Sorry I kind of dropped the ball on Mudskiptober - I’ve been a bit distracted with my personal life and I’m better at remembering to post these on Twitter, but I have been keeping up, just about. Here’s a special omnibus edition of days 4-11! I experimented with a bunch of media this week but mostly watercolour and Derwent Inktense pencils

Day 2′s prompt is “Tranquil” and since I’m aiming for some degree of continuity between drawings, it turns out one species’ poisonous flower is another species’ calming incense

It’s that time of year again: Inktober, and to fill the void between chapters 5 and 6 I’m doing it with the cast of Mudskipper this year! I guess that would be... Mudskiptober? Inkskipper? Eh, I’ve got a whole month to figure it out

Yep, Katsuko’s got that right: it took a while, but chapter 5 is finally complete!!! I’m pretty proud of my work on this chapter and I’ve been looking forward to crossing this finish line for some time.

What I haven’t been looking forward to is announcing this: Mudskipper is now on indefinite (but definitely temporary) hiatus to give me a chance to write and thumbnail chapter 6. I’ll admit that during chapter 5, there were a lot of weeks where the actual art came dangerously close to overtaking the thumbnails, and it really taught me the importance of having the entire chapter thumbnailed before committing to a weekly update schedule - I know the wait will suck, but it’ll benefit the comic and your reading experience in the long run, I promise. I’ll at least aim to finish the thumbnails and start updating again by January 2019 - I can’t say for sure how long this next stage of production will take, but what I do know is that taking a break from making finished pages will let me come back refreshed and more into it than ever.

Mind you, there is one thing that opens up the possibility of more Mudskipper content very soon: Inktober is just around the corner, and even without that, there’s no rule against me drawing the crew outside of the comic proper. Yep, Ikki’s telling the truth up there: we have indeed hit 200 pages, and just three days after the comic’s fourth anniversary too! I wish I could keep celebrating long into next week, but I’ll be busy then: I’ve befriended an author and am collaborating with them to bring their script to life as a storyboard so I can have an up-to-date portfolio piece, and while it’s a low-pressure thing they expect it to be at least partially finished by the 25th. To accommodate this deadline, I’m going to skip next week’s update and instead post chapter 5, page 51 on the 27th of August. Thank you for patience though four years and counting!
