 10 years old, and she gets separated from her family. They get kicked out of their family home and she hides her brother. The scenes were executed very well and looked realistic. I really enjoyed this movie up to the last 30 minutes. The beginning kept you roped in and excited for what was to come next. However, once it reached the ending of Sarah’s story, I feel it began to get boring. My roommate and I feel it got dragged out for way too long and should’ve ended sooner. Overall, I’d give this movie a rating of 6.4/10. It had an amazing lesson behind it and a great story as well.

Tonight’s movie pick was Titanic. A classic but great movie. This is a rewatch for the both of us, yet it still intrigues us every time. We decided on this movie staring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Although this was a long movie, we had plenty of time on our Sunday night. It kept us on the edge of our seats even already knowing the ending. A true tragedy that coincides with a fictional love story was displayed perfectly in this film. The director, James Cameron, set up a 17 million gallon water tank to film the scenes of the sinking ship. A fun fact about the movie is that the duration of the film is the duration of the time it took the Titanic to sink after hitting the iceberg.
Rating: 9.2/10

Movie Nights
Hey guys! I've decided to create my blog about different movies my roommate and I watch during the week. We're both avid movie lovers and enjoy rewatching movies and finding new ones. We switch off picking the movies. After each movie, we like to give them a rating. We usually discuss the plot of the movie and what we liked/disliked about it as well. The rating includes the character development, plot, cinematography, and storyline. We usually pick two movies every week regardless, and it is something we both enjoy critiquing and discussing amongst each other due to our similar interests.
