The more time passes the more I feel the need to defend Ashley Willams. Like I don’t even like her that much (mostly because ME3 really lets her down story wise) but it’s so incredibly frustrating to see people lose their minds over her. ‘She’s racist! She said that thing about not being able to tell the aliens from the animals! The only good Ashley is ash!’

Just absolutely ridiculous. It took me a while before I could even play ME1 (ME2 was available for PlayStation for years before ME1 was) so I was expecting a horrible racist character but instead all I got was a character with well grounded distrust of foreign governments and who starts out with a bad habit of letting that distrust effect how she sees people but grows beyond that. Ashely HATES the ‘human first’ groups ! That’s literally canon in ME1 where she rips into a dude for daring to think that she’s on their side!

Ugh it’s plain sexism for her to get THAT level of hate. Everyone is racist in ME1.

During development of Mass Effect 1, Noveria’s Aleutsk Valley had several encounters and enemies that were eventually left on the cutting room floor. 

This particular set of leftover dialogue, where Shepard is ambushed in Aleutsk’s tunnels after either a tunnel door or the Mako itself is sabotaged, was probably intended to be a cutscene with a few dialogue choices for the player. The assassins were sent by Saren and Shepard’s renegade responses to them are a highlight.

Do you love Mass Effect? Are you a fan of asari?

I’ve been working on building a small Mass Effect Discord server that is highly focused on lore, worldbuilding, and open discussion. It’s geared toward those who are eager to talk about finer details and themes of the games, as well as hopefully to provide some inspiration for those who are content creators. Like it’s namesake, Afterlife tends to be be asari-heavy, with most people being Liara fans/romancers. Even with a large asari population, it is of course not limited to just them!

actual tip for new tumblr users

don't use double quotation marks ("like this") in your tags if you're talking in the tags- it'll format it wrong and mess up what you're trying to say by taking whatever you put in the quotes and kicking it to the front of your tags. so for example, if you're trying to say

#you'd have to be an idiot to believe that "there's no such thing as greenland" #smh

it will format as

#there's no such thing as greenland #you'd have to be an idiot to believe that #smh

if you want to use quotations in the tags, i would recommend just using single quotes instead ('like this')! i'm not sure why tumblr does this, but it's very odd and it's been a problem for years.

N7 Day 2022: On the Next Mass Effect -

"Since we last spoke about the next Mass Effect™ game, pre-production development has been proceeding very well. The team, comprised of Mass Effect franchise veterans as well as some amazing new additions to BioWare™, has grown steadily! They’ve been hard at work crafting new characters and locations that you’ll love, as well as revisiting many that you’ll remember.

This year, we wanted you to meet some of the people leading that work, so we’re putting a spotlight on four of the team’s leads for you to get to know a little better. With every game we make, pairing new talent with veteran developers has provided us with fresh perspectives and ideas, not to mention skills and experiences built from across the industry.

One day, when we’re ready, we’ll have more to share on the next Mass Effect, so thank you for being a part of this journey with us. It’s exceptionally exciting for the team and we’d love to continue sharing glimpses of what we’re working on with you in the future.

As our team on the next Mass Effect game celebrates today with you, they wanted to leave you with one final message from the Project Director of the next Mass Effect game, Mike Gamble:

In the nearly 15 years since the release of the first Mass Effect, the biggest reason we still love working on it is the warmth, dedication, and passion of this community.
