Interior with Woman Reading, Moor Thatch (c.1932) painted by Dorothy Hepworth aka Patricia Peece Dorothy Hepworth and Patricia Peece met in 1917 and were together until Peeces death in 1966. While both had studied art, it is believed that many, if not all, paintings attributed to Patricia Peece were actually painted by by Hepworth. Hepworth was extremely shy and preferred not to appear in public so Peece, with her consent, took credit for them. This practice continued even after Peece died.

Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas arriving in New York, 1934

Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas met in 1907 on Toklas's first day in Paris. Both writers, the soon became a power couple in the artistic world of Paris, hosting salons with regular attendees including Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ezra Pound, and many more. The couple remained together until Steins death in 1946. After Steins death Toklas, in need of money, wrote The Alice B. Toklas Cookbook, a book that mixes reminiscences and recipes. The book is most known for it's recipe for Haschich Fudge, more commonly known as Marijuana fudge.

Patrons enjoy Le Monocle, one of the earliest and most famous lesbian bars of the 20's and 30's. The name, Le Monocle, came from a trend adopted by the lesbian community of the day, to sport a monocle along with their tuxedo and cropped hairstyle. Wearing a monocle as a woman in those days was a little bit like flying the gay flag. The bar was located in the Montmartre district of Paris.
