MUTE 089 :: Erasure :: "Drama!" :: 1989
Erasure are an English synthpop duo, consisting of songwriter and keyboardist Vince Clarke and singer and songwriter Andy Bell. Erasure entered the music scene in 1985 with their debut single "Who Needs Love Like That". Following the release of their fourth single "Sometimes", the duo established itself on the UK Singles Chart and became one of the most successful artists of the mid-to-late 1980s and early 1990s. Vince Clarke was a founding member of Depeche Mode and sole writer of their first three singles (including the breakthrough Top 10 hit "Just Can't Get Enough"). After leaving the band in late 1981, Clarke forged an equally successful career with the duo Yazoo (known as Yaz in the U.S.). After two hit albums in as many years (1982–1983), he split with Yazoo partner Alison Moyet and briefly formed The Assembly with producer Eric Radcliffe. The project spawned a UK number four hit single, "Never Never," featuring Feargal Sharkey on vocals. Clarke then released another single with vocalist Paul Quinn, "One Day." It flopped, leading Clarke to place an advertisement in Melody Maker looking for a vocalist for a new musical project. He selected Peterborough-born Andy Bell. The origins of the band's name are unclear. One possible explanation is that in 1985, a Mute Records technician is believed to have accidentally written "erasure" on a demo tape for "Who Needs Love Like That" submitted by Clarke and Bell. At the time, the duo still hadn't chosen a name for themselves, and when they rescued the tape, they decided upon Erasure. ___SOURCE___ <!-- google_ad_client = "ca-pub-4506426359448292"; /* mute_inpost_02 */ google_ad_slot = "6213518913"; google_ad_width = 468; google_ad_height = 15; //-->

MUTE 087 :: Wire :: "Eardrum Buzz" :: 1989
Wire is an English rock band, formed in London in 1976 by Colin Newman (vocals, guitar), Graham Lewis (bass, vocals), Bruce Gilbert (guitar), and Robert Gotobed (drums). They were originally associated with the punk rock scene, appearing on the Live at the Roxy WC2 album—a key early document of the scene—and were later central to the development of post-punk. Inspired by the burgeoning UK punk scene, Wire are often cited as one of the more important rock groups of the 1970s and 1980s. Wire are arguably a definitive art punk or post-punk ensemble, mostly due to their richly detailed and atmospheric sound, often obscure lyrical themes, and, to a lesser extent, their Situationist political stance. The group exhibited a steady development from an early raucous punk style (1977's Pink Flag) to a more complex, structured sound involving increased use of guitar effects and synthesizers (1978's Chairs Missing and 1979's 154). ___SOURCE___ <!-- google_ad_client = "ca-pub-4506426359448292"; /* mute_inpost_02 */ google_ad_slot = "6213518913"; google_ad_width = 468; google_ad_height = 15; //-->

MUTE 086 :: Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds :: "Deanna" :: (1988)
Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds are an Australian alternative rock band that formed in London in 1983 by frontman Nick Cave, multi-instrumentalist Mick Harvey and guitarist Blixa Bargeld. The band has included international personnel throughout its career and currently includes Cave, violinist and multi-instrumentalist Warren Ellis, bassist Martyn P. Casey, keyboardist Conway Savage, and percussionists Thomas Wydler and Jim Sclavunos. The band was founded after the demise of Cave and Harvey's former group, The Birthday Party. Deviating from the noise rock roots of their contemporaries, Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds have a distinctive take on alternative rock that has been influenced by various genres, including punk rock, gothic rock, no wave and blues. Their early material - From Her To Eternity (1984), The Firstborn Is Dead (1985), Your Funeral... My Trial (1986) and Tender Prey (1988)—had a primarily post-punk sound. <!-- google_ad_client = "ca-pub-4506426359448292"; /* mute_inpost_02 */ google_ad_slot = "6213518913"; google_ad_width = 468; google_ad_height = 15; //-->

In 1982 they began to DJ together which led to them to form the I Start Counting project. Leonard specialised in the technology side and Baker was biased toward the musical side of the project. Nitzer Ebb is a British EBM group formed in 1982 by Essex school friends Vaughan "Bon" Harris (programming, synthesizers, drums, vocals), Douglas McCarthy (vocals), and David Gooday (drums). In the late 1970s Adamson joined ex-Buzzcocks singer Howard Devoto's band Magazine, playing bass guitar, scoring one chart single Shot By Both Sides. In 1977 he joined Buzzcocks, as a short-time replacement of Garth Smith. He played on all of Magazine's albums, and contributed to Devoto's solo album and his next band, Luxuria. He also contributed to the studio-based band Visage, playing on the ensemble's first two albums, Visage and The Anvil. After Magazine broke up, Adamson worked with another ex-Buzzcock, Pete Shelley, before joining Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds. He appeared on four of that band's albums: From Her To Eternity, The Firstborn Is Dead, Kicking Against The Pricks and Your Funeral, My Trial. After his stint in the band, he went solo, releasing an EP, The Man With The Golden Arm in 1988, and his first solo album, Moss Side Story, the following year, the soundtrack to a non-existent film noir. In 2002 Adamson left Mute Records and started his own label Central Control International. ___SOURCE___ TAGS visage album <!-- google_ad_client = "ca-pub-4506426359448292"; /* mute_inpost_02 */ google_ad_slot = "6213518913"; google_ad_width = 468; google_ad_height = 15; //-->
