The New Cities - Heatwave After a long vacation-break... I'm back! And to start things off, what better way to reflect on summer with a song about summer (in Indiana especially). TNC have won a few awards from the Great White North aka Canada & are trying to break into the US with this single from their 2nd LP, Kill the Lights. It's very much pop/rock and everything I can associate with being a great "summer song".  So why don't you take a break from all things 'murican, and give a salute to some of our northern neighbors, ay?

I may be a bit biased towards Brenn since they visited my uni 2x, I've interviewed them, saw them open the boxes of their first LP (The Fury and The Sound) at our radio station, etc...

NONETHELESS - These guys are super talented. They first came out with Stack of Fears a few years ago, and have had some commercial success with it, this song including (watch Keeping up with the Kardashians season 2).  

If you like Muse + Coldplay + The Killers... definitely take a listen. They're gonna do big things super soon.

Patrick Stump - This City feat Lupe Fiasco

...to think that FOB was dead!

Ok, they haven't had anything come out in awhile, but with their lead singer Patrick coming out with a solo album you would think so, with his distinguishable voice. This song isn't quite FOB, but it's interesting for sure. Lupe's rapping is super fast & awesome. And if you take time to actually listen to/read the lyrics, you can see it's kind of a "hometown anthem" for anyone who loves where they live.

The Script - If You Ever Come Back

Technically this song is a single off Science and Faith, however I've yet to hear it on the radio or see it chart in the USA ( :sadface:). It kind of has a similar feel to "For the First Time". Just an all-around awesome song.

Gym Class Heroes feat Adam Levine - Stereo Hearts

Adam Levine is on FIRE! Let me list the ways: The Voice, M5 Tour (making a stop at the lovely Indiana State Fair soon), and Stereo Hearts. Him & GCH go very well together - his mellow, yet explosive voice - mixed with the awesome beats and rapping of GCH. This will definitely be playing on my iPod for awhile :)

Pitbull - Come and Go (feat Enrique Iglesias)

I've listened to Mr. Worldwide's new album a few times - ITS AWESOME.  This song definitely had me laughing a bit after confirming the lyrics (and the loop of the angelic "ahhh's") ..just look at the song's title. Besides that, its another great club/gym/pump-up/whatever-you-call them song by Pit.

Swedish House Mafia - Save the World

It's what one might consider a "typical" Euro club/pop hit, BUT it's making some headway in the US top-40/100 charts... That says something to me.  It's got potential to be a reallly great hit over here by some of the world's best DJs (#10, #14, #16). The group also recently won "Best Swedish Group" @ the MTV Euro awards...

Also a great workout song!

Frankmusik - Do it in the AM (feat Far East Movement) I've been a bad tumblr-er(?)... However in my time I have listened to a few great songs (repetitively), starting off with this gem... Frankmusik was/has been featured much on perez hilton for awhile. Since he & I have somewhat different tastes in music, I figured this might be another one I would dislike. However, I LOVE THIS SONG. I keep repeating it. Radio stations have not :( It's very much upbeat, pop-y, and catchy, a great summer song. My fingers are crossed that it makes it way to mainstream radio for summer! It's not too late!

Rockmafia - The Big Bang

So Rockmafia is this pseudo-band-songwriting-group-producers...

I didn't watch this season of American Idol, but apparently they were some of the 'coaches' picked by Jimmy Lovine. The Big Bang is their first attempt into being the artist instead of just the writer. It's a simple song -vocals, a guitar, & drums. I would almost classify it as "chill music [Mayer, Johnson, etc] with a bit of upbeat-ness. His voice really pops against the guitar & drums.

My Chemical Romance - Planetary (GO!)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE MCR. I think I've listened to Danger Days a million times since I got it. IMO, this album BLOWS The Black Parade out of the water. Na na na na is a great single, but Planetary is awesome - much more upbeat/happier than what I would say is "typical" of My Chem but it's definitely them all thru the song.

(It's a great workout/running song too.)

Save Your Goodbye - Mike Posner

Yeah yeah yeah - he's the guy from Duke with the slight-raspy voice who's rapped with Weezy, & played at IU's Lil 5 before he was famous in 2010... but did you know? - Mike Posner has a bit of a softer side. I recommend anyone take a listen to the other songs on 31 Minutes to Takeoff, including this one. Kind of parallels to Cooler Than Me, but it's a softer/emo-ish approach.

I Just Wanna Run - The Downtown Fiction

Surprise! These guys are signed to the same label as 3oh!3 (Photo Finish Records), but don't classify them as 3oh!3.  I would say that they're kind of (atypical?) pop/rock with a smudgin of punk. I heard the song earlier this year & got it for my show because I love the "heat seekers"... And apparently this didn't heat up much to my dismay. However, I've heard "I Just Wanna Run" ALOT on TV (March Madness & FoxSportsNet fyi), so there is some promise with them.

This tumblr is dedicated to the songs you don't really hear from the popular artists... Yes, I love Top-40/Top-100, but the repetitiveness of it all gets a bit... drag (you're talking to an experience radio DJ)

-FIRST ONE- I'm Not the One - 3Oh!3

They're not just electronic/techno/pop/rap/whatever... These guys can sing. It doesn't exactly scream #1 single, but its kind of a different feel from the rest of Streets of Gold.
