Anyway to my fellow Cloti fans, don't get Twitter. This is coming from someone who's only been on FF7 Cloti Twitter for a month and I've seen so much stupid shit these past few weeks that I'm having such a hard time processing everything that's happened. Tumblr is so much better because the tags and search are filtered better and you wont come across any anti comments unless they come into your ask box. You all are amazing. Even if we haven't met, I love you guys. Don't let anyone get you down ❤

thinking about how the promise came to mean so much more to Cloud than to Tifa even if it’s Tifa who made Cloud promise in the first place…we already see Tifa saving Cloud even before the Lifestream scene and i–
the promise that was made when they were kids?? we already know how Cloud’s hero journey started because of that and how the promise practically became a way for Cloud to get his identity back…but for Tifa?…
when Tifa asked Cloud to make that promise, she meant the typical “being rescued by a hero” way, period!! but as Tifa grew older, she’s learned to take care of herself and not rely on others to save her, the promise really took less importance (or maybe even more??) the stronger Tifa became
ofc, come Nibelheim incident, Cloud did actually save Tifa (in a way i guess??? he just moved her to the side lol) but only Cloud knew this, Tifa wasn’t aware that Cloud was there soo
Tifa’s has probably been like that for yeaaars, so much so that Tifa probably thinks she doesn’t need that promise fulfilled anymore, she thinks she doesn’t really “need” saving anymore, she probably even thinks that Cloud needed more saving than she does (doesn’t necessarily mean that Tifa thinks that she’s the only one that could save Cloud, just that something is clearly wrong with Cloud and that he needs help)
even so, there’s still a part of her that wants to be saved. when Cloud mentioned the promise, Tifa said she didn’t mean it like that, this is not the type of “saving” she meant. Tifa hasn’t been “un-saveable” just yet
the lowest point for Tifa in the game is when she loses Cloud. Tifa has been “losing” for most of her life, one by one, and all that’s left of her was Cloud. Cloud’s like the compressed version of her memories at this point and losing even that?? Tifa breaks down (plus Sephy just straight up uses Cloud to make Tifa doubt herself even more)
THAT was the time Tifa needed actual saving, and it could only be done by Cloud, because Cloud is the only final living thing she has that she can call her own. and i see this as something Tifa decided for herself
I’ve always thought of it as Cloud needing Tifa more than Tifa needed him but…Tifa being the only one that can save Cloud is set up the same way that Cloud is the only one that can save Tifa.
they both lost their hometown, their families, even the newest relationships they made got taken away too (Avalanche, Aerith, Zack) both of them have lost everything, they only really have each other left
Cloud and Tifa’s reliance to each other grew as the game progresses but most of it happens emotionally and mentally and I just love how you only see it in it’s totality in the Lifestream
i just want to say that Cloud and Tifa are each other’s personified proof of existence

FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE (2020)
Long ago, we looked upon a foreboding sky. The memory of the star that threatened all burns eternal in our hearts. In its wake came an age of silence. Yet with each fond remembrance, we knew those encountered were not forgotten. That someday, we would see them again. Perhaps it was no more than wishful thinking. But after the long calm, there are now the beginnings of a stir… The reunion at hand may bring joy. It may bring fear. But let us embrace whatever it brings. For they are coming back.
At last… The promise has been made.

Let’s Talk About that Wholesome Marlene Reunion
I gotta say, after having kids of my own, any scene that has moments with kids in it hits harder. My husband said the same thing.
When Aerith goes to get Marlene from Seventh Heaven in Chapter 12, it’s emotional. My daughter is around Marlene’s age. Hit right in the feels.
At least you know Aerith saves her before the plate drops. I also appreciated that plot hole filler to explain HOW Aerith was taken by Tseng.
Then we have the start of Chapter 13 where Barret is beside himself. He’s broken, he’s just lost everything, his friends, his home, and he thinks he’s even lost his daughter. It’s a great scene and Barret’s VA did an excellent job of portraying the pain in his voice. This isn’t going to be an in depth post, it’s more of a light, fun, look at what Cloud and Tifa are doing back there type of thing.
Luckily, this has a happy ending. Barret is reunited with Marlene (even though he scares the shit out of Elmyra) and it’s wholesome, so I took screenshots. And yes, this is more of a Cloti post because the way those two act in this scene is adorable to me.
He realizes she’s alive and upstairs. And yes, he needs to wear sunglasses or we would get lost in his eyes. I love Barret - loved him in the OG and they just made him even better in the OG. He’s a passionate dude and wholesome.
So he goes upstairs and sees his sleeping little girl and you forget, for a moment, that Chapter 12 happened. It feels nice, something good happened.
Then I spotted these fun things:
Cloud looks happy. Of course Tifa is happy. But Cloud has that adorable happy look on his face. I replayed this part a few times cuz I enjoyed seeing him being happy for Barret and Marlene. Character growth, folks.
Cloud looks much softer. I enjoy Tifa’s closed eye chibi smile sometimes, so I left it. I also love the fact that they’re looking in on Marlene, and we know they end up being guardians for her in AC.
Tifa looks at him and then makes sure he stays quiet, which is quietly agrees to. I dunno, this whole scene between Barret and these two makes this so damn wholesome.
GAHHH I love this shot. I absolutely adore this whole scene. I love that they allude to the ACC family with this (minus Denzel).
Bonus: What was the point of them shooting out to these two during Barret’s talk with Marlene… I mean, they did this random Cloti shot in A LOT of parts and it was random, but I’m not complaining.
Tifa looks content as hell. I tell myself they’re secretly holding hands. (Note, this is not proven or canon, I can’t see what their hands are doing, so I can imagine what their hands are doing.) I can’t really explain Cloud’s expression here.
Cloud looks a bit more serious here. Getting geared up to go? Thinking about how he can improve his hug game? Maybe Al and his flowers? Or the fact he saw Aerith as a ghost? Did he remember to turn off the stove?
