Long hair is peak!!!! ALSO- i was initially like “hehehe what if i gave them all long hair for the sillies😱” but now im kinda thinking- what if it was also for camouflage?? That seems cool right? Idk it was an idea.

Ooooh, with Erina as the sole human I can imagine she'd be a marine biologist perhaps? It would be so cute if she and Jonathan were mutually curious about each other, Jonathan is so eager to tell her all about the underwater world and she's excited to learn more 🥺

Either that or she could be a surfing instructor, I'm just picturing Jonathan tackling her off her surfboard after he mistakes her board for a "strange creature" that was "attacking" her 😭

How about- marine biologist who loves surfing??? Also i adore the dynamic of marine biologist/merman you’ve come up with!!! It’s sosososo cute!!! Maybe Erina decided to move closer to this beach shortly after getting her degree because of “weird shark sightings” that intrigued her. I’d like it if her family were still doctors, which would mean Erina would have even a bit of experience nursing or something idk it just seems weird to completely take away her nurse attitude. BUT VERY COOL!!!

Jonathan attacking her board to “save” her is so sweet my boy is looking after his girl AUGH- they make my heart scream in agony i love them.

maybe mer! Speedwagon's hair is shorter because he got his hair tangled in a fishing net and Erina had to cut some of it to free him 😭 and that's how he's convinced that not all humans are bad 🥺

Speedwagon also being a merman who's friends with Jonathan. At first, he's afraid when he realizes Jonathan is meeting with a human but Jonathan reassures him that Erina means him no harm.

Speedwagon would smell human on Jonathan and that would tip him off!!! His sense of smell is never really used and it’s so goofy!! I don’t think it would take that long for him to warm up to Erina though because she’s cool. I really want to write like a comic strip of Jonathan introducing Speedwagon to Erina BUT IM WORRIED i haven’t written any kind of comic in years other than like stupid doodles I WILL TRY THO!!

This reminded me of a previous ask which said speedwagon would be a sailfish!! I started sketching some stuff to see if I’d get anywhere but the colours of a sailfish are throwing me off a little bit im not sure what to do about them. ALSO!! In case anyone is wondering- his hair is shorter because he has the big fin in the back and i want it to be visible but i might just keep his long luscious locks because it’s so iconic. I’m really glad so many people like this au!!

Merman Jonathan in Erina's bathroom, completely unaware of human things.

"What is this square thing? It tastes terrible?"

I KNOW I DONT REALLY DO THIS BUT I REALLY WANT TO SHOW YOU WHAT IM DOING CUZ IM JUST REALLY HAPPY WITH IT!!!! I redesigned merman!Jonathan a lot (oops) and Erina got a couple of tweaks as well- but here’s what I’m working on so far!! Yippee!!

Imagine if in the Mer AU Erina lives in a small house some distance away from the beach and every morning she goes and meets merman! Jonathan by a small cove on the shore and they talk and give each other little gifts and whatnot.

One day however Erina oversleeps and Jonathan is so concerned that something might have happened to her and he straight-up crawls all the way to her house and drags himself across about a football field's length of sand and grass and gravel, and she just finds him on her doorstep with his elbows and tail scraped up by the ground 😭

"Thank Neptune you're okay, Erina! I was worried!"

"Jojo?! What are you doing here? You'll dry out!!! And...you're hurt!"

He ends up having to stay in Erina's tub for some time while she treats and bandages the cuts and scrapes on his elbows and tail and gives him a somewhat stern talking-to to not ever put himself in danger like that again 😂

AWWWWWW!!! They’re such saps i love them both so sosososo much!! Erina in nurse mode is peak omg she’s such a goober. You using Neptune as a replacement for “god/goodness” is actually interesting because it’s making me wonder what sort of beliefs merpeople would have. This also mighhht sound stupid but Neptune is a Roman god, what if merpeople had contact with the Romans way back then. OR- if they were in contact with the Greeks because Poseidon came first right?? I’m not a huge mythology guy but i think thats how it went right?? I might be focusing on the wrong thing here-

These merman!jonathan asks are slowly turning the cogs in my brain for another piece. I didn’t really put that much thought into the au I literally just jumped on the mermay bandwagon but you guys keep coming up with such cool ideas!!! I’m gonna start doodling some ideas tomorrow!!!!

I love your merman Jonathan design but there's one way to make him just that one bit cooler and prettier: what if his little white spots were bioluminescent? And maybe he also has glowy dots extending to his upper half? He'd be like a starry night sky 🥺

I had to google what bioluminescence was before I responded im a little silly. PEAK IDEA OMG BECAUSE NOT ONLY IS IT REALLY COOL HERE BUT LIKE- YOU SAID THEYD BE LIKE STARS. AND HES A JOESTAR. ITS GENIUS!!!!!!

I had dots going up his whole body but the blue was so light you basically couldn’t see them oopsie.
