There’s just something about how Vanitas’s relationship with Jeanne is built on the foundation of his promise to kill her, while Vani and Noé’s friendship has made Noé into the one person that Vanitas can’t kill.

Post Vanitas Death HC (i made myself cry with this one so read at your own risk)
The last episode of vnc, and we see Noe closing up a book after writing the last word on the last page. He grabs his coat and walks to the cemetery, he stops at a grave on the hill. He places the book on the ground next to it so it's leaning against the gravestone, he smiles and says "I miss our adventures, but I think you'd enjoy reading this". And as he walks away we see the book itself and it looks exactly like the book of vanitas but it's actually Noe's memoires and he left a copy at his grave because you just know that Vanitas would've loved to read it and remember all those times with a huge smile on his face.

And don’t even get me started on the intro
Here’s a challenge that no one can actually win: Find a heterosexual explanation for The Case Study of Vanitas’ ending song lyric…

“Was it you who I’ve been searching for
Spent my life alone and waited for?
So tenderly and endlessly
You made me whole, you made me whole
And the walls I built they melt away
With every touch in your embrace
Every day, every night, every note I play
You made me whole, you made me whole...”

Thinkin' about how one of Noé's big problems is that he never really acknowledges or processes his traumas, and how, depending on how things play out, this whole series (Noé's whole memoir about Vanitas) could be future Noé's way of facing and processing Vanitas's death.

"I believe you"
This line is a little cliche at times, but we know it's usually used for canon couples (not many of which i can name rn but you get the idea) so i feel like i should just-
lol second one's a little aggressive but we both know those two show affection in the weirdest ways, but that actually may stem from trauma.
We know that vanitas and noe have both lost people in their lives, hence the fierce overprotectiveness they reserve for their loved ones. Noe with Dominique is a good example, they're childhood friends and we know that they're close.
When Vantias thought Noe was in danger while on his date with Jeanne he almost broke the door down (like damn bro, f*cking chill). When he's worried for Noe's wellbeing he calls him an idiot and other names when trying to get him to stop wandering off.
In episode 13 (i think) the squad is wandering the woods and Noe gets excited and starts walking away giggling like a child. Vanitas repeatedly calls after him, shouting various insults to try and get his attention. By now we've learned this is his way of expressing concern.
In this scene, after the whole thing with Chloe and Naenia went to hell, we find out that Vanitas had a hunch about what was going on, and Noe is angry that he withheld this information. Which leads me to the reason behind the 'aggressive display of affection'. Noe yelled the "I believe you" line for 2 reasons.
a) Vanitas was going on about how vampires never listen to humans and that he's nearly been killed by them several times (Noe felt that he needed the headbut to knock some sense into him)
b) Noe recognized that Vanitas has rarely had people trust him in his life and isn't used to having his opinion valued at all. If you think about it, he was locked in a lab and experimented on. This was a horrible place where he had no say about what happened to him (this can be expanded on so much more about why he's so controlling but that would take a while), and even after he got out he was underestimated for being a human. Noe realises it isn't going to be easy to convince Vanitas that he sees him as an equal, a friend. Because Vanitas may still struggle with believing Noe is different from other vampires (trust issues am i right) but he has made progress and he's definitely on his way to healing :)
Noe figured out a way to get through to him (even though yelling at each other to get a message across isn't great), he found a way to communicate to Vanitas that he will always treat him as an equal. This shows that Noe is trying to understand things from his point of view.
We know that Vanitas got the message because immediately after he starts kicking him in the shins and saying Noe makes him sick (while looking away all flustered), which means he doesn't know how to react to being treated this way. I mean, the man was treated like crap his entire life, he isn't gonna adjust to it right away but I know a certain someone who can help with that. Vanitas has shown several times that he will make an effort to change his ways for Noe's sake, and I think that he will continue to do so and try to heal. But not just for Noe, I don't think Noe's role in Vanitas's healing is going to be his purpose for it. I think he's going to show him that he isn't beyond help as he believes he is. Noe is going to show Vanitas that he can make an effort and that trying isn't pointless.

Vanijeanne 'date'
I think we all remember Vanitas and Jeanne going on a date in ep 11. This is Jeanne's way of trying to get Vanitas to stop liking her, after Dominique tells her that Vanitas once said he had no interest in someone who would return his feelings.
The scene overall is pretty cute, their interactions are nice to watch (Jeanne was just eating the whole time too lol). However, it seems their relationship will be more romantic after all, until Jeanne tells Vanitas that Ruthven let her come that day. After hearing this news, he quickly connects the dots and realizes that Noe might be in danger (which he is but Vanitas never finds out cause Ruthven's a lil bi*ch). So let me just clarify something; Vanitas is on a date with the 'love of his life' and is clearly having a good time, but the second he hears that his 'best friend' is in danger he runs off. Now this scene would make more sense for Vanijeanne if they had both gone off running, but Vanitas is the first to realize what happened and leaves Jeanne alone in the street. I understand that 'friendships' are important, but usually friends don't feel the need to rush off to help in situations they know they can handle. I'm not saying Vanitas underestimates Noe, but this protectiveness would most likely come from seeing Noe as more than a friend. Especially with someone like Vanitas who has lost so much in his life, it takes time for him to get close to someone but when he does you can tell he will protect those few people with his life.
When Vanitas finds Noe in his room, he's clearly relieved (I mean ofc he was concerned, my guy literally shouted his name and kicked the door down). Then of course there was the classic 'idc if you were in danger or not, im gonna deny i was worried' that we've all seen a hundred times (gotta love them classic tropes). Soooooo yeah, in conclusion I think there is something a lil fruity about ditching your 'date' for your 'best friend'.

Amusement Park Battle
This is talked about a lot, but I'm still gonna mention it.
Noe was given the choice of saving Dominique by drinking Vanitas's blood, or refusing to do that (because he knows Vanitas doesn't want that) and letting Dominique die (a choice no one should have to make btw). We know that Noe cares for Dominique a lot, they grew up together. But he had to stop and consider that Vanitas would not let him drink his blood, he immediately tried to find a different option (getting Vantias to give Mikhail the information himself) knowing that Vanitas isn't comfortable with Noe drinking his blood.
"I will never set you free" First of all, this ties back to one of their previous conversations. You can't have a romance without flashbacks to previous interactions, that's one of the most important rules. Noe knows that Vanitas wants to be 'free', meaning he wants to be alone. By promising that he will never set him free, he's telling him that he'll never leave Vanitas alone. "I'll never leave you" or "I'll always be here" (first of all that's so sweet regardless of whether or not it's a ship omg they're so cute) is basically what he was saying.
Vanitas wasn't able to kill Noe, if it had been anyone else I'm willing to bet that he would've killed them. And someone else could've knocked some sense into him, but no. It was Noe. I WONDER WHY. Seriously this ship has to be canon it's literally so perfect.
That ferris wheel fell (srsly tho as if there wasn't enough sh*t happening), and guess who got Vanitas out of the way (I know I'm probably grasping at straws at this point but still it's the little signs that are rly revealing sometimes).
Vanitas knew he would have to die eventually. He knew it was the only option, he knew he didn't have a choice. The only choice he did have was who would kill him. It's not like his options were limited, there's Jeanne, Dominique, Dante, Johann, Roland, Mikhail (obviously not). But out of all those people (including Jeanne, 'the one he loves') he chose Noe. If you're going to die one day, you would choose someone you trust completely and you know would make the right call in times of need. Vanitas could've chosen anyone, but he chose Noe. Not only that, he refused to meet his eyes while saying it. He knew Noe's reaction would be heartbreaking (that part doesn't have anything to do with the ship, I just felt the need to point it out).
In conclusion, during the show (especially the amusement park arc), there were so many opportunities for the creators to add to the Vanijeanne development. So many times when Vanitas needed help and could've relied on Jeanne instead of Noe. I don't think they would pass up this many chances to add to a romance unless they were building to something else.

"Someone like me"
Everyone knows about the heartbreaking scene after the whole Vanitas and Jeanne thing in the flower field. He talks to Roland and Olivier, saying that no one would ever fall for someone like him. Something not everyone remembers? Noe's reaction to this statement, he looks genuinely shocked by this. Some could argue that this stems from his natural kindness towards others, but I think it's more than that. I think it could've been intentional that he heard Vanitas say this, the show isn't entirely from Noe's pov. We all know it's possible to have scenes without Noe, that's common knowledge. So they could've had this scene without Noe, but he was there. This may seem far fetched to some people and it may not make a lot of sense. But in my experience, every interaction between two characters is planned out to the last detail. I believe this is a setup by the creators to add more tension and buildup to what could possibly be Vannoe endgame. Overheard conversations that reveal insecurities/trauma, a classic trope that lots of people forget about. If Jeanne were his love interest, wouldn't it make more sense for her to overhear this and tell him otherwise? Or him opening up about it to her (which probably won't happen) and then sorting it out? No, he doesn't mention these feelings to her at all. Noe is the one that overhears him, also the person who knows the most about his past (other than Mikhail ofc).

First things first, if you don’t like this ship or aren’t interested in reading about it keep scrolling.
I think we should talk about Vanijeanne a little bit first, I have nothing against this ship but I think it could’ve been introduced and developed much better.
From the start, something seemed off to me. It wasn’t that Jeanne showed absolutely no interest, it was the fact that Vanitas forced himself on her. That itself was a red flag, and he did it twice. Thankfully they move past this and he doesn’t do it again, but it still wasn’t right.
Relationships include opening up and letting yourself be vulnerable every once and a while. Jeanne is in a dark place, and she sees Vanitas as a saviour. He’s pretty much the first person she ever considered being in a relationship with and it’s not surprising that she went for the first person who offered to treat her right. But Vanitas doesn’t share much of his past with her, he had many chances but they don’t really talk until that one scene in the cabin.
Jeanne sees Vanitas as a saviour and he uses her as a coping mechanism/distraction from his trauma. I don’t think this is healthy for either of them, and they both deserve better than that. Given a chance, they could have a really nice friendship.
Sry to all of you Vanijeanne shippers but I just don’t see how she showed no interest for that long then suddenly fell for him overnight (literally, lol).
Now, on the other hand; Out of all the characters, Noe knows the most about Vanitas’s past. The two of them would make a really good match and they compliment each other so well. Vanitas believes that there is no good in the world, Noe helps him see that there is, he just has to look for it. Noe believes that everyone has good in them, deep down. But Vanitas helps him realize that some people are just too far gone. They have balanced personalities and are often more at ease in each other’s company.
