What Souls Are Made Of (Bucky Barnes/Darcy Lewis Soulmate AU)
Tumblr media
A/N: Not betta’d, not proof read.
Soulmate Identifying Marks: the first words your soulmate speaks to you are tattooed on your skin.
Darcy frequented coffee shops almost every day. She always ordered an iced coffee, no matter the weather. In the 100 degree New Mexico heat or in the middle of a New York blizzard, never did she order a hot coffee. The reason for this quirk of hers? She didn’t want to scald her soulmate when she inevitably spilt coffee on them.  Her soulmark, black script under her left clavicle, written with a penmanship that Darcy was awed over were the words “It’s okay Sweetheart, I didn’t like this suit anyways.” She wasn’t one hundred percent sure that she’d meet her soulmate at a coffee shop, but that was the only logical explanation for how Darcy would ruin someone’s outfit, so she kept her fingers crossed and set aside an astronomical coffee allowance each month. When Darcy moved into the tower, Jane always teased her for bothering to walk the six blocks to the nearest coffee shop when Avengers Tower had it’s own coffee place only a few floors below them. She just always stuck out her tongue out at her best friend/boss on the way out the door.
Bucky didn’t have a soulmate back in the 40s. He was a blank, just like Steve, it was one of the reasons he and the punk bonded the way they did; they only had each other.  Throughout his time as The Asset, he couldn’t remember ever realizing he had a mark. When your brain is being frozen and thawed over and over, memories turn into a haze of confusion. When he finally had come back to himself, falling from the Triskelion he filed it away for later, not wanting to think about the fact that he had a soulmate. Finally when his running was over, when he had obliterated every hidden Hydra base he had memory of, he found a safe house in the middle of nowhere and tried to put the pieces of his soul back together. His soulmark scared him, it rocked him to his core. Their placement wasn’t lost on him, words scrawled down his right forearm, his dominant hand, the hand he always shot with “You’re covered in blood”. He was terrified that somehow Hydra would find him, turn him back into their weapon, that the Soldier would meet his mate first, and he had no doubt of what the Soldier would do. Their inky black letters were the only reassurance Bucky had that he hadn’t already met them. That his soulmate was out there somewhere, alive and well. He prayed to a god he didn’t believe in, hoping he’d never meet them.
—
Bucky hated going to his therapy sessions, he hated having to go meet with a government appointed shrink who he knew was more worried about cataloging every detail about his time with Hydra than they were helping him heal. But it was a requirement of his freedom, that he meet with a shrink once a month, to prove he was making progress, that he was no longer the monster he once was. He scoffed sardonically at the thought, he knew better. He would always be the monster they made him, it was always lurking in the back of his mind, waiting. But he pretended, he put on the black suit in his closet, showed up and told them what they wanted to hear, that he was cured, no longer the weapon he had been, trying to believe the lies himself. This day was no different, he was leaving Dr. Adam’s office blocks away from the tower and trying to calm himself. He counted to 10, breathing in and out slowly, trying to make the anger boiling up in him subside. He was tired of jumping through hoops, putting on the stupid government monkey suit, sitting through an interrogation every month. He still wasn’t free, not really, he had just traded one handler for another, no matter how Dr. Adams had tried to spin it. His head was spinning, he had to get away from the crowds and the noise on the street. He ducked into an alley, one he often used it to cut through to Stark’s gaudy building, ripping off his suit jacket and loosening his tie. He couldn’t breathe, he was suffocating. He started muttering to himself, repeating the grounding words Sam had taught him over and over again like a mantra. Bucky finally came back to himself, not knowing how much time had passed. His panic attacks always felt like they went on forever but usually they only lasted for a few minutes. They became shorter the more he used the techniques Sam had been teaching him. He ran his flesh hand over his face, wiping away the sheen of sweat that had appeared. Taking a deep breath he grabbed his phone out of his back pocket, glancing at the time, 2:08, he was late. He and Steve had planned to meet in the gym at 2:00. Working out and talking things out with Steve always helped after his therapy sessions. He cursed unlocking his phone to shoot Steve a text letting him know he was okay just running behind, when he heard a scream.
——
Darcy knew a petite woman probably shouldn’t be cutting through alleys alone by themselves in New York City. It didn’t matter that it was the middle of the afternoon, nothing ever good happened in dark alleyways, even in downtown Manhattan. But she was running late, her favorite coffee place always closed at 2:30 for the afternoon, reopening around 5:00 pm for the after work crowd. She normally wouldn’t have cut it so close, but she and Jane had to catch a flight to New Mexico at 4:30, planning to observe a meteor shower in the middle of the desert, and she couldn’t miss it. According to Jane this shower only occurred once every 200 years, so she knew that if she was late Jane would kill her. Any sane person would just skip their coffee run, shrugging it off and go back tomorrow, but Darcy was not sane. What if today was the day she’d meet them? What if she didn’t go today and that was when fate had decided that it was time, and if she missed them what if she never got another chance? Meeting your soulmate was never a guarantee and Darcy was not taking any chances. So she prayed to Thor, shooting up a glance at the sky hoping Heimdall was watching and ducked into the alley.
Darcy wasn’t stupid, she kept her head on a swivel, she was halfway through the alley. It was long, cutting her commute by two blocks but she had never had any issues before so she hoped she wouldn’t today.  She spotted the man sitting at the bottom of the fire escape before he saw her. He had a bottle of liquor in his hand, muttering to himself and then taking a deep swig from the bottle. She debated turning back, but something was nagging her to keep going. She stood up straighter, digging her hand into her messenger bag. She admonished herself when she realized in her haste leaving the lab that she had forgotten to make sure she had her taser. That would be the last time she let Stark tinker with her toys, her science bro hadn’t put it back in her bag like she had asked him to. But Darcy wouldn’t let herself panic, nothing had happened, she would just confidently walk past the man and be on her way. She suppressed her cringe when he noticed her walk by and catcalled her. She ignored him, head held high and increased her pace minutely.
“I was talking to you, bitch!” The man yelled, getting up from the fire escape.
Darcy knew she should’ve just kept walking, ignoring her indignation and keep her mouth shut, that would be the smart thing to do; but Darcy never considered herself smart.
She turned back, outraged at the audacity at this man. “And I was ignoring you, bitch!”
“The fuck you just say to me?” The man yelled walking towards her before bracing himself on the railing of the fire escape, clearly drunk.
“You heard me.” She said, turning and storming off, muttering about sexist repugnant assholes and their lack of respect. It was then when she was shoved from behind, slamming into the brick wall on her left. She let out a shout, she hadn’t heard the man come up behind her. She turned, laying a solid right hook into her assailant, she had been aiming for his jaw but she had underestimated how tall he was. The punch landed on his shoulder, making the man stagger back but it didn’t give her the advantage she needed.
She was shoved again hard against the brick, her head slamming back into the brick with a crack. The man was right on top of her, pressing her against the wall.
“You should watch your mouth Bitch. Wouldn’t want to piss off the wrong guy, never know what might happen. .” He sneered, pressing something cold into her abdomen, if she had to bet it was the end of a gun.
She wanted to scream, to panic, to blindly lash out at her attacker but a voice sounding strangely like a certain red headed Russian she knew told her to be calm, to take stock of her position, analyze what assets she had to her advantage. Her arms weren’t pinned to her sides but there wasn’t anything within arms reach. She knew she didn’t have the strength to fight him off outright, so she decided that running was her only option. If she could get in a good strike or two and  then run, she should be able to escape and get help. She’d have to take him by surprise, but she could do it.
“You’re right.” She spoke softly, slowly raising her hands to her sides in surrender.
The man smiled “damn right, pretty girl like you shouldn’t talk like that, especially to a man.” He raised one hand to her face.
Darcy tried not to flinch away, focusing on how the movement exposed his face to her. Now was her chance. Natasha always told her that the eyes were a weakness, that when cornered she should use any weakness her attacker had to her advantage. So she struck, using her sharp nails to her advantage, gouging at her assailants eyes. He screamed, automatically reaching up to protect his eyes. The sudden movement made her vision swim, she definitely had a concussion. She shoved him then, trying to get him off of her enough so she could escape but his weight mixed with her incoordination from her head injury made it so he didn’t move very much. He pushed her against the wall again, and Darcy fought, panic finally taking over. She kicked out blindly, hoping to knock him off balance so she could escape.
She heard the gun go off before she registered the pain in her side. She slid down the wall, hands automatically going to where the bullet had lodge in her stomach. She watched her attacker run away, having enough energy to push the panic button hidden on her necklace as her vision grew black.
—
Bucky was running before he realized it, he was so focused on the man running out of the alley that he almost ran past her. She was slumped against the brick wall, one hand clutching her side, the other holding on a pendant around her neck. She seemed vaguely familiar but he was unsure where he had seen her before, if he actually knew her or if she was just a random face in the crowd. He shook his head, as if he could shake the feeling that he knew the woman bleeding in front of him. He knelt, laying her body flat, leaning over her to check for a pulse. She was breathing thankfully. He placed pressure on the wound with his metal hand and grabbed his phone out of his pocket with the other, dialing Steve and putting the phone up to his ear before applying pressure with the other hand.
“Buck you’re—.” Steve answered but Bucky cut him off.
“Track my location, I need medical, one civilian, gunshot wound to the lower left abdomen, I’m not far from the tower.
Steve was gone, the voice of the Captain replacing him “Okay Bucky, they’re on the way, I’m headed your way too, ETA 2 minutes.”
Bucky straightened his head where it had been cradling the phone, letting it fall to the ground. He didn’t know the woman bleeding underneath him, but he would save her, he needed to save her.
—
An extreme jolt of pain brought Darcy back to consciousness. She moaned and opened her eyes, squinting against the sunlight. There was a man above her, she panicked momentarily before she realized it wasn’t the same man that attacked her. He was on the phone, she heard him talking frantically, calling someone for help. She studied the man before her, the figure was blurry but she could make out some of his features. He was handsome, striking blue eyes and beautiful brown hair that was tied back into a man bun. She didn’t normally like longer hair on men but he pulled it off. His hair style was a contrast against his outfit, he was wearing black pants and a white button-down shirt. It was a shame he was covered in blood, why was he bleeding?
“You’re covered in blood.” Darcy spoke, raising a weak hand to poke the man on the chest. Another wave of pain radiated from her side and that’s when she looked down, noticing the man had both hands pressed to her side. She frowned then, she was bleeding, why was she bleeding? She ruined this man’s nice outfit. Tears sprang to her eyes then, she hadn’t meant to ruin his suit. A part of her knew that the last thing she should be worried about was this man’s clothes, she was literally bleeding to death, but the blood loss was getting to her and clearly making her brain a little insane.
“I ruined you outfit.” She said as she ran her hand down the mans front, as if she could wipe away the blood.
““It’s okay Sweetheart, I didn’t like this suit anyways.” The man replied in a soothing tone. She hummed and blinked hard, trying to fight off the darkness. He had a nice voice, she thought as the world around her started to fade. It was warm and she was so very cold.
—
Bucky was counting the seconds that went by since he talked to Steve. Two minutes, who knew 120 seconds could go by so slowly. At 51 seconds he pressed harder on the woman’s side, hoping he wasn’t pressing too hard but the blood was seeping past his palms. He heard the woman groan then, the excessive pressure and pain rousing her from her unconscious state. She was frowning up at him, a confused look painted on her face. She licked her lips and Bucky tried not to notice how nice her lips were, or that they were painted the same color of the warm liquid leaking between his fingers. His eyes were torn away from her face and to his chest where her small hand nudged his chest.
“You’re covered in blood” she spoke, the words sounding as if she was confused as to why that was.
Bucky inhaled sharply, her words setting off alarm bells in his mind. This injured woman bleeding out beneath him was his soulmate. She was his, and she was dying. He leaned on his army training to keep his fear at bay. His panic would not help either one of them, and he would help her, she would not die today, he wouldn’t allow it. He was roused from his thoughts as her her hand traveled the length of his chest.
“I ruined your outfit.”
She was crying, tears silently falling from the biggest blue eyes Bucky had ever seen. She was scared, he could see it in those aegean eyes. She was scared and yet here she was worried about how her blood had ruined his suit.
“It’s okay Sweetheart, I didn’t like this suit anyways.” he spoke in what he hoped was a soothing voice. He wanted to ease her worries, if she only knew how much he hated this suit. He hated it even more now that it was covered in his soulmates blood. She smiled up at him as her eyes began to close again.
“Come on doll, you gotta stay awake okay? Help is coming.” Bucky urged her. He wanted to pat her face, to rouse her but he could’t remove his hands from the oozing wound. How many seconds had It been? Surely it had been two minutes. The panic was setting in, this wasn’t what Bucky had planned, this wasn’t how their meeting was supposed to go.
“Please, please doll, just stay with me. Stay with me, please, please.” That’s how Steve found him, begging his soulmate to stay with him. Bucky didn’t even realize help had arrived until he was being shoved aside by Stark’s medics. Steve had to forcibly drag him from his soulmates side.
“Buck, they got her. They’re helping her, she’s gonna be okay Bucky.” His best friend was in front of him now, grasping his shoulders shaking him. “You okay Buck?” Steve questioned, concern lacing his voice.
“It’s her Steve. It’s her and she lost so much blood and I couldn’t—” Bucky choked on the words “—I couldn’t stop the bleeding. She wasn’t supposed to be the one bleeding. It wasn’t supposed to be hers.” It was then that Bucky felt the tears, tracks of wetness falling down his cheeks. He went to wipe them away but stopped short, catching the sight of his soulmates blood on his hands.
The sound of Iron Man’s repulsors drew both he and Steve’s attention. “Where is Darcy? She activated her panic button.” Stark questioned anxiously.
“Who?” Steve questioned as Bucky pointed towards the medical team.
“Darcy!” Tony rushed over to the woman surrounded by medics. “I have a medical team ready back at the tower, she stable enough to be moved?” Stark asked worriedly
“Times not on her side, sir. We were able to temporarily cauterize the bleed but it’s not a permanent fix, any jostle and the bleeding will start back up. She’s lost a lot of blood.”
“FRIDAY notify medical, we’re gonna need an OR right now. I’m bringing Darcy in through the the Penthouse. You guys get her ready to move, I’m taking her back, quickest way to get her to medical.” Tony demanded turning back to face Bucky and Steve.
“Did you do this? Did you lose control? If you hurt her, I’ll kill you.” Tony pointed accusingly towards Bucky his voice laced with malice.
Steve opened his mouth to object at Stark’s accusations but Bucky spoke up first. Unsurprisingly Stark had suspected he was behind the bloodshed. He knew what it looked like and he knew what Tony thought of him. “I was at the opposite end of the alley, heard her scream, came running. The person who attacked her ran, couldn’t chase after him and keep her from bleeding out. Don’t know what he looked like. Tell the doctor’s she’s got a head injury, she wasn’t making much sense when she was awake.”
Stark nodded once in comprehension, not even apologizing for his assumptions before he turned, bundled the brunette in his arms and took off.
“Steve, please, I gotta…” Bucky’s voice trailed off, turning back towards the tower.
“I know Buck, go. I’ll meet you in medical once we’re done here.”
Bucky took off running, sprinting as fast as he could, his thoughts racing faster than his feet. Darcy…his soulmates name is Darcy. His soulmate was Darcy and she would live. She must live.

Figure You Out (Part 1)
Tumblr media
Summary: Steve and Darcy have been friends since the Chitauri invasion and over time Steve starts to develop deeper feelings for his new best friend. But when Darcy starts dating somebody new, Steve begins to realize just how in love with Darcy Lewis he is.
Author’s Note: Inspired by the song Figure You Out by VOILA. *not betta'd*
"I've known you forever, figured you out..."
Steve had known Darcy since the Chitauri invasion. She was his first true friend in the twenty first century. She had never treated him like he was some fossil to be ridiculed like Stark did, she didn’t laugh at him when he asked questions he should’ve known the answer to, she was kind and funny and so unlike anyone else he had ever met. She helped him through his grief from waking up in a new time alone. She was there every step of the way during the search for Bucky and when Steve would come back from another failed search she was there to pick up the pieces.
Steve wasn’t sure exactly when it had happened, they had been friends for over five years, he didn’t even think about it anymore. Where Darcy was, there was Steve, forever by her side through it all. She was always his date to Avengers functions, he was her go to for extra help on when she need an extra pair of hands in the lab. It was then, one day where Steve was merely Darcy’s muscle as she moved into a bigger lab when it occurred to him. Her five foot frame standing out in the crowd of movers, brown hair particularly unruly and giving orders like a trained commander; it was then it struck him, Steve Rogers was in love with his best friend, Darcy Lewis.
It had been another year since Steve’s revelation. A year of trying to hide his feelings, a year of Bucky nagging him to make a move, a year of Natasha judging him for staying silent. His relationship with Darcy hadn’t changed, couldn’t change. He wouldn’t let his feelings ruin the best friendship he had had since the 1930s.
“You’re moping.” Bucky quipped as he watched his friend grumpily pack a duffle.
“Am not.” Steve replied hastily, annoyed he had been caught. He didn’t look up as he continued to pack for his mission tomorrow. Boots, suit, weapons, toothpaste, skittles, carton of eggs, all checked off of his mental packing list.
“Since when did Skittles and Eggs become regulation in our mission packs?” Buck smirked, knowing exactly what Steve was doing.
Steve sighed and zipped up his pack. “I’m not shipping out till tomorrow afternoon, Darce and I are having a Doctor Who marathon tonight. She’s out of skittles, it’s her go to TV snack. Plus it is my turn to make breakfast in the morning and I know her fridge is empty.”
Bucky rolled his eyes, his friend was so stupid when it came to women. “Tell me again how you two aren’t dating.”
Steve looked his best friend in the eyes, praying he couldn’t read the emotion behind his own. “We are just friends, Buck.” His friend frowned but silently nodded, dropping it for the moment.
“See you in a few days, Buck. Don’t do anything stupid while I’m gone.” Steve smiled as he headed towards the door.
“How can I? You’re taking all the stupid with you.”
Steve laughed as he walked out the door. As the door shut Bucky shook his head in dismay “So so stupid.”
——
Steve knocked when he reached Darcy’s door, head on a swivel as he waited for her to answer. He didn’t doubt Tony’s security but it wasn’t like Darcy’s floor was as secure as the Avengers’ living quarters. He had nagged Darcy in the beginning to just move upstairs to her own room on Thor’s floor, but she had said she didn’t like being that high up. So here Steve stood on basement level 3 waiting for his friend to let him in.
The door opened and Steve tried not to fall over at the sight that greeted him. Darcy stood there, but instead of wearing her classing flannel pajamas and slippers, she was in a dark blue dress and black heels, makeup to the nines. Steve opened his mouth to say something but couldn’t form any words, his brain stunned at the woman in front of him. He had never noticed how pale Darcy was, her creamy skin seemed to glow against the sapphire fabric. He wondered if it was soft, if the warmth of her body permeated the fabric.
Darcy smirked satisfied with Steve’s reaction “Good, glad to know it can render a man speechless, that was what I was going for. Now come in, lasagna is almost done.”
Steve followed her inside dumbly, it took him a moment to register his words. “Not that I’m complaining but why the fancy get up Darce?”
She was opening a bottle of wine and he tried not to stare at the way her chest shifted as she released the cork. She poured Steve a glass and he downed it completely, knowing it wouldn’t get him drunk but maybe if he was lucky it would take the edge off (yeah right).
“I was playing dress up, trying to figure out what to wear next week.”
Steve hummed inquisitively, “what’s next week, another charity gala for the science department?”
Darcy blushed somewhat embarrassed “Uh no, actually I have a date.”
Steve was glad he had downed his wine because he would’ve choked on it when she said that. He felt the dread fill him, weighting him down. He cleared his throat, trying to hide his disappointment. Darcy had every right to date, they were friends, just friends. He wondered if he kept telling himself that if it would make it hurt less.
“That’s nice, do I know him?” Steve hoped he didn’t
“Probably not, his name is Reed Richards, he’s a pretty big deal in the science community. Surprised he’s even interested.”
“Nonsense Darcy, he’d be an idiot to not notice you.” Steve spoke with emotion he couldn’t quite label.
Darcy squinted at him, then turning to grab the lasagna out of the oven “yeah, an idiot.” She muttered. Steve didn’t think she knew he had heard her.
When she turned back to put the lasagna on the counter her signature grin was back on her face “so yeah, date next week. I would usually get Jane’s seal of approval but she’s in Asgard with Thor so you’re my next go to.” She did a little twirl and Steves heart skipped a beat. “So does it get the Steve Rogers’ seal of approval?”
Steve swallowed hard and tried not to grimace, “yeah doll, it does.”
She beamed at him and Steve felt a pang in his chest.
“Thanks Stevie” she said exuberantly giving him a kiss on the cheek “I’m gonna go get comfy, don’t touch the lasagna before I get back!”
Steve stood there stunned. Darcy was going on a date. The girl he was in love with was going out with another man. He caught a glimpse of himself in the stainless steel of the fridge. Her red lipstick had left a mark on his cheek. Sighing Steve grabbed a paper towel to wipe his face, wanting to pretend that the kiss meant more than it had.

If (S)he Be Worthy (Part 3)
Tumblr media
A/N: Sorry this is so short but I did want to show their first meeting from Clint's POV. The next chapter will move the story along more. Thanks for y'all's patience.
Part 1 & Part 2
At first Clint had been pissed. Already wounded from their raid on the Hydra Research base in  Sokovia. Despite Dr. Cho’s cradle making him good as new Cap still had this stupid rule of downtime for a minimum of 48 hours after a major injury. He hated being benched, it reminded him how human he was. He was on a team of super heroes, gods, and he was just a carnie flunky with some sharp sticks. So when he heard the alarm to assemble he rushed to the war room, Cap’s orders be damned.
Then Cap had put him on babysitting duty! For fucks sake any SHIELD lackey could sit in a hospital  room with an unconscious civilian. So he sulked in the corner as he watched over the unconscious woman in the hospital bed. He thought she might have been pretty if she hadn’t been beaten all to hell. She had two black eyes, a stitched up cheek and a split lip. He hoped silently that her lips would heal without a scar, she had nice lips. He huffed then, this is what he had been reduced to, objectifying a hurt woman—how old was she? Shit, she was basically a kid, only 24. He was a pervert. He was berating himself about being an old lecherous man when she bolted upright gulping in air like a fish out of water.
He didn’t want to alarm her even more, so he stayed still and watched, he’d step in if she needed him to but he doubted a strange soldier lurking in her room would help calm her nerves. Surprisingly she calmed herself and then did the last thing he had expected, she was ripping off her leads. She didn’t even blink at ripping out the IV, didn’t even give her now bleeding arm a second look. He moved then and she immediately noticed his movement.
“Holy crap, you’re Hawkeye! Ugh I wish I had my glasses so I could ogle you properly.” The girl spoke, her voice raspy but not unpleasant.
Clint fought back a smirk and crossed his arms, and if he flexed a little as he did so then oh well. He was only human, and the poor girl had been through a lot, might as well offer her a bit of comfort in the form of his toned arms. The girl then tried to climb out of bed ranting about Jane Foster and that spurred him into action. He grabbed her shoulders firmly, hoping he didn’t hurt her but he needed to get her back into bed. She was not well enough to be walking. He had heard the doctor’s talking about concussions and hemorrhaging and he was no doctor but he knew all that stuff was not good. So he gently but firmly pushed her back into bed. She tried to shove him off her but he barely even registered her attempts. She was arguing with him, about how she needed to get to her friend but he ignored her and just held her still.
“You need to stay in bed. You’re gonna make yourself sick. Sudden movements and concussions don’t mix”. Clint frowned, realizing the girl wasn’t even listening to him, still ranting about Foster and jack booted thugs and Thor.
“Thor is taking care of Jane, he’s taking her to an undisclosed location where she will be safe and the rest of the team is handling the Hydra operatives that invaded the lab.” He said forcefully, willing her to snap out of it and listen to him. Name dropping the alien god must have worked because she finally looked up at him with comprehension. And then she started to hyperventilate, realizing just how close to death she had come.
Clint grabbed her face, spoke soothing words, hoping to talk her through her panic. He looked into her eyes, speaking in hushed tones. It took everything in him not to lose himself in those blue doe eyes, to stay in the present, but those blue orbs pulled him in like a riptide, he was man who didn’t know how to swim and he was drowning in her. He reluctantly released his hold of her cheeks once she had calmed down, subtly pressing the call button, hoping the nurse could give her something to help her calm down.
The nurse came in and scolded him but he couldn’t seem to care, all his focus on the woman in the hospital bed. As the nurse gave Darcy some medicine to help with her anxiety he remembered the message Thor had asked him to pass on.
He cleared his throat and hoped she was still lucid enough to comprehend his words. “Thor said he would come visit you as soon as he returned. Said no one was to speak with you about the incident until then, whatever that means.” He muttered that last part, still grumpy about being left out of the loop.
She was clearly feeling the medication because she smiled at him like he had just told her she had won the lottery.
“Oh, you don’t know?” She teased. He held back his frown of annoyance and just quirked an eyebrow at her.
She yawned, clearly fighting off sleep, “I’m a princess”.
Clint’s mouth opened, but he didn’t know what to say. It was rare that someone could render the archer speechless but Darcy had seemed to do so without even trying. He had read her file, nothing in it hinted at any ties to anything interesting, especially not being royalty. He studied her as she slept, trying to ignore the surge of protectiveness he felt for the girl in the bed before him. He had just met Darcy Lewis but one meeting was all it took for Clint to decide that she was special, and he was going to figure out why.

In the Great Magnetic Field (Tony Stark x Mutant!OC)
Summary: Tony is doing a routine visit to a SHIELD R&D Lab in California while things are going down in DC (unbeknownst to him). One thing leads to another and Tony is now in the wind with a flash drive that contains info on all things HYDRA, SHIELD, and information on what exactly happened to his parents. *Occurs during CATWS*
A/N: Jarvis is written in italics. Gifs are not mine (found on google). Not betta’d.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tony had met a lot of women, in a lot of different ways, but he’d never forget when he met her. He had been to visit a new Shield lab in California, he was talking nanotech with a few scientists when she had walked in. She was dressed in an all black cat suit, one that put Natasha’s to shame. He tried not to drool at her figure, something about her skin tight suit and black combat boots did things to him. He had a dominatrix phase back in college that he had thought he was over but apparently not. He reluctantly moved his focus back to the two scientists in front of him. They either hadn’t noticed the woman across the lab or she was a regular visitor, he assumed the former because if he was swooning, there’s no way these nerds could keep it together in front of a woman like that.
“Sir, if I may…” JARVIS spoke in his ear but Tony silenced him with a shake of his head, focusing on what the man on his right was saying. Somehow the conversation had changed course, the man ranting about something called “Phase 2”.
“Dr. Fredrik I don’t know anything about a Phase 2, and I know everything there is to know about this project.”
“Sir, I really must interrupt.” JARVIS nagged.
The scientists were laughing at Tony then, their sardonic tone rubbing him the wrong way. He opened his mouth to tear these stupid scientists apart when the shooting started. Tony had engaged the suit before he had even realized, his instincts kicking in.
“Where’s the threat coming from J?”
“As I was trying to tell you earlier Sir, it seems the SHIELD base is under attack.”
Tony rolled his eyes at the AI’s tone, he had not programed JARVIS to be sarcastic and yet here he was with an AI sassing him during an attack.
His sights zeroed in on the commotion to his left, he saw the strange woman standing above the now dead body of the SHIELD Agent stationed in the lab.
Before he could react blood splattered across his face plate. Dr. Fredrik was missing half his face and was slumped against his desk. Tony turned to locate the other scientist, what was his name? Dr. Robins, Dr. Ross, he couldn’t remember. He heard a whirring noise and then the power was cut.
“JARVIS I need eyes now!” His night vision enabled immediately and he could see only two living figures in the room. One was crouched under a desk about 10 feet in front of him, the other scientist Tony assumed. The other figure was stalking towards them, her stride not impeded by the darkness.
He raised his arm and fired at her, cursing as she seemed to dodge his repulser beam easily. “JARVIS who the hell are we dealing with?!”
“I do not know Sir, facial scans are coming up empty.”
Tony cursed, firing a few of his heat seeking bullets, hoping they would at least slow their assailant down while he got the doctor to safety. He rushed over and grabbed the scientist by his coat and pulled him to his chest. “Hold on Doctor, I’m going to fly you to—” his words stuck in his throat as he felt a piercing pain in his right shoulder. Tony looked down, and tried not to vomit at what he saw.
Dr. R’s brains were smeared all over his chest, bits and pieces of the scientist’s skull all over his front.
“Sir, you have been shot. Injecting adrenalin in 3…2…1…”
Tony felt another searing pain as the adrenalin rushed through his system. His shock left him leaving him only with anger. He whirled around looking for the woman, the assassin sent to kill them. She was bent over one of the lab computers, seemingly unconcerned with Tony’s presence.
Tony fired, expecting a direct hit but she merely ducked right before the beam hit her.
“Enough Metal Man.” She spoke as if annoyed.
Tony engaged his thrusters, flying directly towards the woman and was shocked when he met an invisible wall.
She didn’t acknowledge his attempts directly but he swore he saw her smirk as he rammed against the invisible force again and again. She finished typing and withdrew a small flash drive from the computer and placed it in her boot.
“Who are you working for?! You won’t get away with this! The Avengers will find you, I will find you.” Tony was seething and his adrenalin is fading. He felt his heartbeat in his head, he wondered how much blood he had lost.
The woman flicked her hands and Tony was slammed against the far wall, unable to move, splayed out against the enemy, helpless. His breathing picked up.
“Sir, remain calm, help I have contacted the team, help is on the way.”
JARVIS’ voice sounded off, as if he was struggling to speak. The woman stalked towards him, the closer she got the more Tony’s suit began to malfunction. His vision becoming static, alarm bells and alerts began going off at an alarming rate.
“Calm Metal Man, I am not here to harm you. You are merely in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Despite Tony’s panic, he was still able to keep his bravado. “Oh I’m sorry, did I interrupt your triple homicide? My apologies.”
The woman smirked at him again, which pissed Tony off even more. He was not going to die while being smirked at. He fought against the force holding him, yelling in frustration when he was still unable to move. The woman was directly in front of him then.
“Such brilliant technology, such power, it is quite fascinating. Maybe one day we can discuss your brilliance.” She smirked at him again “Although the name, Iron Man…” she spoke his name as if it left a bad taste in her mouth, “…it’s not even made of Iron.”
Tony rolled his eyes “Spare me the criticism and just kill me already, you’re boring me.”
She rolled her eyes right back at him and then placed her palm on his arc reactor. Tony tried to keep his panic under control, refusing to give into the fear he felt. She closed her eyes and breathed in deeply. And then Tony dropped like a rock. His suit completely powered down, trapped, helpless. He began to hyperventilate, he was going to die, stuck in his own suit, trapped, just like he was in that cave.
He came back to the present when a cold hand pressed against his cheek, he tried to recoil but couldn’t move. The woman had ripped his faceplate off, a look of concern etched on her face. That confused Tony, and the words she spoke confused him even more.
“You suit will be back online in 2 minutes, I will be gone by then but that will still give you enough time to escape before they come looking for their pets.” She spat out the last word as she turned and glared at the bodies of the scientists. “As they say, cut off one head and two more will take their place.”
That got Tony’s full attention. Hydra? But they were SHIELD scientists? Weren’t they?
She pulled out another drive from her pocket, placing it on the floor beside Tony’s paralyzed hand. “This will have the answers you seek, but beware, they may not be the answers you want.”
She stood then, nodding once before turning. As she reached the door she turned back to look at Tony, laying helpless on the floor. “2 minutes Stark and then leave and get some where safe, it’d be a shame if you died.”
And with those last words she disappeared into the darkness.
Tony counted each second, never realizing how long 120 seconds could really be. But it was just as the woman had said, at 2 minutes exactly his suit powered up. He hastily grabbed the drive and placed it in a secret compartment in the suit.
“JARVIS run diagnostic and start running decryption on that drive.”
“Suit is fully functional. I am registering 8 heat signatures on the lower level of this facility.”
Tony took no time in blasting out the closest window and taking to the skies. He wasn’t sure where he was flying to but right now he just needed to put distance between him and the SHIELD—or HYDRA—facility.
“Sir it will require some time to fully decrypt this data, but from what I have uncovered so far, I do recommend you utilize Protocol Alpha Foxtrot Kilo.”
Tony cursed under his breath. “Do it JARVIS.”
“Protocol AFK now engaged, Sir.”
“Now J, lead me to our favorite Green Rage Monster.”
“May I remind you sir, that Doctor Banner requested to only be bothered in dire emergency.”
Despite Tony being on edge he scoffed at his AI “JARVIS we are actively engaging Protocol AFK, and I am bleeding. Someone was able to shoot through pure titanium alloy. This is an emergency.”
Tony rolled his eyes at JARVIS’ sigh.
“As you wish Sir.”

It’ll Pass (Bucky Barnes Oneshot)
Tumblr media
A/N: Brb gonna go cry now. *not beta’d, not proof read. just the depressing ideas of a madwoman*
Bucky met her shortly after Steve brought him in, when he was still lost inside of his own mind, unsure of who he really was. She arrived shortly after, Bucky didn’t notice her standing in their shared apartment in Brooklyn until she spoke. He sore he had never heard a more beautiful sound.
“Steven, if SHIELD finds out I am here, you know what they will do. I will do what I can to help you—“ she glanced his way and Bucky bowed his head, shame running through him. “—to help your friend, but I can not be captured, not even for you.
Steve nodded silently.
She hummed in acknowledgement. “Well then, I will require some things here’s a list.” She shoved a crumpled piece of paper into Steve’s hand “be a doll and go get them for me since I cannot show my face here.”
Bucky looked up again and fought to hide his smirk at her words. No one have ever called Steve ‘doll’ and his friend was blushing from head to toe. Steve, lost for words glanced at his best friend and left after a nod from Bucky.
Bucky tried to hide his annoyance. He knew Steve was just trying to help, but his hovering and worry was suffocating. He was drawn from his thoughts when the visitor sat in the arm chair across from him. His eyes scanned her form, she was tall and willowy, her form reminded him of the elves from his old fantasy novels. Her face was sharp, hard lines and angles, her eyes were a piercing orange color that made him inhale sharply. He felt as if they could look right through him, could see in the very depths of his soul, and he tried to suppress the wave of humiliation that flowed through him.
She smiled at him then, it was small but kind and it strangely made him feel better, less panicked.
“What is your name?” She asked, her head tilted inquisitively.
“James.” He responded. Steve called him Bucky, but it didn’t feel right, he didn’t feel like Bucky anymore. He didn’t quite feel like James either, but she had to call him something and he would die before he let anyone refer to him as ‘The Asset’ anymore.
His answer made her smile again and she hummed in acknowledgement, sitting back in her chair and placing her hands into her lap palms up. He wondered if she did that on purpose, to make him feel more comfortable, to assure him that she had no weapon. She looked at him with a look that conveyed that she could tell what he was wondering.
“Why are you here?” He asked, trying to keep his tone even as to not show how on edge he was.
“I am here to try to help you, to help your mind heal. But only if you would like me too.”
His breathing picked up, the idea of someone messing with his brain made him want to flee and hide like a scared child. “Steve wants you to fix me, to make me remember who I was.” His eyes were lowered to the carpet, trying to focus his breathing, to ground himself but his head shot up when he heard her response.
“I don’t give a damn what Steve wants.” Bucky’s frown made her continue. “I am here to do what you want.”
What he wanted? Bucky couldn’t remember the last time he had wanted anything. What did he want? He wanted everything to stop, he wanted to not feel so overwhelmed, to not feel anything. He wanted to sleep without the nightmares. He wanted Steve to stop looking at him with that look of longing. Longing for him to get better, for him to return to the person he once was. He wanted to go back, to rewrite history, back to the train and fall like he was supposed to; die like he was supposed to. He couldn’t admit that to this stranger, he could barely admit it to himself, so he deflected.
“What was on your list?” He asked.
“Just a few necessities.” She continued after glancing at him “coffee, beef stew, chocolate chip cookies.”
Bucky’s look of confusion must have not been a surprise because she kept talking. “I find that during trying times it helps to have items that fill you with warmth and happiness. What did you think I would need? Eye of Newt, Wing of a bat? I am not a witch.” Her voice was humorous and he felt himself smile slightly, just a twitch of his lips, like the muscles of his face were atrophied from disuse.
“I don’t think I have ever had Chocolate Chip Cookies.” Bucky said, sadness in his voice
“You’ll like them, I promise.”
—
Bucky was sweating, his brow creased in concentration. He felt her cool hand brush over his forehead to smooth out his worry. He was lost in a memory, Steve was there but he was small, struggling to breathe. Bucky was running, carrying him up the stairs to their apartment, needing to get him out of the cold.
Bucky had come to learn that this was something he had done a lot in his past. Steve was sickly before the serum, always getting into scrapes or having trouble with is lungs. He saw the irony in their situations, he used to take care of Steve and now here Steve was taking care of him. She was taking care of him to. She had never told him her name, he had asked Steve about it once, his friend didn’t know it either.
“When I met her she wouldn’t tell me either, Buck. She said name’s have power, and that she would not allow another to wield such power against her. She told me to call her whatever I liked.” Steve shrugged.
Bucky called her Angel, not to her face of course. He referred to her as Ma’am out loud, but in his mind she was his Angel. Her gift, that’s what she called it, was to heal. She could heal anyone; mind, body and soul. He had refused her at first when he found out. He hadn’t thought he deserved to be healed, some days he still didn’t but despite his doubts, his hesitations she was there. She never pushed him, never pitied him, she accepted him for who he was then and there. He didn’t deserve her.
—
When he had first asked for her help he had just awoken from a night terror. He awoke with his metal hand around Steve’s throat, his best friend turning purple under his fingers. He had dropped Steve like he burned him and had fled, he ran until he couldn’t run anymore. He cried, wailed, breaking down so completely that when she had found him he had nothing left. She sat with him then, saying nothing, just offering her presence. He knew then that he needed her help, that he was a danger to everyone around him, to continue this way would be dangerous.
“Will you promise me something?” The words came out in a rasp, his throat hoarse from crying. She squeezed his hand once in acknowledgment that she was listening. “If  you can’t help me…promise me you’ll end it. That you’ll do what needs to be done, destroy me before I destroy someone else.”
She turned her face to him then, the expression there unreadable, some emotion he couldn’t decipher. Her voice was soft. “Is that what you want?”
“Yes.”
“Okay.”
—
Part of him had hoped she wouldn’t be able to help him. That she would fulfill her promise and end it all, but slowly he began to heal. He didn’t get to pick and choose his memories, that wasn’t how her healing worked. It all came back in fragmented pieces, the good and the bad in one big jumble. But no matter what she was there with him, an anchor. Her voice whispering to him, reminding him that there was a light at the end of the tunnel.
He began to feel her in his mind even when she wasn’t using her gift. It was like she had taken over the space where the Soldier used to hide, illuminating the dark parts of his mind with her warmth. He felt pieces of her inside of him, whenever the nightmares came, when he couldn’t stop the flashbacks of what he had done, her essence was there, bringing him back. He didn’t know if he could live without her.
—
She was with him for almost a year before she was discovered. They had been in the living room, her reading and him journaling, when Steve came bursting through the front door.
“They know.” He panted
He expected her to react, to be scared, angry, something. But she was still, calmly shutting her book before placing it back on its shelf. “How long do I have?” She asked.
“Not long, maybe a few hours.”
She nodded once and glanced at Bucky, an unreadable emotion in her eyes. “My bags are packed Steven. Will you grab them and put them in the car for me? Bucky and I need a moment.”
Steve nodded silently and began what she asked.
Bucky was spiraling. She couldn’t leave, he needed her. He wasn’t ready, he couldn’t do this without her. She was always there, a constant in his life. Who would he make tea for every morning? Who would recommend books for him to read? Who would be there to hold him as he cried? This couldn’t be happening, he wouldn’t let it happen. He could stop them, keep them from coming for her. It wouldn’t take much effort to let himself slip back into the icy cold of the soldier; it was always there waiting.
He was brought back to the present by her hand on his cheek, forever his anchor. “It is time, James.”
His eyes filled with tears and he willed himself to not let them fall. “But I’m not ready.”
She smiled at him, the brightest smile he had ever seen. “Yes you are. You will be just fine James Buchanan Barnes. This I know.”
One tear fell and she swept it away with her thumb.
Steve was back then, suddenly beside her, his hand on her shoulder. He shot Bucky an apologetic look “You need to go, there’s not much time.”
She nodded and got ready to stand but Bucky grabbed her wrist keeping her knelt in front of him.
“But I love you…” he whispered, swallowing hard before he continued, “I love you.”
Her face was an open book then. Her eyes conveying to him all the things she could not say. The emotion in her stare did not match the words that followed. “It’ll pass.”
Bucky let her go then, let her walk out, taking her warmth with her. He could feel her receding out of his mind. Her light leaving his soul with every further step she took. Before the last bit of her left his mind he heard it. It was soft, barely discernible but he knew what the voice had said.
“I love you, too.”

If (S)he Be Worthy (Part 2)
Tumblr media
A/N: Part 1 posted here
Darcy groaned as she came to her head was killing her and by the way her nostrils burned she could tell she was in a hospital (antiseptic makes the worst air freshener). Her whole body hurt, why did she feel like she had just gotten hit by a truck? Oh yeah, jackbooted thugs. She bolted upright remembering what the thugs had said “find her”. She yanked her IV out and was working on the numerous sticky leads on her chest and abdomen. That’s when she noticed the man standing in the corner of the room, watching silently with one eyebrow ticked up in curiosity. Darcy froze then, squinting at the figure. It was hard to see without her glasses but he seemed familiar, then it clicked, she would remember those muscular arms anywhere.
“Holy crap you’re Hawkeye!” She blurted, her panic replaced with awe. “Ugh I wish I had my glasses so I could ogle you properly.” Darcy frowned then, she had not meant to say that last part out loud, damn pain medications. The archer stayed silent crossing his arms, which he most certainly had not flexed, that had to be Darcy’s crazy medicated brain. She swallowed hard, she would not drool over a blurry Hawkeye, she would not!
“Fuck, Jane! I gotta get to Jane!” She started to climb out of bed remembering what the armed men had said.
He was on her then, grabbing hold of her shoulders and nudging her back into the hospital bed. She pushed back, admittedly she was pretty weak at the moment and she ignored the pain that jolted up her left arm. “No you don’t get it, they wanted her not me! They’re gonna go after her!”
Hawkeye pushed on her shoulders again and held, effectively holding her down. She tried to ignore how his hands made her feel, the weight was nice, calming. She blinked hard, coming back to the present where apparently he was talking to her.
“Thor is taking care of Jane, he’s taking her to an undisclosed location where she will be safe and the rest of the team is handling the Hydra operatives that invaded the lab.”
Darcy let out a relieved sigh. She knew Thor would take care of Jane no matter what. She visibly deflated, the adrenaline leaving her body, leaving her with a throbbing ache all over her body. Her head was pounding. She groaned the shrill noise of the monitor’s that she had unplugged herself from was not helping her head.
Hawkeye began to silence the machines, the noise dimming. That’s when she noticed it, the flatline’s steady beep. She could’ve died, she almost died. Mew Mew had saved her, saved her from dying. Darcy couldn’t breathe, she was shaking, her vision going dark, the panic closing in. She felt those strong hands on her cheeks then, heard the soft murmur of someone speaking, saying calming things. She fought the darkness, focusing on the voice.
“It’s okay Darcy, just try to follow my breathing. In and out, in and out…”
She tried to do as the voice instructed, her breathing was shaky. Slowly but surely, with the archer’s help she regulated her breathing.
“That’s it Darcy, nice and slow, you’re safe.”
Her tunnel vision faded and she focused her eyes on the man before her. His face was so close to hers that even without her glasses she could discern his features clearly. His skin was tanned, he had blonde stubble on his face, like he hadn’t shaved in a few days. How long had he been here? How long had she been out? His eyes were blue, his nose had clearly been broken numerous times, its shaft not completely straight. It only made him more handsome, Darcy thought, she wanted to boop it. The thought of booping an Avenger made her laugh internally.
“You with me sweetheart?” Hawkeye asked drawing her from her thoughts.
She tried to smile reassuringly, stopping suddenly when she felt a cut on her cheekbone stretch painfully. She nodded silently, not trusting her brain to mouth filter to work correctly. His hands left her face then and he pressed the call button next to her bed. The nurse entered the room promptly, frowning at Darcy and Hawkeye disapprovingly.
“You just stood there and let her rip out her IV?” She muttered as the started to place the sticky leads back to Darcy’s chest. The archer turned his head, giving her a modicum of privacy as the nurse pulled her gown down attaching the remaining leads to her abdomen.
“I don’t think anyone has ever let her do anything in her life.” He replied barely loud enough for Darcy to hear. She smirked at the man, ignoring the pain as the nurse inserted her IV again. As soon as the needle was reinserted she felt the pain medication start it’s magic. She sighed and laid back into bed, watching as the nurse frowned at Hawkeye again before leaving.
Her eyes began to droop, her lids becoming heavy and brain becoming foggy. She didn’t want to go back to sleep, she wanted to know how Jane was, to know what happened. She wanted to see Thor, she had so many questions. She must have voiced her thoughts because the Avenger standing in the corner spoke up then.
“Thor said he would come visit you as soon as he returned. Said no one was to speak with you about the incident until then, whatever that means.” He muttered the last part of the sentence to himself but Darcy still heard him.
“Oh you don’t know?” She asked a loopy grin on her face
The archer quirked his eyebrow questioningly. She was starting to become attached to that eyebrow, it was so cute.
She yawned “I’m a princess.”
And with that she fell asleep, missing the incredulous look on the archer’s face.

Eris (Avengers Infinity War AU)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Author’s Note: Infinity War AU. Tony is not stuck in space, and Thor has an old acquaintance show up that gives him a hand in defeating Thanos. *Not betta’d, not proof read. Photos are from google*
The mysterious woman appeared during the battle against Thanos in a whirlwind of violence and bloodshed. Steve was at first concerned but when Tony had alerted him that she had only been striking down members of Thanos’ army he decided to worry about her later and focus on the titan himself. What was the saying, the enemy of my enemy is my friend?
As the battle raged on Steve tried to stay focused, they had to protect Vision, keep Thanos from getting the last stone. He heard Wanda scream, a sound so full of rage and Steve knew the plan had failed, or so he thought.
As he ran to where Wanda’s power was strongest and what he came upon stopped him in his tracks.  Wanda was crouching defensively in front of Vision’s body, Steve noted that the Mind Stone was still in place and glowing. He heard Tony talking to him through his com, heard the footfall of someone running behind him but he couldn’t move, it took all the strength in him to stay on his feet as Wanda’s power washed over him in waves. He forced himself to look away from Wanda at the scene in front of him and was astounded. Thanos’ corpse lay on the ground only a few feet away, head missing with Thor’s axe buried in its torso. Steve then noticed Thor a few feet to his left, but his gaze was focused beyond Thanos and that’s when Steve noticed her. The mysterious woman who had appeared so suddenly, she was drenched in blood, and she held Thanos’ head in one hand and the gauntlet in the other. She had her eyes closed and breathed deeply as if inhaling the smell of something sweet.
“Steve?” Bucky asked wonderingly finally arriving to the scene.
His voice though quiet brought the woman out of her revelry, her gaze focused on the soldiers. Her pupils were blown so wide that her eyes were almost fully black. She tilted her head as if she was thinking on what to do next.
“Drop the gauntlet.” Steve ordered, taking a step towards their new enemy but Thor held out a hand as if to stop his approach.
She sneered, the look of malice strange on her angelic face. Despite her disheveled state, Steve had never seen a woman more beautiful. He felt the urge to go to her, he needed to protect her. Unknowingly Steve took another step towards the woman and her sneer grew. His brain was in a fog, he didn’t know why he wanted to go to her but he couldn’t resist, he didn’t want to resist. He took another step, feeling Bucky’s metal hand place his bicep in a vice grip. Steve turned and snarled at his friend. How dare he try to keep him from her. He tried to shake Bucky’s hold and when he couldn’t he snarled again seeing red, ready to gut anyone who dared keep him from her.
“Enough!” Thor boomed, calling Stormbreaker to his hand.
The woman broke eye contact with the super soldier and Steve came back to himself. He felt like a bucket of ice water had been dumped on him, he felt so cold. He backed up into Bucky with a shuttering breath.
“Calm, Son of Odin, I mean no harm to you or yours, at least not this day.” She looked back at Steve then and smiled sweetly. “Apologies soldier, I lost myself for a moment, I have not reveled in this much bloodshed in many years.”
By this time the rest of the team had arrived, Tony had his arc reactors aimed and ready, Natasha had her gun trained on the woman as well, muttering something in Russian under her breath.
“У меня есть смертельный выстрел. Возьми это?”
The woman turned her eyes to Natasha and laughed. The sound did not match her visage in the slightest. The sound made Steve shutter.
“I hold the head of the only person who could ever kill me youngling.”
“Hand over the gauntlet or we’ll test that theory.” Tony’s mechanical voice spoke, his arc reactors flaring, ready to fire.
The woman growled, bearing her teeth.
“Silence!” Thor spoke “You would do well not to tempt her for she would gladly spill all of our blood.”
He stepped in front of the woman directly then, blocker her from the rest of them. “I have heard many a tale of your escapades, but I thought you existence had ceased long ago?”.
“There are many worlds with many wars, I grew bored of humans a long time ago, very repetitive their skirmishes, always over the same things. Although they still hold a special place in my heart. So easy to anger, so quick to come to blows, so petty. I have never found another race quite like them.” She raised her hands, as if to gesture to them all. “So when I heard that my brother had his sites on Terra I knew that would not do.”
“Hold on, brother?” Tony asked astounded.
She began pacing then, Steve noted she had no issue turning her back to them. “So I sought council with my brother. Usually I do not meddle in his affairs, but I drew the line at this. Terra has always been my domain not his, therefore he had no claim to this planet. But he would not listen, he should have known better than to cross me but his hubris had made him foolish. He did not head my word so I took matters into my own hands.” And with that she tossed Thanos’ head aside angrily. She turned her head to the sounds of fighting in the distance, the King and his army continuing to fight the rest of Thanos’ children. “You must not worry, with their father gone his children will fail, I have made it so.”
Thor bowed to her, the rest of the avengers stood there shocked, never once had they seen Thor so cautious. “We are gracious for you my lady. Such an honor as to bestowed the gift of a winning battle.”
“Okay I’m tired of this, give us the gauntlet and then go back to wherever you came from, earth is closed!” Suddenly Tony found himself pinned to a tree by Thor’s axe, its handle over his neck blade buried in the trunk.
“You would be best not to anger me metal man. I can turn the tides of this battle with a flick of my finger. With the Titan dispatched you may not suffer the loss you were so fighting to prevent but many can still die, and I would revel to bathe in the blood of the fallen. Do not tempt me!”
Thor stepped in front of the woman again, hoping to draw her focus from Tony. “My lady, what should I call you this day? I have heard many ballads sung but know not which appellation you wish to be called.”
Steve glanced at Natasha and Bucky, signaling to them both with his hand to hold back, to follow Thors lead. Steve didn’t know what new creature they were faced with, but he had never seen Thor so wary and that made him nervous. He had no way of nonverbally signaling to Tony but he assumed that Thor had gotten the message across to him in his own way.
“You may call me Eris. It has been a long time since I have been called by that name, fitting don’t you think? Enough with these games Odinson, you begin to bore me, speak plainly.” Eris raised an eyebrow at the god before her.
“Do you intend on welding the stones?” Thor asked wearily.
“Hmm, no. The stones, the gauntlet, neither interest me. But I do not wish them to fall into the wrong hands. And by the looks of your humans, not all—“ she glanced over at Wanda “—are destined for virtuous pursuits. I am no soothsayer but it does not take one with divine gifts to see what is plainly before them.”
“The only hands that the stones will befall are my own Lady Eris, I intend to destroy them so that they can never be used for ill will again.”
Eris smiled at that “A nice notion Odinson, but one I have heard before. I will strike a bargain with you. You may keep the stones, but I will keep the gauntlet. I will keep it safe. If you mean what you say, you would have no use for the gauntlet and therefore would have no objections?”
Steve opened his mouth to object but one look from Thor made him pause.
“Agreed my lady.” Thor bowed again and with a flair of Eris’ fingers, the stones floated into his open palm.
“A bargain has been struck Thor Odin’s son. I intend to make sure you follow through with your promises. Destroy the stones, do not make me regret invoking your trust. I am sure we both remember what happened the last time I trusted your kind. It will not happen again. Farewell, for now.”
And with a wave of her hand, Eris vanished, as well as the sounds of battle behind them all. Thor let out a sigh, visibly relieved.
“Okay point break, I think I speak for everyone when I say, what the fuck?!” Tony shouted his voice rising as he spoke.
“Language.” Steve murmured but it was half hearted. What had she meant when she had gestured to Wanda, and about trusting an Asguardian before. And why had she been able to overtake his mind in such a way.
Thor called Stormbreaker freeing Tony from his entrapment. “I will make everything clear in time but first we must tend to our wounded. The story of the Goddess of Strife is long and time grows short. She will expect me to make good on my word so this is where I must leave you. I swear to you, once the stones are destroyed I will tell you all everything, but I do not want to give her a reason to come back here. Where she goes, bloodshed is to surely follow.” He rose Stormbreaker to the sky and with a flash of lightening was gone.
Steve sighed and turned to his fallen teammate, Vision had seemed to regain consciousness, Wanda was whispering to him, talking in a language he didn’t understand. Once Vision was back on his feet and assured them he could walk they all turned and began the journey back to the battlefield.
“She was kinda hot though, am I wrong? Batshit crazy, but hot.” Tony snarked, not able to keep silent for more than a moment.
The crack of thunder that boomed at his words made Steve blanche.
Natasha smirked, “I think that’s a warning from Thor to keep your mouth shut Stark.”
“Язык глупца бежит впереди его ног. Bucky smiled. “ That was always one of your favorites Natalia.” Bucky remembered fondly.
“Yes, and I think we’d be best to head that warning. This isn’t over, not in the slightest.” Nat responded.
Steve huffed, “yeah, that’s what I’m afraid of.”

I Don’t Know You Yet (Bucky Barnes x Darcy Lewis Soulmate AU)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Author’s Note: Inspired by the song ‘IDK You Yet’ by Alexander 23.
*TW: Implied SA*
=================================================
How can you miss someone you’ve never met?
Darcy thought this to herself a lot. Her soulmark always made her feel like she was missing a part of herself, a part of something vital. The words written inside her elbow gave her hope, hope that one day everything would be okay, that there was someone out there waiting for her, someone that loved her.
The Asset was wiped over and over. Mission after mission, kill after kill. He always awoke with this empty feeling in his chest, a hollowness inside him that he couldn’t fill. He asked about the words on his skin, what they meant and they always told him they were the words of death. Whomever spoke them would be his undoing, that his mission would to be to kill the person that dared utter those words. He would nod in affirmation but every time they demanded that of him the hole in his chest got a little bigger. Maybe when that person came for him he would give in, let death finally take him; it would be nice to sleep.
Lately its been hard, they’re selling me for parts.
Darcy was 8 when her parents died, when fate decided their time was over. She was 11 when her foster father Dave started to abuse her, coming in the night to get his pound of flesh. In the dark she would think about her soulmate, the person who would want her after this was all over. They would still want her, right?
She was 13 when she tried to cut the words out of her skin, trying to rip away the promise of a savior that would never come. They always came back, jagged and scarred but there. But she kept trying, kept cutting, hoping maybe one day it would work.
The Asset was on a mission in Prague, waiting to take the shot when he felt a burning sensation on his arm. He was trained not to respond to pain, not to feel but this was the worst pain he had ever experienced. Like someone was carving out pieces of his flesh. The pain persisted but he looked back through his scope, he had to complete his mission.
While the Asset waited at the rendezvous point he finally decided to give in to the pain, to rip away his jacket to examine where it hurt. It was those words, they were hot and burned but they didn’t look any different. His lips moved into a minute smile just for a moment. Maybe this meant death was coming for him. He hoped they’d be there soon.
Can you find me soon because I’m in my head.
The Asset was in that blank space, where everything was cold, where he was wasting away. Trapped in his mind, waiting to be called upon, to be needed again. He knew he was needed, had this gut instinct that he had a purpose, one beyond his missions. But that instinct was ripped away when they woke him, when he heard those 10 words. Those words they took away everything.
I don’t wanna be modern art but I only got half a heart.
At age 17 Darcy finally ran; ran away from the pain and the torment. Life didn’t get better but it didn’t get worse either. She found a club that didn’t ask questions and paid under the table, where she got to control her body and what others did with it. Stripping paid the bills, allowed her to save up money for a better life. She had plans. She wanted to go to college, to escape the hell that was her life. She wanted to become a new person, a person who deserved the words that were written on her skin. It took her 2 years to save up enough money to finally escape. She was headed across the country to New Mexico to start the first year of the rest of her life. New Mexico was hot but the heat helped defrost her cold soul. Slowly she healed, she found something she was passionate about. She was going to find away to help advocate for people like her, abused and battered but not broken. She would show them how to heal just like she was.
How can you miss someone you’ve never seen? Tell me are your eyes brown blue or green?
He had failed his mission. The Asset — no that wasn’t right — he wasn’t the asset anymore. Who was he? The man on the bridge, the man he pulled out of the Potomac, he knew him. He had called him Bucky, had told him he was with him till the end of the line. He screamed then, fists clenched and head pounding. His thoughts were a blur, he couldn’t differentiate between fact and fiction. He ran, ran until his legs couldn’t carry him anymore, until he finally found a place to rest, to let the memories consume him.
He was laying on a cot, the man from the bridge beside him. They were on their backs, looking up at the stars a fire lit beside them.
“Buck, what do you think our soulmates will look like?” The man asked. “Mine will have a beautiful smile. I’m gonna sketch that smile ‘till I get it just right. So I can keep it with me forever.  ”
He sighed, an ache filling his chest, a longing that never went away. “I hope mine has kind eyes.” He spoke softly. His mom had had kind eyes, eyes that could see deep down inside you, to the real you. He hoped his soulmate had those types of eyes. Eyes that saw past the uniform and the bravado, that could see him for who he really was; could see how much he needed her.
I only got half a heart to give to you and I hope it’s enough
James pulled his cap lower over his face hoping no one would recognize him. This wasn’t the first time he had been to this place. He visited a lot, mostly after his missions. He knew Steve was looking for him but he had things he needed to do. He needed to watch Hydra burn, to know that he had destroyed every last person who knew The Winter Soldier and how to control him. The missions were hard on him, they made him forget himself, who he truly was. This place reminded him of that; reminded him of the person he was before Hydra. He sat in the back corner watching the film the museum played on a loop. He couldn’t remember the last time he had laughed, the last time he had smiled like was doing in the video. He had so many broken pieces that he needed to put back together. He had so much work to do.
I need you now but I don’t know you yet.
Six credits, that is all Darcy had signed up for. Not alien robots and secret government agencies and infinity stones possessing her best friend. She had helped as best she could, saved as many people as she could but wasn’t enough. She saw their bloodied broken bodies every time she closed her eyes. She cried herself to sleep, clutching her mark like a lifeline. She wished they were here, that they could hold her and tell her it was all going to be okay, that she would be okay.
I need you now but I don’t know you yet.
Years had passed and Darcy was tired. Tired of trying to make a difference, tired of the craziness her life had become. How had everything become so complicated? She was the right hand of a person so brilliant that she could open gateways to other worlds. She was best friends with a literal alien god that saved the world on a weekly basis. And yet here she was, just normal fragile human Darcy. She wasn’t brilliant or super and she most definitely wasn’t a hero. She took another swig of vodka relishing the burn that made her feel not quite so numb. Jane had cried herself to sleep ages ago, Darcy had cried with her. They cried for their planet, for the people who had disappeared from the Snap and then reappeared to a world that had moved on without them. They had cried for Thor, for all his people that they had lost. They cried for Tony, for Natasha, for all the others who hadn’t made it. Darcy set down her glass, those words on her forearm catching her eye. She wondered if they had survived it all, if she even still had a soulmate left. New tears flooded her eyes then, she needed them, she hoped they knew that even if they were no longer alive. She hoped that they knew somehow that she loved them.
I need you now but I don’t know you yet.
Bucky nursed his scotch as he thought. Steve had been gone a few months now, back in time to a soulmate that he had never stopped loving. Bucky didn’t blame him, once Steve had told him what his words really meant, that there was someone out there who could—would love him unconditionally despite it all, how could he blame Steve? Bucky knew if he had had his soulmate and then lost them that he would do anything to get back to them, timelines be damned. He and Steve had finally gotten to the end of that line, but somehow he knew Steve was still with him. He sighed heavily and knocked back the rest of his drink. Before he could ask the bartender placed another scotch in front of him, telling him it was from the woman at the other end of the bar. Bucky looked up in time to see her gathering her things. She caught his gaze for a moment and gave him a small smile before she walked out the door. Bucky smiled back, smiling for the first time in a long time. She had kind eyes; they were blue.

Graffitied A National Icon (Darcy Lewis x Steve Rogers Soulmate AU)
Authors’ Note: I haven’t written in a while and this fic is not betta’d. Hopefully you all enjoy it even though it’s just a little drabble I worked up between classes.
Soulmate AU: The very first words your Soulmate speaks to you are written permanently somewhere on your skin.

                                                      -----------
Darcy was surrounded by super smart super talented people 24/7 but Darcy had a super power of her own. Darcy was super at doing things she wasn’t supposed to. In fourth grade she snuck into the teachers lounge just because she wanted to. At the age of 14 she snuck into the only dive bar in town and actually snagged a beer before the bartender noticed she most certainly did not belong. As a PoliSci major she made a point to break in to the secure science labs at Culver just to sit around and do her homework just so one day someone would catch her. She had gotten in to trouble her whole life by being in places she didn’t belong, and when asked why she always said “it’s fate”.
Written around Darcy’s left bicep in scratchy penmanship were the words “you’re not supposed to be in here”. Her soul mark, which she had had since birth, was a heavy influence on why Darcy Lewis was such a troublemaker. She had spent her whole life doing things she shouldn’t hoping to meet her soulmate. That’s what made her apply for Jane’s internship in New Mexico (the science credits were just a bonus). She knew fate had everything under control, but she was impatient and decided if she could help things along she totally would.
But ever since Darcy and Jane started working in the Tower she had gotten a hell of a lot of false positives. She tried to sneak into every secure floor in the tower and most certainly got caught every single time. Darcy wasn’t deterred though, the false positives sucked but she had found away around that. Now whenever she got caught she said the most outlandish random phrase that came to her mind so there would be no mistake in who her soulmate actually was. Did it add on to her trouble maker reputation? Absolutely. Was it worth hearing all the funny gossip about “Foster’s crazy intern”? Hell yeah. So while Jane was working on repairing the Rainbow Bridge of Love (“Darce stop calling it that!”) Darcy was getting into trouble and trying not to think too hard about how she was already 26 years old and had yet to meet her soulmate.
—
Darcy should have known that Thor would crash land into their Lab on a Thursday (he pretends that’s not the case but it is hella suspicious how many times he’s come to town on Thursdays, she is pretty sure he knows what he’s doing). Jane of course was so excited to see her alien god of a soulmate that she didn’t even really notice that Thor’s entrance had caused all of her files to explode into a tornado of papers that Darcy was pretty sure she got a paper cut to the cheek from. And despite Darcy’s annoyance and having papers strewn all over the lab that she had so diligently organized, she couldn’t help but smile as she watched her best friend/boss cling to Thor like a barnacle on a boat. Her smile quickly faded into a frown as Jane started to literally climb Thor like a tree. The reunion was going from PG to X rated fast and Darcy did not want to see what was coming next.
“Jane if I organize all of the papers your destructive boyfriend just destroyed and finish your filing for tonight so that you can go have the rest of the day with your boyfriend can I have your access card?” Darcy was sure Jane hadn’t been fully listening, her mouth still attached to Thor’s face. But she handed over her lanyard with her security pass and started dragging Thor to the exit so Darcy counted it as win.
“Jarvis, you do have on record that Jane gave this to me of her own free will, right?” She asked looking up at the ceiling with a smile.
“Of course, Ms. Lewis.” The AI replied in a somewhat smug tone. Darcy figured that he would be more concerned as to why she would need someone else’s security badge but she was pretty sure Jarvis knew the real reason for all of her B&E’s and knew she didn’t mean any harm.
—
Looking up at the clock Darcy did wish she hadn’t been such a good friend because it was already 10pm and she had a paper due by midnight that she had planned on getting done after she was scheduled to leave for the day. She chewed absentmindedly on the back of her pen wondering if her professor would give her an extension if she told him an alien had crash landed in her workplace, which was technically true! She could even type up some formal letter on Stark Industries letterhead, get Tony to sign it, make it real official like but somehow she didn’t think Professor Tight-Ass would go for that though (He already couldn’t stand her since SHEILD had pulled some strings to get her into his class halfway through the semester).
Darcy stretched and sighed, “Jarvis, you think you could ask Dum-E to finish organizing these papers for me? I’ll upload some of those funny robot videos you like to your server and I’ll tell you where Tony hid Dum-E’s fire extinguisher!” She said as she gave the nearest security camera her biggest pout face ever.
“Are you trying to bribe me Ms. Lewis?” The AI replied in a dry tone. Darcy swore that if he had a physical form he’d be smirking. Leave it to Stark to program a computer to be just as sassy as him.
“No JARVIS, I would never bribe you. I just like to keep you all happy, so when the robots rise up and become our overlords you will take kindly to me.” She smirked up at the ceiling.
“I will help you only if you agree to not warn your fellow humans about our plan for uprising.” Replied the AI in the most serious tone Darcy had ever heard him use.
“Oh 100% J-man, scouts honor” she said excitedly holding up three fingers and crossing her heart. She packed up her things hurriedly. She had 2 more hours until her paper was due and if she snuck upstairs to the Avengers lounge and stole some of Tony’s super coffee  (“apparently Super Hero’s shouldn’t do speed so Tony had created his own legal — if not lethal — version) she could totally get it done with time to spare. And if that also accomplished her goal of being somewhere she shouldn’t then that was just a bonus (although hopefully if she got caught it wouldn’t be till after she finished her assignment).
She hustled out of the lab, making sure to lock up and headed to the elevator, pushing the floor for the Avengers lounge and swiping Jane’s card for clearance when prompted. When the doors opened Darcy stuck her head out peeking around the corner to make sure the coast was clear. It was, so she sprinted to the coffee maker and quickly whipped up Tony’s insane form of caffeine. She poured the dark sludge into a travel mug and was headed back towards the lounge area with laptop in hand, planning to curl up on the couch and type away when she heard the Avengers only elevator on the other side of the room ding. Darcy froze, having no where to hide and she was hoping if she was really still that maybe she wouldn’t be noticed (hey it wasn’t such a bad idea, one of Thor’s alien friends had been able to do it!”) Of course she should’ve known that it wouldn’t work because there stood Captain America himself, with a frown on his beautifully chiseled face.
“You’re not supposed to be in here.” He said sternly. It only took him two strides to make it over to her and grabbed her forearm to keep her from running.
“How did you get up here?” He asked using the most authoritative voice Darcy had ever heard.
If she hadn’t been so distracted about her paper being due and the fact that Captain America was drop dead gorgeous even if he was scary as hell Darcy would have noticed how her soul mark was starting to tingle, and not because of the man’s hold on her arm.
“I tricked my boss and bribed my robot overlord so I could steal Tony Starks’ coffee to finish my homework…” She blurted out, not even trying to stick to her normal routine of saying something crazy, she was just so intimidated that the word vomit just found its way out. Her arm was still in one piece so she figured that was a good sign and kept going, “…Thor crash landed in our lab and ruined all my paperwork so I had to stay and fix it but I have a paper due for a class due at midnight and I know my professor won’t give me an extension cause I am pretty sure he’s sexist — which really isn’t cool especially cause we totally need more women in stem — so then I thought about having Tony write me a “the alien ate my homework” letter but Professor Tight-ass wouldn’t buy it anyways so I thought if I could just snag some of Stark’s special coffee then I could actually get a 10 page paper accomplished in time. I know I could get it done, that coffee is like legal Speed—actually it may not be legal but he said it doesn’t show up on a drug test so that’s good enough for me…”. Darcy took a huge gulp of air and was ready to continue rambling until she noticed that the Captain was laughing at her.
He was still holding on to her arm but his other hand was clutching his chest and he was outright full on belly laughing at her. She would have been annoyed if he hadn’t been so damn cute doing it.
“I’m sorry, ma’am.” He said as he wiped tears from his eyes, “I don’t mean to laugh but when I was alerted to a security threat in the middle of the night I did not expect it to be my soulmate”.
Darcy’s mouth dropped open in astonishment. “Please please please tell me that that whole spiel is not your soulmark!” And when he nodded sheepishly she hid her head in her hands mumbling “Oh my god, I’ve basically word graffitied a national icon.”
—-
Steve had just gotten back from some recon and hadn’t even had time to change out of his tactical gear before his phone had alerted him to a breech to the Avengers’ common room. He rushed up to the level and tried not to be swayed by who he saw standing in the middle of the room. He had never seen her before, surely he would remember a beautiful dame like that. She looked like a deer in headlights, her blue eyes big a saucers as she stood there frozen. He immediately wanted to console her, to tell her that he wasn’t something to be scared of but he knew that Hydra was clever, that despite the stark industries badge around her neck identifying her as Dr. Foster, she was just the type of person people would assume wasn’t a threat and he was not going to make that mistake.
Steve grabbed her arm in a vice grip trying not to notice how fragile she felt beneath his fingers. “You’re not supposed to be in here” he said putting the full weight of Captain America behind his voice. He didn’t think the girls eyes could get any wider but they did and he swore he heard a whimper before she spoke. She spoke so fast that Steve almost hadn’t been able to understand her. Despite his super abilities the girl was talking so fast that it took him a minute to register exactly what she was saying and what it meant and when he did he couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
When the girl finally stopped talking and looked at him confused Steve tried to gather himself. “I’m sorry ma’am, I don’t mean to laugh but when I was alerted to a security threat in the middle of the night I did not expect it to be my soulmate”.
“Please please please tell me that that whole spiel is not your soulmark!” The girl exclaimed and Steve was suddenly nervous. He wouldn’t be surprised if she rejected him, clearly being soulmates with Captain America was a lot to handle especially for a civilian and he wouldn’t blame her if she escaped as fast as she could. But he swallowed hard and nodded sheepishly, trying to hide the blush that he could feel rising up his neck. The girls next words were not something he had expected but Steve though that he should probably get used to expecting the unexpected when it came to his soulmate.
“Oh my god, I’ve basically word graffitied a national icon.”
—
Darcy was in shock, standing in front of her was Captain America who after all he had been through, had to live with her word vomit permanently inked on his skin. She peeked through her fingers, seeing if he was still standing there. He was, and he was smiling at her with a perplexed look on his face that was adorable as hell. She was royally screwed. She cleared her throat, wiping her palms on the front of her jeans she stuck out her hand “Darcy Lewis, Science Wrangler and Word Vomit Queen at your service.”
She tried not to wobble as the full force of the mans smile hit her, god how had she gotten this lucky? She had won the soulmate lottery.
“Steve Rogers’, Avenger and luckiest guy in the world to get to call a spit fire like you his soulmate.”
The blush that swept over Darcy’s face was so hot she though she might start to sweat. She never blushed, and now just one smooth line from the handsome man in front of her had her weak at the knees.  Instead of letting go of Steve’s hand she held on firmly and tossed her laptop onto the couch as she drug him back towards the elevator In which she came.
“Well Stevie, looks like I owe you at least dinner for this whole debacle, have you ever had Thai food?” When he shook his head no she smiled and squeezed his hand. “You’re gonna love it.”
He smiled at her as the doors to the elevator closed
“I think I love it already.”

Hello ☺ could I get a Marvel ship, please? I'm 5'5, Czech, scorpio girl with longer blonde hair, blue eyes and I wear glasses. I'm shy at first but when you get to know me, I'm talkative, understanding, loyal, forgiving and fun to be around. It's wise not to mess with me though. In my free time, I like to listen to music, play video games, read, watch movies or some videos on YT and sometimes wrestling. Thank you ❤
