Dear Minors who keep following and Interacting with Explicit stories, I want you to look at this:

It is illegal for an individual to knowingly use interactive computer services to display obscenity in a manner that makes it available to a minor less than 18 years of age (See 47 U.S.C. § 223(d)). (As stated in a Tumblr post. Click the link to read it fully)

I have seen a lot of discourse, again, about minors being in NSFW spaces and even some adults defending minors and that's not okay. A friend and I have done some research and have collected the above materials to show minors (those who are under the age of 18) that it is illegal for a minor to write, read, or interact with any sort of NSFW work.

When you do so you are putting adults at risk because adults will have to answer for your actions. You are putting adults at risk of legal trouble. When an adult blocks you it is not because they are trying to be mean, it's because they are trying to protect themselves and in existence you from anything bad happening. Nobody wants to end up in jail over a fucking fictional story. It's not fair to adults that you're putting them at such risk because you want to read about your favorite characters having sex.

An author has a responsibility to tag their stories, put warnings on them, and at times disclaimers for the stories so that the reader can make an informed decision before reading. If a story is marked as explicit or the author says they do not want anyone under the age of 18 to read their content then don't read it.

Everyone is allowed to have boundaries. Smut authors are trying to create safe boundaries so they do not do anything that would get them into trouble. If a person - whether or not an they write smut expresses that they don't want children or teens to follow them then that needs to be respected.

It is not anyone responsibility to provide minors with blogs that are safe for them to consume. If a minor can find NSFW blogs then they can find blogs that are safe for them.

Parents - and I know there are parents on here - need to take it upon themselves to educate their children on internet safety and not going into spaces that are not for them. They need to be more proactive in knowing what their children are doing on the internet. There are too many unsafe places and unsafe people on the internet for children and teens to be on it without parent knowledge.

Minors: you need to think about what you're doing and how you're putting people in danger. It is not worth it just so you can read material that's meant for adults. Stop putting people at risk. Stop not listening. Stop following blogs that are under the age of 18. You are in the wrong, not the adults blocking you.

PSA regarding tumblr’s latest Censorship Nightmare

For those of you who haven’t seen this announcement, tumblr recently made some changes to the iOS version of the app, purportedly to comply with Apple’s content guidelines. These changes took effect on Dec 21, starting in version 22.5.1 of the iOS app. As some of you may recall, Apple’s strict guidelines were the driving force for the infamous Great Purge of 2018, which coincidentally also happened around this time of year, but it seems banning all of the female-presenting nipples wasn’t good enough for Apple.

Below is a summary of the important changes. Note that these changes technically ONLY affect those using the iOS app. If you’re accessing tumblr through a different app or operating system (Google Chrome, Android app, etc) it won’t affect you directly but it will affect your followers who use iOS so you should definitely be aware of it.

The list of banned tags has been expanded. As before, there’s no way to know which words or phrases have been banned until you try searching for them, in which case you’ll either get no search results or the following message: “This content has been hidden because of potentially suggestive or explicit content.” You may think this doesn’t concern you if you don’t post explicit material, but do not make the mistake of expecting the banned tags to be logical or reasonable. I’ve already encountered multiple completely innocuous posts (random fandom gifsets) that seem to be hidden on iOS for no discernible reason.

Blogs that have been flagged as explicit can no longer be viewed. Previously, flagged blogs just had their posts hidden from searches, but if you knew the username you could still visit it after clicking through a warning about sensitive content. Now you can’t access it at all.

Likes and reblogs from blogs that have been flagged will no longer show up in your notes. This one won’t affect most people’s user experience as much as the others, but it does mean you may be missing notes. It’s unclear if likes and reblogs from flagged blogs will still count towards the overall note total (and only be missing from the activity feed and note viewer) but I suspect that’s the case.

THE BIG ONE: ANY POST TAGGED WITH A BANNED TAG WILL NO LONGER SHOW UP ON YOUR DASHBOARD. Previously, if you tagged a post with a banned word or phrase (even if the words were used inside another tag), that post would not show up in searches, but your followers would still be able to see it on their dashboard. Now those posts are hidden from your own followers as well. This includes both original posts and reblogs. And if that wasn’t bad enough, here’s the real kicker: even if you don’t tag something with one of the banned words, if the OP used a banned tag, any reblogs of that post will not show up on anyone’s dashboard (on the iOS app). The only saving grace here, and I hate to even call it that, is that the blocked posts are still visible if you visit a blog directly or if you have post notifications turned on.

As usual, tumblr was extremely unclear and evasive about all of this in their official announcement. Not surprising, of course, since if more people were aware of these new draconian tactics I can’t imagine there wouldn’t be more of an uproar about it. Tumblr claims that these changes are somewhat temporary and that they are currently working on something that will allow for a less restricted iOS experience, but they refuse to say what that something is and when it will be implemented. And let’s just say, considering their track record, I’m not hopeful.

All of this is horrible and infuriating for many reasons, but the worst part is how insanely counterproductive it is to creating the “safe” environment tumblr (or more specifically Apple) supposedly wants.

Tags have always been used for both blog organization and filtering purposes. Tagging posts with triggers and content warnings is a common practice that gives users the ability to filter out content they may find upsetting or just don’t don’t want to see for whatever reason. By choosing to ban a bunch of unlisted “sensitive content” tags, all they’re doing is encouraging people who want to share that kind of content to come up with alternative less well-known tags or simply not tag that content at all anymore if they want it to show up on their follower’s dashboards, thereby making it more likely for someone to encounter it when they didn’t want to.

So really, with all of the alleged concern for safety and “protecting the children,” all they’ve done is make tumblr less safe for everyone. Typical.

You’d asked him to leave you alone but you heard the door unlock close to midnight. Sy was the only one who had a key so you knew that it was him. You wanted to roll over and not engage in conversation at this hour because you were too emotional, but a loud crash caused you to sit up quickly. Your heart started to race and for a minute you had flashbacks of being a child and witnessing a break in at your family home.

“Sugar it’s just me”.

You breathed a sigh of relief when you heard Sy’s voice. You got out of bed and turned the nightlight on before walking down the hallway. You had to do a double take when you saw Sy slumped down against the front door clutching a pile of books that he’d obviously knocked over from the side table. And yes he was drunk.

“Sy”. You knelt down next to him and took the books out of his hands.

“Baby .. whatcha doing awake?” Sy slurred.

“You bloody well woke me up. Sy you’re drunk!”

“I’m not drunk Sugar”. Sy grinned. “Maybe a bit drunk”.

“Tell me you didn’t drive!”

“Drive? Nah I didn’t drive .. I can’t even walk!” Sy laughed then closed his eyes. His hands rubbed at your bare thighs as his fingers played with the hem of his t shirt that you wear wearing.

“How am I going to get you to bed you stupid man? I can’t lift you off the bloody floor!” You pushed at Sy’s shoulders until he opened his eyes.

“You can lift me”. He closed them again, slurring his speech. “You can take me to bed and .. have your way with me”.

“Idiot”. You huffed as you got to your feet. You marched into the spare room and grabbed a blanket and a few pillows. You lay them next to the door before Sy glanced at you then lay down without a word. You knelt at his feet and tugged his boots off then pulled his phone, wallet and keys out his pocket and tossed them onto the corner table.

“Sorry baby”. Sy muttered. You were still angry but you couldn’t help but stroke his face. He was mumbling something but you couldn’t make out what he was saying. You lent in closer.

“Didn’t love her .. didn’t even buy her the you know .. goes on here”. Sy was gesturing to his finger. What? He didn’t love her or buy her a ring? Wait .. didn’t he give her his mother’s ring? How on earth do you get engaged to someone you don’t love? You knew he was drunk but you also knew that alcohol for some was like a truth serum.

“You didn’t love her?”

“Nope”. Sy had his eyes shut.

“We’ll talk tomorrow”. You felt bad trying to pry information out of him in this state. You got up and headed over to the couch and lay down facing where Sy was sprawled out.

“But you ..” Sy pointed at you, his speech slurred. “You have my heart .. and I told you yeah? I told you that I loved ya”.

You chewed on your bottom lip as you watched Sy close his eyes. You stared at him and in a few minutes he was snoring. You slowly got up from the sofa and laid down next to him as you tucked a pillow under your stomach. Sy’s hands reached for you and pulled you into his chest. You knew you’d pay for sleeping on the floor in the morning, but you couldn’t leave him alone.

You woke up feeling stiff and sore. You rubbed at your neck before noticing Sy was looking at you. He was awake.

“Why are we on the floor Sugar?”

“You were drunk. You collapsed here and I couldn’t move you”. You sat up slowly.

“Shit”. Sy rubbed his head. “I’m sorry love”.

“It’s ok. I was the idiot who slept next to you”.

“Are you ok?” Sy rubbed your arm then touched your stomach.

“Not the best thing to do when you’re seven months pregnant”. You shook your head. “I should have left your ass down here by yourself”.

“You still mad?” Sy rubbed his eyes. “I got a fucking killer headache”.

“Your fault. And no I’m not mad at you, just a bit hurt”. You sighed. “I feel like you can’t open up to me. I hate that Sy”.

“I’m sorry. I want to tell you ok?” Sy got up slowly and moved to help you up. “Can I shower and have a coffee first?”

“Ok”.

“Shower with me? Just a shower, nothing else babe. Let me take care if you”.

You were still a bit mad but truth was you needed a shower and the thought of Sy washing your hair like he did was making it tempting.

“No sex Sy. I’m not in the mood”.

“No sex”. Sy took your hand and led you into the bathroom where he proceeded to wash every inch of you. As he knelt down on the floor of the shower, washing your legs he suddenly bought his lips to your knee.

“I’m sorry .. so sorry”. One, two, three kisses to your skin. Al long and drawn out, eyes looking up at you. “Im not good at this stuff .. talking bout things. Emotions and shit”.

“Sy I just want to know you. All of you”.

“You have all of me”. Sy smirked.

“That’s not what I mean”.

“I know love”. Sy stood up and you had to admire that even hungover, he was beyond any fantasy you’d ever had. You couldn’t believe You got this guy. “I’ve known her since we were kids. Never really liked her but she was always easy and .. a guy has needs”.

“Right” I rolled my eyes as his hands circled my waist.

“I came back from duty one time completely shattered. I just .. wanted a life. Someone to be there for me. And while it was casual for me, she couldn’t let go. I felt fucking guilty because I knew I was using her. I was messed up and one night my mother suggested I settle down and fuck .. I had too much to drink, next thing my mother gave me her ring and …”

“So this wasn’t some romance?”

“Fuck no! A bad decision, built on my own selfishness and guilt”. Sy paused. “My mother’s ring … it’s god awful but she said yes”.

“How long were you engaged?”

“A few months? 4 or 5?” Sy pushed some hair behind my ear. “Felt even worse ending it. I was an asshole to her”.

“Hmmm sounds like you were, but I kind of get where you were coming from. Wanting a life .. needing someone”.

“I just felt like shit when we brushed over the subject. I know marriage means something to you .. it should mean something to everyone. I just thought if I told you about Jessica.. well”.

“You thought I’d assume it meant nothing to you?”

“Yeah”. Sy sighed. “I’m really shit at this stuff Sugar. Considering other people’s feelings, I’m just…I’ve never had to think like this before”.

“I know”. You touched Sy’s face. “Look I just need to process things ok? Thank you for talking to me. I know it’s not something that comes easy to you”. You paused and took a deep breath. “Sy .. your mother … I think what she did last night was horrible. She set that up. The whole running into Jessica ..”

“I’ve thought that too. I spoke with Jessica though and she told me that she did run into us. She was having dinner with a few of her work colleagues”.

“Sy you believe that?” You rolled your eyes. “I think her and your mum orchestrated the whole thing”.

“I can see how youd think that Sugar but Jessica is an open book, I know that much”

“Sy!”

“Love”. Sy stood up letting the water wash over his face. “I know how my mother can be but Jessica assured me. That’s not to say that my mother didn’t stir the pot ok?”

You stood there dumbfounded. Was it just a coincidence? Why would Jessica cover it up? You felt unsettled by the whole situation, but you also realised that everyone was insignificant when it came to your relationship with Sy. You had to work on that first.

“Ok”. Your hands rested on your stomach as your baby kicked. Sy’s hands covered yours.

“He’s busy”. Sy smiled softly as he touched your stomach softly.

“I think he’s as stressed as I am to be honest. He’s been moving around a lot today”.

“I’m sorry love. You forgive me?” Sy kissed your forehead. “I should have communicated with you. I promise I’m an open book from now on”.

“I’ll hold you to that”.

Sy kissed your lips softly. He was so tentative compared to normal and you knew it was because of the situation. He didn’t want to push too far.

“You can kiss me you know”. You smirked.

“Yeah?” Sy moved you until your back pressed against the cold tiles. He made good on his promise and kissed you thoroughly, his tongue was making you almost forget your no sex vow as it moved in and out of your mouth almost imitating the act. “No sex right?”

“Nope”.

“I so wanna fuck you right now Sugar”.

You knew. He was hot, hard and pressed up against you. But sex right now wouldn’t have been a good idea. You still needed to think.

“Spank me?” You laughed as you closed the shower door. “I’d like to see that!”

You changed into a pair of leggings and a t shirt, brushed your hair and headed into the kitchen. Coffee was brewing and you were thankful for the leftover breakfast frittata that you had in the fridge. You heated it up and made some toast when you heard a knock on the door. You wiped your hands on the towel and headed over to check who it was.

Sy’s mother. Fucking great.

“Louisa”. You stood in the doorway with no intention of letting her in. “Come to create more drama?”

“Dear I just wanted to talk ..”

“Bullshit!” You were furious. You saw straight through this woman. “You might be able to convince Sy that last night was all a coincidence but not me! I’m not some woman that gets walked on so save your breath!”

“Now you listen here girlie!” Sy’s mother pointed a manicured finger close to your face. “I know what you are. You’re trying to trap my son! God knows if this child is even his! And I as his mother won’t allow it! I did what I had to do! And it was easy! Money talks …but you wouldn’t have a clue about that would you?”

“Oh my god!” You swatted her finger away as she gasped. “I knew you were guilty! How could you stoop so low? You PAID Jessica off to cause that drama the other night!”.

“I did what I needed to do to protect my boy!” Sy’s mother glared at you.

“Your boy? Sy is a grown man for gods sake!”

“You are a little bitch!” Sy’s mother grabbed at your shoulders. You were just about to contemplate messing up her perfectly styled hair when Sy’s voice made you jump.

“GET YOUR HANDS OF HER!”

At first you wondered if Sy was angry at you. After all you were presently shaking his mother. But no, Sy was fuming at the one woman who was meant to be on his side.

“Noah! This girl is …”

“I heard you! I fucking heard you!” Sy grabbed his mother and spun her around so quickly that she momentarily lost her balance. “Get out! I’m goddam tired of your bullshit! I’m not someone you can manipulate! I’m meant to be your son!”

“I’m your mother! Your family!” Sy’s mother stood at the door screaming.

“Family?” Sy laughed.”fucking hell .. no mother this right here is my family and I’m going to protect them from this shit ok? Now leave!” Sy wrapped an arm around you and you both watched as Sy’s mother processed what was being said to her.

“Noah!”

“I said leave! You lied to me .. told me that you just bumped into Jessica! Fuck she lied to me too”. Sy gritted his teeth. “Can’t you see how messed up this is? This is my goddam life mother!”.

“Noah!”

“Just go”. Sy pointed at the door. “Please just go”.

“Fine I’ll leave! But when this all falls apart don’t you dare come to me!”

“Who says it will fall apart?” Sy glared at his mother until she closed the door behind her. “Fucking hell”.

“Sy I’m sorry”. You turned to him.

“Don’t Sugar. You were right”.

“But she’s your mum. I don’t feel good watching you get hurt”. You hugged him close.

“I know. That’s why I love ya”. Sy cupped your face.

You smiled before capturing his lips with yours. You opened your mouth to deepen this kiss and heard him groan as his tongue found yours. You pulled away and laughed as your baby kicked hard against your belly causing Sy to jump.

“Jesus!” Sy touched your stomach. “Am I seriously already getting cock blocked?”

“He’s been kicking me like crazy today. Think my stress levels are high”. You kissed Sy again and relaxed as he leaned down to rest his chin on the top of your head. “Are you ok?”

“About not getting any?” Sy laughed.

“No silly! About what just happened. Are you ok? She’s still your mum Sy”.

“I’m ok love. I should have listened to you ..guess I just didn’t want to believe that she’d do something like that. Even Jessica .. money talks right?”

“I love you Sy. I really truly love you”. You watched as he moved back to look at you. His eyes searched yours.

“I know. And I love you right back”.
