I will never ever ever get over just how beautiful they made him. Even when he was corrupted by Darkness he is still so pretty. And I know like…Space Elf okay they have to be beautiful. But damn man they really cranked it up for Uldren and later Crow. And I have always wondered…why?

Why make him look like this? I wonder sometimes if it was to help us resonate with him after his rebirth.

Not that I think there is any world where Crow won against Jinshi, but I would like to say that the images chosen did not help. Like Jinshi looks so breedable and Crow is just. Standing there. Not breedable at all. But this image? Like look at him

Oh this is a much better picture, I agree! For characters I don't know, I usually just go with the picture that is sent to me (which was the case here), but I can definitely see the appeal more with this image of him.

Ace of Spades

Perk: Memento Mori - Reloading after a kill loads magazine with a few extra-damage rounds. Grants radar while aiming down sights.

Trait: Firefly - Precision kills with this weapon increase reload speed and cause target to explode, dealing Solar damage to nearby enemies.

Masterworked Trait: Funeral Pyre - Firefly deals more damage while Memento Mori is active.

Ornaments: Last Hand, Salute to the Colonel, Big Blind, All In, The Vanguard Dare

Origin & Description: Ace of Spades is (was) the signature weapon of Cayde-6, a famous Hunter and member of the Vanguard, the loose organization that sort-of governs the Guardians. Voiced by Nathan Fillion, Cayde-6 had that classic easygoing cowboy persona and the name “Ace of Spades” plays squarely to that Wild West roguish mystique. But reading Cayde’s lore book reveals that the name has far deeper meaning. As an Exo (an android of human complexity) Cayde-6 had not one but two rebirths: once when the original human Cayde had his mind transferred into an Exo body, and again when he died and was resurrected as a Guardian. Cayde-6, like most Guardians, remembers little to nothing of his own past, but when his Ghost resurrected him Cayde found a small journal next to his body that he appeared to have kept before he died. In it he found references to the human life Cayde had lived before becoming an Exo, the wife he’d left behind, and his son Ace. Though he had no real memory of either of them, Cayde-6 began writing more entries in the journal addressed to Ace. He held on to the idea of his long-gone family as his moral anchor, his safeguard against straying too far across the line. When Cayde-6 faces down his final death at the hand of Prince Uldren Sov in the Prison of Elders, he raises his weapon for the last time and whispers, “I’m coming home, Ace.”

Ace of Spades was stolen by Uldren after killing Cayde, and is recovered by the player after they assist in killing Uldren. The gun was severely damaged in the meantime and the player must then follow a series of quest steps to repair it.

Ace’s trait “Firefly,” a more powerful version of the standard weapon trait Dragonfly, is named in honor of Nathan Fillion. Its perk, “Memento Mori,” is Latin for “remember you will die.” The phrase has a long history in art & literature as a symbol of mortality. In-game it alludes to how the player characters, Guardians, throw themselves into foolhardy situations knowing that if they die they can be resurrected - right up until an enemy manages to snare their Ghost the way Cayde was trapped & ambushed in the Prison of Elders. Even the immortal warriors can be killed. Out-of-game it echoes the permanent death of Cayde-6, one of the series’ most popular and long-running characters; if Cayde-6 can die, anyone can.

Ace has the most ornaments of any exotic weapon, with a solid five: “Last Hand,” “Big Blind,” “All In,” “Salute to the Colonel,” and “The Vanguard Dare.” “Last Hand,” “Big Blind,” and “All In” are minor cosmetic changes that echo the gambling theme; “Last Hand” also refers to Cayde’s death (his “last hand”) while “All In” is linked to Trials of Osiris and changes color with the special glows awarded to Trials winners. “Salute to the Colonel” changes the ace on the barrel to a chicken silhouette in honor of The Colonel, a pet chicken Cayde-6 adopted during the Red War when the Vanguard were displaced from the Tower. Yes, he had a pet chicken. After spending a couple years living in the nook Cayde once occupied, famous Titan and known bird-lover Saint-14 proclaimed her a “Pigeon Lord” and presumably cares for her in a manner appropriate to her station. With the vaulting of older destinations and content at the start of Year 4, Ace lost its acquisition quest and can instead be picked up for a pile of materials at the Tower’s Monument to Lost Lights.
