Been a while (:
Music has been wild in 2016, huh? lmao Shrek the Musical is on netflix and that caught my attention so hard. That cast is soooooo talented. It’ll blow your mind. They are so connected its WILD. Daniel Breaker plays that gayest most amazing Donkey. Voice like butter.   Slaytton Fosters performance is obviously flaw free trust me. That trio.. those harmonies.. just okay!? i loved it. Trust me.
ANYWAY Some music to check when your chillin or whatever you do lol Top 5?
-Ultra light beam by Kanye. You already know this is the greatest track ever. Kanyes BEST. Chance the Rapper ripped that verse to the bone. Production is out of here.. KELLY PRICE.
-Needed Me by Rihanna. You know, i havent done much homework on this song and i really need to know who is responsible for this. This melody is soooo smooth. It’s a song that makes your body move. Its powerful. Rihanna fits so perfectly. this shit goes hard.
-Pt.2 by Kanye. I JUST WANA FEEL LIBERATEDDDDDAHNANA. This is like nothing I have ever heard. Kanyes a fucking genius and I hate him for it. UGH.
-Best Friend by goddamn Young Thug. THIS MAN RUNS THE UNIVERSE. This new style of rap is weird I know but you cant deny that it goes down in the DM. lmao This shit goes hard. His ad libs on this track specifically makes me cackle. His flow is fucking fun. Young Thug is not a human... We’re convinced. Go bestie.
-Church - Bj The Chicago Kid, Buddy and Chance the Rapper. I love this song. His voice is really velvety. Its so real to me. Mister the Rapper is RIDICULOUS. His flow is nasty as shit on this one. Have I said congrats on being a dad!? Congrats, lol
Bonus: M’$ Asap and lil wayne. They weNT OFF. Wayne went the fuck off. Best verse he ever did. seriously...

Ryan’s Best Albums of 2015
Disclaimer: I usually find it pretty unfair and impossible to compare and rank albums, or music in general. But I’m a habitual list maker so its inevitable for me, given how much I think about music. Also, this doesn’t necessarily reflect my personal tastes with these albums, cause if I based it purely on how much I listened to them, the list would be pretty different. This is more based on how I feel entertainment, emotion and personality, creativity and artistic value, and devotion and time put in all culminate in each album. Also, my opinion is completely meaningless. ANYWAYS....

Soundtracks are important.
So, I can not stop listening to the soundtrack of Perks of being a Wallflower. It’s the perfect blend of tracks. It just makes me feel so relaxed. It has artist like The Samples, XTC and DAVID FUCKING BOWIE. He always makes me feel so alive lmao. Especially the song thats on the soundtrack... HEROS! You cant tell me you dont feel like you are standing on a mountain when you hear that electric guitar hit a high note.  David Bowie is cool as hell.

Time to rant about  new music some more.
Two of the newest albums I’ve been getting into are Beauty Behind the Madness by The Weeknd and  Rodeo by Travi$ Scott.
BBTM by The Weeknd- This album kinda surprised me. I really dig it. Really really dig it. And the more I listen to it, the more I enjoy it. It’s catchy, I find songs from it stuck in my head that I wouldn’t even initially consider catchy. This is one of those albums where there is something I enjoy about pretty much every song at one point or another. Even the songs that aren’t my favorite, there’s something. “Real Life” is an awesome opener. “Losers” might be my favorite, with that chorus dance jam, and the total jam at the end. I dig “Tell Your Friends”, it has a nice subdued attitude to it. “Often”/”The Hills”/”Acquainted” make an awesome series of songs that I think of as one world, or scene or movie or however you may see it, and each get stuck in my head. “Can’t Feel My Face” is fantastic. “Shameless” king of reminds me of boy band type stuff almost, or some really early Ryan Tedder acoustic stuff. “Angel” kinda does too. The rhythm of “Earned It” is fucking tight. The music of each song develops as it goes, the production is pretty great. Some of the mixing is kinda ehh, but that’s nothing new these days. Fantastic album regardless.
Rodeo by Travi$ Scott- I’ve only listened to this album a few times as of now, so its too early to give any detailed analysis yet. But I can definitely say I really enjoy this album. There is some stuff here and there on it that I may not enjoy that much, or I feel is too much, but everything else makes up for it. The music is really eclectic and dynamic, most of the songs have a lot going on, and quite a few parts too them. What really amazed me about this album was how, during a song, one subtle thing will be added or taken away and all of the sudden its a completely different world of a song. And these songs definitely create some pretty interesting worlds. I’m not the biggest fan of some of the more “turn up” or hype moments of the album, I really enjoy the subdued and kinda vulnerable stuff. I mean, I do dig “3500.” And “Maria I’m Drunk” has some fire, some via JB. My favorite though is “90210″ as of now definitely. Really enjoy that melody. I dig “Apple Pie” too. “Antidote” has a catchy melody to it as well. “Flying High” is pretty tight. I respect this guy cause he definitely has vision, and seems pretty unwilling to sacrifice it. I would say this album is like a combo of Yeezus, earlier Tyler and some Kid Cudi all in one. Which is a pretty cool combo when you think about it. It’s melodic and abrasive and emotional. The mixing of it is pretty awful in my opinion, loud and compressed and the vocals are gigantic a lot of the time. The hip hop industry doesn’t really support being an audiophile too much unfortunately, so it’s nothing new. I guess I should just be thankful for the ability to get this stuff in lossless quality. Anyways, great, innovative album I look forward to exploring more. EDIT: I forgot to mention, I love the album cover. Cool shit.

What I’ve been listening to lately
Psycadelik Thoughtz by B.o.B- Really digging this album. Love the live feel to it, I’m pretty sure a lot of it is real instrumentation. I’ve always been a fan of B.o.B, he was one of the first rappers I really got into, but I’ve always enjoyed his more melodic, meaningful songs and not his hype, club type stuff. Luckily this album is nothing but his melodic, meaningful stuff. Having said that, this album has plenty of fun, good vibes to it. I could hear a lot of these songs played at a block party or something. My favorite is “Hourglass”, its been constantly in my head and I’m pretty sure its been in my dreams as well. B.o.B has a nice voice in my opinion, both rapping and singing, and I love his flow. I love this whole album.
Skrewface EP by Da$H- I’ve been digging Da$H since I first heard him on “Sleep” on Vince’s Stolen Youth mixtape, I bought VICES back in the day too. I’ve always enjoyed his rapping and how he always sounds disgusted with everything, like every line he says is another way of saying “fuck you.” His beat selection has always been my one draw back with him, but I think he’s honing in on “his sound” with this EP. The beats are still kind of strange and sample based, but they sound a little more developed, and all go together a little better in my opinion. He even has a somewhat calm, zoning out while your high song in “7 Day Theory.” His flow on this EP is filthy throughout, I absolutely love it. From him yelling “YEAH SO” to start the whole thing off, to his last lines in “Mudd Walk”, he’s going in and his flow is fantastic, he’s definitely seeming a lot more focused. I’m glad to finally see the verse he dropped on that radio freestyle with Ab-Soul last year get used on “Seymour” too. I like it better over the Kanye beat though, personally. Chynna has one of the nastiest flows of the whole thing on “Highway 66,” and I love Retch’s higher pitched rapping on “Blackout Boyz.” He did a good job with this EP, excited for his album in September.
DS2 by Future. Only the mellow songs though, its the perfect soundtrack for a rainy day. Love “The Percocet and Stripper Joint.”
Currents by Tame Impala- Really dig this album, an awesome album to zone out and vibe to throughout the day. Some awesome guitar and bass lines on this one to keep your head nodding too. “Eventually” is still my favorite definitely.
I’ve been listening to nostalgia, Ultra and channel Orange a lot too, just to, you know, be ready if Frank ever actually drops this thing. Fingers crossed for tomorrow, but I’m staying quiet about it. Still listening to IDLS, IDGO almost daily, and still digging Summertime ‘06 and Barter 6 as well. I’m finally wrapping my head around Surf a bit too. Albums I’m waiting for:
FRANK, I mean come on. It’s all I’ve been waiting for since July.
GO:OD AM by Mac- This guy is a true artist and I’m excited to see what he can do now that he’s cleared his head up a bit. I’m avoiding listening to the singles just cause I want to experience it all at once. Very excited.
17 More Minutes by Da$H- Once again just to see how his beat selection is and how much nastier he can get.
Beauty Behind the Madness by The Weeknd- I’ve yet to fully get into him, even though I’ve tried so many times. It seems like the music and production on this album may be a bit more interesting, and I dig “Can’t Feel My Face” a lot. That chorus reminds me of Steve Miller for some reason and I love it. So right now, I’ll say I’m interested.
I feel like there are more but I can’t remember right now. I still think Chance will release something else this year. And maybe Earl too, which I’m excited for also just to see his new name he hinted at. But really, my mind is all about Frank’s album right now.

Random songs I’ve been enjoying lately.
Pacifier by Young Thug (fucking nuts, I love it.)
Constantly Hating by Young Thug (Yeah, thumbs up!)
Eventually by Tame Impala (sounds weightless or something)
Sleep by Vince Staples (THIS SONG GOES, DA$H IS DISGUSTING)
CNB by Vince Staples (Vince put some good shit together)
The Way by Kehlani (Still obsessed with Chance’s verse)
I’m all over the place. Still listening to IDLS,IDGO on the daily. Waiting for Frank’s album to drop. The music industry is wilding out right now. Young Thug being arrested for all types of stuff. Ghostface snapping on Action Bronson. Meek “snitching” on Drake. Drake trying to drop bombs on the airwaves. EARL FUCKING DECKING A GUY ON STAGE. How is there not gifs of that on here yet? I’d repost them all. That was actually the reason I logged into this thing. If watching Earl deck a guy in one video and then run on the beach, cheesing like a weirdo in the next doesn’t make you feel better about the world, not much else will.

Stuck on two VERY different albums...
So because I am queen of the scattered brained kids, I always find myself listening to very different music all the time. I can easily connect to different sounds and things with no problem.. but I am going to get my shit together and analyze both of them for yous guys right quick.
First to bat is MY DAWG, Active Child. GUYS. This man. Okay. Words. He obviously has a little James Blake influence but he is soooo different in so many ways. His voice, first off is honestly not the strongest voice I’ve ever heard.. He allows his voice to crack and he shows his imperfections which is sooo brave to me. His newest album “mercy” is chalk full of beautiful imperfections. His floaty and unpredictable style is to die for. He put his whole heart into this album and it is soooo melancholy but it is so unbelievably beautiful – haunting. “Darling” is my favorite on the album. It is the most simple (i LIVE for simplicity when it comes to music like this) AND TOO WONDERFUL. His lyrics and background vocals on this and every song are heart wrenching.. He brings you back to a moment when you lost your love you know? and then “Midnight Swim” happens..the most unique song I have
EVER
heard. It makes me feel feelings and there are no…words. no lyrics.. no vocals.. just music. Music that to me signifies a switch in mood… The album gets lighter? The lyrics are still pretty weighted but the music just lifts.. He’s musically really smart… and obviously classically trained because “Stranger” is something other worldly. Other really important songs are “Temptation”, “Too Late”
*open mouth sobs*
and “These Arms”
This album is intimate. This album has soul. This album is heavy with a touch of freedom. This album is gold. So beautifully done, Active Child.
Next is Grand Romantic by Nate Ruess. This is his debut solo album! Nate Ruess was the lead singer of the band fun. I’m not sure where the future of the band itself lies to be honest.. but I am really into Nate’s solo stuff. Not only is Ruess’ range absolutely bonkers but he is a real life songwriter. His lyrics are amazing… in the words of the Sandy Cheeks “..he has such a way with words ::sigh::”. Every song on here can be a hit, for sure. Grand Romantic has an underlying musical theme of modern 60s - 70s steady rock. It’s so incredibly created. Let’s start right smack in the beginning, fucking shall we? Grand Romantic’s intro is short and sweet and every choir kids fantasy. I swear. The harmony hit me like a truck and brought me right in the middle of my sophomore year of high school when we sang “Come to me, O my Love” by Allan Robert Petker… random I know.. but its less mediocre than a bunch of hs kids.. lmao. It then goes into “AhHa” which is SO MUCH FUN. It’s angsty as hell and sooooooo rock n’ roll. His voice brings me so much joy..  Anyway, this project is the epitome of being love drunk. He means every word to me in “Nothing without Love” its such a BEAUTIFUL declaration of love that whoever he wants to “rest in their light..” HAS to be swept off of their feet after this song ends. The emotion he is giving me in “Take It Back”.. (All I can literally think about is how amazing this is going to be live.. If Nate Ruess is ever in my town I’m going.) There is also killer guitar solo that will bring you to your knees! My personal favorite is “What This World is Coming To” with Beck on the assist, boyyyyy! This song is where my soul lies. It makes me feel like I am in a laying in a field of really tall sunflowers in the moonlight.. holding my baby’s hand.. not saying a word.. just.. there.. in peace..together. I’m baffled on how Nate can get his voice so high and SO ON PITCH. He’s an alien.  But “Great Big Storm”, “You light my fire” and “It Only Gets Much Worse” are other amazing songs you can listen to on this album.  Nate Ruess… May the vocal gods be ever in your favor… I hope you never get vocal nodes because my life would end with your voice. I cant wait for new music already!
I’m also super sure I’m really feeling this because I am super in love right now. Hi, Sammie! haha. <3 Get to listening to this stuff, kids! Love, Fran.

Sound+Color
Alabama Shakes ladies and gentlemen. This album blew me away. I had only heard a few songs off of their album before seeing them live at Bonnaroo. After that concert listening to this album throws me into nostalgia like no album ever could. This band has a bluesy rock soul feel to it that is vintage and very different from the direction that mainstream music seems be going.Their lead singers voice is the heart of their signature sound. It is gritty and imperfectly perfect. The type of voice to send you swan diving into your feelings without warning. I live for Brittany Howard. What sets this album apart from others with a similar sound is the complexity of the harmonies and the alternative instrumentation that perfectly accents and decorates what would have otherwise been your run of the mill 5 piece rock and roll sound. The sounds of this album are so full without being overproduced. They really managed to dress each song with just the right touchiest convey the emotion in each of the tracks. As simple as that seems not very many tracks sound like what they’re actually about so this is a refreshing change. Be prepared to sway back and forth with the love of your life in your arms during songs like the album title song “Sound+Color” and “Gimme all your love”. Howard serves you a gut-wrenching vocal on “Don’t wanna fight” I particularly love the almost beatles like feel “Dunes” has. That seems to be what this bad specializes in. Bringing you back to your old favorites with a sound that is far before their time while still managing to be fresh and current. I like to see old sounds emerge in a new time. Almost as if your favorite old school band started to make new music in this millennium. I’m hoping to see a lot more of this in more and different genre’s. Alabama Shakes bringing quality sound back for the win. “The Greatest” has a breakdown in it as a part of the hook that mimics a latin-style rhythmic progression. Really every hook that comes along has its own feel that moves the song along and gives it life. Whoever is responsible for arranging this album has for sure touched the genius juice. I definitely think this album at least in its genre is a grammy contender. Get into Alabama Shakes. this album is a game changer.
