One thing I love about voice of the hero is how unwaveringly loyal he is to the decider and ONLY the decider. Almost all the other voices try to take over your body at some point to make their own choices, or outright reject your decisions at times if they don't agree with it, EXCEPT for hero, even if it's not the choice he would have made, he supports your choices as long as they're YOURS.
If you try to free the princess in the first chapter, the narrator tries to control your body and he's all like "that's not fair!" But if you choose to concede with the narrator and slay her he's like "cool, I'm with you to the end"
the PATD chapter is the chapter he's most argumentative and resistant because we aren't there making the decisions, it's opportunist making the decisions. He makes it clear he does not want to slay the princess, but if you choose to go through with killing her once your back in your body, he doesn't resist. Bro is your knight and you are his commander.

Something I dont think is talked about enough is the fact that Eurylochus + the Crew left Odysseus alive during Mutiny at a serious risk to their own lives.
Remember, Odysseus is the king of Ithaca. If they'd killed him, they could have just said he died in some accident on the way home, but bringing him home tied up in ropes would have fully exposed their mutiny. If Odysseus wasn't feeling merciful when they got home, they might have been facing jail or execution for treason.
I think that really highlights just how merciful Eurylochus and the crew were being when they patched up Odysseus' stab wound. They had every reason to let him die, but they still showed him the mercy even when it could have cost them everything.

The absolute dumbest shit ever is people getting on Eurylochus for trying to kill Odysseus during Mutiny.
Like first of all, Eurylochus had Odysseus' wound patched up, a mercy that I'm really not sure Odysseus would have afforded Eurylochus had their positions been reversed (In fact I'm pretty sure he wouldnt have, given that he wasn't even willing to tell Eurylochus to hand his torch to someone else during the Scylla cave incident).
And second of all, what the hell do you call "I am not letting you get in my way!" while clearly about to stab Eurylochus with a sword? It what world was Odysseus not trying to kill Eurylochus just as hard?

Reblogging this because I just read what Jorge said in the discord about this moment, which is that Odysseus was in a "whatever happens happens mode," and because he already felt like he couldn't trust Eurylochus he wasn't willing to risk giving away his Scylla sacrifice plan by making sure Eurylochus didnt have a torch.
So yeah, he just straight up didn't care about the man he called brother dying to Scylla, and would have let him go to his death without saying a word. Odysseus getting mad at Eurylochus for giving up on making it home would take a staggering amount of audacity, given that Odysseus himself didn't care if Eurylochus made it home.
It really does make my blood boil when people demonize Eurylochus for "giving up" in Mutiny.
For one thing, it's just a really awful way to talk about someone strongly implied to be a suicidal person.
But for another thing, some Epic fans like to portray Odyssseus as being angry at Eurylochus for giving up on returning home to Ctimine. To which I respond, what fucking right does Odysseus have to judge him for that when he straight up tried to get him KILLED during Scylla???
Remember, Eurylochus was holding a torch too, and Odysseus said nothing. He would have let Eurylochus go to his death had Eurylochus not handed the torch off to someone.
With that in mind, who the hell is Odysseus to judge Eurylochus for giving up on returning to Ctimine? Odysseus certainly wasn't thinking of his sister when he was ready to let her husband get eaten by a giant sea monster.

The thing about the Scylla sacrifices vs Eurylochus wanting to leave then men on Circe's island behind is the different levels of intent.
In the case of Circe's island, they were blindsided. They were lured into a trap that they had no way of anticipating, and after that what's done is done. In Eurylochus' eyes, the witch has them now, what's done is done, and any attempt to rescue them is likely to lose them more men.
In the case of Scylla, on the other hand, Odysseus had all the foresight. He knew exactly what going through the lair of Scylla would cost, and he intentionally set his men up to be killed. He essentially pays Scylla in human lives for passage through the lair.
Even if we say that there was no other choice, there were other ways of going about it. The most important thing would be to tell the men about Scylla beforehand. That way, those who didn't want to risk death could disembark and start a new life on a different island; not everyone is willing to die to go home, and Odysseus had no right to decide that for them.
Furthermore, its the fact that Odysseus never even tried to find an alternative solution to just standing by and watching Scylla eat his men. THAT is why Eurylochus is so mad, he says as much at the beginning of mutiny.
"When we fought the cyclops, you were quick to hatch a plan And when we fought with Circe, it was you who left behind no man But when we fought this monster, we didn't take a stand We just ran"
Its not just the fact that he traded his men's lives like they were tokens, its the fact that it was his first and only plan, that he didn't even try to find a solution that didn't result in death, and just stood there and did nothing as his men died all around him.
In situations that are unexpected and sudden, you can be forgiven for acting in less than ideal ways. But when you have all the knowledge, all the advanced notice, then you have the power and the responsibility to at least TRY to find a different solution. That's what condemns Odysseus in my eyes, and why I'm willing to cut Eurylochus slack for his reaction to the Circe situation.
Odysseus had all the power, so he has to carry all the blame.

Eurylochus' Hair - Closure AU Headcanon
Based on the art I've seen, Eurylochus wore his hair tied up in a bun while he was stuck on Olympus. And a lot of the art I've seen of seen of him post-Olympus has Eurylochus with his hair down. Furthermore, someone (I think it might have been the creator of this au, but I can't find the post so I'm not sure) put forth the idea that Eurylochus' father pushed him to shave his hair when he went off to war, for safety purposes.
My headcanon is that once he gets back home from Olympus, Eurylochus starts wearing it down all the time, and lets it grow out even longer (My idea is that it would be around his shoulders when he first lets it down, and it eventually gets to the middle of his back.) The hair in the ornate bun was like a symbol of Eurylochus being trapped by Zeus, living in luxury but lacking any freedom or agency. And the shaved head was a symbol of being forced into war, and then later forced to endure all the dangers of trying to make it home.
Letting his hair down and letting it grow out even longer is a symbol of Eurylochus regaining his freedom from Zeus, and finally being able to embrace the peace and safety that he's wanted for decades.
With all this in mind, I think Eurylochus would take a lot of comfort and pride in taking care of his hair, and letting Ctimene help him tend to it.

Closure AU Headcanon
When Eurylochus returns to Ithaca, he talks to Odysseus in a very formal way. Not necessarily in a cold or curt way, but in a way where you'd never guess that they were once friends; basically, Eurylochus talks to Odysseus like they were only ever king and subject, rather than brothers. It's always "your majesty" or "my king" rather than the more friendly terms of "Ody," or even "Captain."
Odysseus would hate this, and I think he would push Eurylochus to drop the formalities and be more casual with him. The years they spent apart gave Odysseus plenty of time to reflect on everything that happened, and he hates how messed up things got between the two of them. He wants to repair their relationship and be close like they used to be, and for Eurylochus to be comfortable speaking his mind.
Now keep in mind, Eurylochus isn't trying to be passive aggressive when he does this. On the contrary, he thinks this is what will please Odysseus. He's trying to be "devout," like Odysseus told him to be in Luck Runs Out.
I think that while eventually Eurylochus does stop treating Odysseus like a stranger, it takes longer for him to fully reinternalize his autonomy in his relationship with Odysseus. His treatment by Zeus has given him a screwed up idea of what relationships should look like, and has instilled this desire to submit to those he sees as having authority over him. As his king and his former captain, Eurylochus feels like he has to place himself below Odysseus. He's also terrified of ever expressing doubt or discomfort, because he's internalized this idea that him acting on his doubt only brings pain and tragedy (e.g. the windbag).
I think this would be a big hurdle in Eurylochus and Odysseus becoming truly close again. Eurylochus hasn't moved on from the pain, but he buries his feelings and just pretends everything's alright in order to do what he thinks Odysseus wants; Odysseus wants things to be okay, so he'll pretend that they are. However, until Eurylochus confronts the bundle of mixed up feelings inside him, things can never truly be okay, and neither can Eurylochus.
On a happier note though! My headcanon is that Odysseus would eventually clue into the fact that Eurylochus is still acting like a servant, and there would be a genuine confrontation in which Eurylochus' true feelings come spilling out. It takes time, but their relationship improves from there and ends up much happy and healthier.

It's always "How dare Eurylochus call Odysseus captain after mutinying" and never "How dare Odysseus call his crew his brothers after sacrificing six of them to a sea monster."
Like, the latter strikes me as far more absurd. In Eurylochus' case, its the equivalent of reaching out for help after jumping off a cliff; he's afraid because he just did something that would seal his fate, and he's reaching out to the captain he once knew, the one that was clever enough and cared enough to get them through 10 years of war without any of their lives lost.
In Odysseus' case, he's just sacrificed six men to Scylla, and then when his crew is rightfully upset about it, he hits them with the "My brothers...why?" like tf do you mean "why" bro 😭.
Eurylochus calling Odysseus captain is a representation of the love he still has for him. Odysseus calling the crew his brothers is to me, a representation of the intense self centeredness of Odysseus in this situation, where he's too focused on getting home and ensuring his own happiness to understand that if you show that you're willing to callously send people to their deaths, then they arent your brothers anymore.

Anyone else ever see someone talking about Eurylochus/The Crew + Odysseus and you just go man. I am way too much of a goddamn anti-monarchist for this conversation.

even if you don’t care about trans discrimination, racial discrimination/violence, or support systems, please at least share this when you come across it. i need to escape
My Story: Hello there, my name is Adam and I’m attempting to move to California. I currently have a job taking care of infants in North Dakota, but between the election, executive orders, and aggression toward trans and Black people I have been subjected to multiple times in the last month alone, I’ve made the decision to move to California after living here for 13 years. I moved jobs because of poor management and bigotry, and now I am experiencing it at my new job. I was held hostage at my old job for “sounding like a man, looking like a bitch” and had to call the police. I’ve had people spit in my face and call me slurs or harass me in public and private more and more frequently. I feel within my heart of hearts that it is time for me to leave before North Dakota passes legislation to become a Christian Nationalist State (it is in progress currently, but I won’t be safe either way). I just can’t handle it anymore.
I have a place set up to live, a roommate, a job (I plan to get another one working at a nursery as well), and reliable support, friends, and allies there as well as much better protections for the trans community. I need my gender-affirming care and will be able to get that there since up here it is extremely limited. I need better support, and I have been run ragged by the Midwest and its bigotry. My mental health has begun to struggle immensely. I have constant headaches and GI issues due to the stress I’m going through with zero safe spaces or people nearby for even just a hug.
Recently, my car broke down and there are too many things wrong with it that I just can’t afford to fix. I can trade my car in, but I need $1,500 for a downpayment. Currently, I have $1,000 of it but need another $500. How much I have keeps fluctuating because I have to Uber anytime I need to go anywhere, and it’s putting major holes in my plans while I continue to need to pay for rent, bills, car insurance, and my car payment. I need a bigger car (not a two-door) to pack my things since I’ll be moving my stuff by myself, and I need to be safe while driving there. Chances are I’ll have to sleep in it between driving to my new home.
Money will go directly toward that downpayment, gas, food on the way down there, groceries for when I move in, and whatever else I have will go to rent and attempting to make my new safe space comfortable for myself. The faster I can make plans, the sooner I can leave before things get sincerely dangerous more than it already is.
Thank you for even reading this far. Any help at all would bring me closer to finally escaping to a safer place where I can be myself, have access to proper medical care, and finally breathe a breath of relief that I escaped this absolute nightmare.

time sensitive: trans girl needs to escape an abusive ex..... Hi everyone, I created this account specifically to crowdfund since my situation is dangerous & I don't want it attached to my socials. If you want more information before donating, you can reach out to me in DMs and I'll provide it. I thought my bf and I had something good but his anger issues have taken a new turn since I lost my job. It's come to the point that he is threatening me nearly daily. Today when I found out he hid my gender-affirming clothes & estrogen, I knew it was the last straw. I'm just raising enough that I can leave. I know where to go, but he's essentially "trapping" me since he needs the car for work. I plan to call an uber and go from there. Get a motel, etc. Thank you so much for taking the time to read. Here is my fundraiser.
