Hetalia Prussia. Hetalia Prussia who was born with the sole purpose of keeping his siblings alive, to be a medic. Who was then thrust into the fight anyway, with little to no preparation and training. Who killed, was killed, saw his siblings and friends alike killed. Who, unlike the other personifications, didn't have an "oh, they're mortal and I'm not." moment because he knew it from birth. Who left the land he was born in but never felt any connection to. Who never owned anything.
Who was exiled by someone he had began to think of as a friend, because he started to have a place he considered his home. Who had to always do his best to make people, his family, like him because else, he was risking his life. Who saw his best friend and first love be killed because of negative opinions and jealousy of others. Who killed someone and took their name for himself.
Prussia who never knew anything outside of the sword and the prayer, who has been taught that it was right to spread the prayer with the sword. Who has been taught that without the sword, it is impossible. Who lives within the legacy of a saint, a martyr who had tried to do the same he is. Just peacefully.
Who then is witness to Poland peacefully, with love even, getting Lithuania, the last pagan of Europe, to become Christian. Poland, who was (pretty much) the person who hired him to get rid of the pagans. Which makes his existence, that he had worked hard to maintain, pointless.
Who swore an oath to follow the Catholic Church's teachings. Who has been praised for how well he does that, yet in his eyes, Poland is a much better embodiment of the seven virtues. Who then has to become a fief to Poland. Who, despite centuries of rivalry and murder attempts, starts to treat Prussia like a family member. But it's still not real. Because they are sovereign and fief. And Poland treating him like his child is a sign of his power over him. But Prussia has never felt the love of a family.
Who then is thrust away from Catholicism. And again, he is supposed to own nothing. And he's supposed to believe that his old life was sinful. And before, he could atleast have pretty things that were used to worship.
Prussia who later becomes a major power, fighting his way to the top. When he was never meant to fight.
Who bullies his siblings into submission to keep the most important brother of his alive. The brother, whom being related to made Prussia so important in the first place. But he stops being alive. And a new one is born. And he has to take care of that new most important brother. Raise him. He decides to teach him the values he was as a child. The values he had never had the chance to truly follow.
I just think Prussia is neat.
#GRRRR yes#i love it when people give Prussia medical abilities based on the fact that the TO started out as a hospital#But may I remind that it was also a burial site<3. And yesss he saw death from the very beginning and very close.#I even headcanon that is where his habit of compulsive diary writing stemms from.#I like that it took a huge vulnerability to become what Prussia became and I love when people exploit this#hws prussia#Overall I love your take so much

Everyone clap for non consensual body modification everybody loves a character whose body has been altered against their will
#oh fuck. this. but in the context of two semi-immortal guys tied to plots of land one of which has just been near-wiped out#now in response consider 'was i supposed to let you die?' type shit.#it’s better for you this way type shit#one growing dependant on the other over time type shit and the other freaking out because the guy they modified is increasingly not >#>their former self#eventually the 'what did you do to me' guy is begging for more#'improvements' to their body whilst the other is increasingly freaking out over what they’ve done.#yes I ship them and it's a fucking ship of Theseus. y'all will also never guess who I’m on about

The phrase "land swap" is being used to mean "Ukraine concedes land illegally occupied by Russia and also concedes territory that is not even occupied." That is not a swap.
Everyone using the phrase "land swap" should please specify which Russian territory Ukraine would be getting. So far it’s a euphemism for forcing Ukraine to give things up to Russia.
#my favorite metaphor for this remains the situation when your neighbour next door broke through your wall with a heavy object >#> barricaded the kitchen and the toilet#and the swap in question means that you let him keep the kitchen in return for being able to use your own legally owned toilet.#maybe. If he feels like it.#only because the neighbour owns 'a heavy object'#but keep in mind that he’ll most probably not even use the kitchen as he already owns the biggest apartment in the house.#👽👽👽??

The majority of people in every region of Ukraine voted to break free from the Soviet Union.

34 years ago, on August the 24th of 1991, Ukraine finally proclaimed independence. Renewed independence, technically.

I never know what to say on occasions like this falls off the stage and dies
There could be no better gift to a woman than some lore, so if you want an explanation who are these people or just some meta, it’s under the cut👇🏼
Long story short, it’s all Ukraine, just at different points in life:

*I didn’t include soviet Ukraine because technically, literally until the moment that is shown on the drawing, that is what she was. So as of 1991, she still looks more like soviet Ukraine than her present self. Didn’t wanna draw twice.

(Doomspiral) I do have Ivan begin as muscovy yes, and essentially "eat" Novgorod out of envy and basically contract General Winter from her as a curse (with Winter as a protective force for her in contrast).
RUSSIA EATING NOVGOROD IS PEAK WHAT. I had the idea of it being just murder but this captures it so much better. I like the element of envy in it. Novgorod massacre and everything. ohmygoewd.

Your take on Ivan & serfdom is really interesting especially considering that the way serfdom/slavery developed in Russia is rather different from other slave-owning countries exactly because the slaves and the masters were from Russians’ own nation mainly (as well as sold to tatars/islamic countries/even western europe but that’s less and different); the lines between slaves, peasants, serfs and just poor people were blurred, many readily sold themselves into slavery, which is interesting in the context of what you said about the Nation himself being such. Influencing his vision of freedom [its worth, its lack] in many senses. Also, the fact of just how late serfdom was abolished. And how the notion of [virtually unpaid labour with being tied to a master] carried on into Kolkhos system in USSR. Having said that, – 2 questions, how do you interpret the times when Russia was under Mongol rule/influence and how do you interpret…his role in USSR in general?
Anon I'm kissing your hands very politely rn.
I do go into this in Call To Alms but naration is different from analyzing it. I actually have him getting taken to Mongolia to the Horde's then-current base city (at work dont have my notes) as Erdene (Mongolia's rep) guest and protege. Ivan is still basically a state serf whos been sold/ordered into military service for the Horde which as u likely know was also common, tho it was in service to the Russian empire. When he comes home from Mongolia he remains in service to the crown as a soldier but i think some rank jumping would occure due to his status as a Rep.
This does blend into his time in the USSR since I think they allocate a portion of his time to collectivized farm work, which already holds a form of nostalgia and familiarity for him. I don't think he resents it. He's a peasant boy at heart after all, the only thing he ever resented was the lack of safety, stability, and dignity, which are systematically better (in his area) than serfdom. Its always important to note he is Moscow before he is Russia or the USSR/Russian SSR representative.
#okay okay now this is interesting i like this.#i like making him collect taxes for mongols XD#the last sentense is intriguing and i wonder if this is because he was (i wonder if started as?) moscow–>muscovy

@artist-kili i feel like i already tagged u under something like this but i’d like to reiterate it
Every unhinged fic writer needs an equally unhinged friend who "yes ands" their ideas and encourages them to write all their most far fetched and insane stories.

I am quite annoyed at the fact that I don‘t remember who said it so I can‘t repost it, but a while ago someone made a really good take on interpreting certain nations‘ independence days not as their birthdays – because many existed long ago before what is now celebrated as an independence day. And then someone added how yes, it is even much more interesting to consider different nations' attitudes to their important national holidays. And I nodded enthusiastically reposted and agreed.
You know how Ukrainian (restoration of) Independence day is in four days and I‘m thinking of this again
