The Percht

Perchten are creatures in Austrian and Bavarian (among others) folklore. They roam from December to January and rattle with bells and chains to cast out the evil spirits of winter. They are not the same as Krampus! But in my experience there is a lot of overlap visually.

I am beyond excited about how this guy came out. Started a year ago and he was chilling as a wip for a long time but now i've finished him just in time. Mask and horns are air dry clay, hair is a mix of doll hair (underneath) and yarn wefts on top and for the beard. i kept the sneakers from the base doll (a jimin bts doll lol) and just painted them because this is not really an animal spirit creature - it's a guy in a costume :P

perchten masks usually have horns from real animals, often ibex, which was the reference for these

the lighting makes it look like her lip color matches the roses but irl it doesn’t lol

sorry she doesn’t have her hands on in any of these but they’re too hard to get on and off on this particular doll so i didn’t wanna do that between changing outfits 😩

didn’t like the way her hair was rooted in the front so i redid it. i also gave her a full ponytail but i might go back to the half up half down she had

switched their eyes

it took a lot of putting them in (almost) boiling water until i got them back in but they took it surprisingly well. i kind of expected that at least the golden glitter glue eyeshadow on ruby would crack but it held up perfectly despite the intense squeezing of the head lol

if you wanna try this i recommend doing it before any hair styling because you WILL ruin it haha. i’d like to give my sunny different eyes too but there’s no way i’m redoing her hair anytime soon lmao

i pulled out her bangs and rooted those streaks in the front, gave her purple eyes and cut off the big star hoops from her earrings to make them just little studs. choker is from gabriella

Dizzy Descendants

first one is her original outfit, the rest is miscellaneous stuff. i just wanted to try out some things i had lying around (i had high hopes for the overalls bc i’m itching to use them for a doll but i’m not entirely feeling it on this one idk)

another problem is that i have no shoes for her other than the ones she came with lol

i’m gonna leave her in her original outfit for now. she’s still pretty cute

little mermaid inspired look

the pants are a little more green irl and initially i had sth a lot more green in mind but this was the only color they had at the store and i couldn’t not use it hehe

the shells are painted with acrylic paint and iridescent powder

i love ruby with her hat on but unfortunately it doesn’t go with this outfit. i still feel like she might need some kind of head accessory but i’m not sure 🤔

also i ran out of gold beads so i had to improvise lol

i made a simple top and shorts and also gave her a new hairstyle bc i could NOT get those buns back in lmao. i don’t love how the curls came out but i don’t feel like redoing them 😭

also i randomly found these glasses among my mother’s old sewing supplies. the frame is actually metal :D and who knows what they were part of orignially but i’m pretty sure they were destined for sunny hehe

btw didn’t we say the pearly sheen was baked into their skin? bc i removed her blush with acetone and the shiny layer came right off with it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Rainbow High Sunny review

so i got my first rh doll and i have a few things to say

first of all i can confirm things other people have said, which are 1. the ridiculous amount of product in her hair (it was rock solid lmao) i got most of it out with hot water and a little bit of soap but now that it’s dry again i think it needs a second rinse. 2. limited poseabilty despite double-jointed knees. i might try my hand at carving out the knee and elbow joints.... she is also quite difficult to pose but idk if i just happened to get one with relatively stiff joints. and they might loosen up a bit with use. 3. she was so difficult to get out of the box lmao it’s more frustrating than exciting. i mean it might have been easier to just rip the box apart but if you’re like me and want to preserve the box as much as possible it’s quite difficult.

more issues with the hair...

first of all i’m tempted to just take the buns out and try styling them myself or just make regular pigtails if i can’t do it lol. the buns on mine came out of the box uneven and i just know it’s gonna bug me every time i look at her. plus there’s a few loose hairs that i wanna get rid of which is probably a lot easier.

but what bugs me the most is that Sunny has these longer pieces between the bangs and the long strands that are so thing and were just plastered together with the long strands. i think it’s a nice concept but if the execution is like this it would’ve been better to just not include them tbh. i can probably fix it by cutting a bit away from the long strands but other people and especially kids might not be able to. (don’t mind the bangs, they came out the box fine, it was me who made them look like this shdfjs i still need to style them properly)

other than that the hair feels soft and high quality and is a beautiful shade of yellow.

clothes lots and lot of loose threads that i still need to cut away with tiny scissors but i think all the different materials and textures are such a delight. biggest issue i have tho is that the sleeve on her jacket wasn’t sewn together properly. i hope i just got unlucky and that this isn’t a wide-spread problem in all the dolls.

one other thing i have to note - both of her jackets are such a struggle to put over her hands. they get caught in the fabric and threads and i know if i was a kid and asked my mom for help she would give up after 5 minutes and my dolls would just never wear jackets. i have a feeling that in the future the clothes might become less intricate to make playing with them ea i just realized while writing this that i could try and remove the hands like monster high dolls. what am i, a rookie......

.....well. in my defense there was no information anywhere that this was possible and i think it’s a risky move to hope that parents and kids will figure this out by themselves before they accidentally rip the fabric. come to think of it, back in the day i saw a lot of reviews of parents complaining that it’s impossible to get some clothes over monster high hands, even though every dolls came with a manual.

anyway let’s move on to the face small screening issue with slightly smudged lashes but it’s not really noticable if you don’t get in super close. overall i’m not a huge fan of the makeup, it almost looks... clownish, for lack of a better word. that might just be personal taste tho. i just find that the pink tones clash a little with the rest of the doll. the eyes are much greener than i expected. in some fotos they looked more yellow or even blue, both of which i would have preferred. if i’m feeling really adventurous i might try and plop them out to repaint them brown (and paint the lips a more neutral/brown shade while i’m at it)

so what’s my conclusion?

i feel like i was pretty harsh here but she was quite expensive (a little over €30 which seems to be the standard for them) so i’d say it’s justified lol. overall i do like her a lot. the clothes are super cute which is what i want from a fashion doll. and i’m planning to get more of them. i don’t have a lot of confidence that they’ll be able to uphold this level of intricacy in the clothes and i wouldn’t be surprised if future releases are a small step down, if only to save production costs.

i just wish there wasn’t so much work involved in making her presentable (washing the hair more than once, possibly restyling, cutting...) i imagine that could be very frustrating for kids. if a brand wants dolls to have complicated hairstyles they need to make sure that they come out of the box well styled.

Rainbow Sparkle Hair Barbie

the first thing i did was body swap her with the wheelchair fashionista lol (she’s a perfect skin tone match, not sure about the other blonde mtm’s)

she’s wearing that fashionista’s pants, shoes from.. somewhere, and a creatable world top. it’s a little short on her but i think it works well with the high waisted pants.

i put the hair in braids just to play around and now it has a slight wave to it that’ll probably stay for a while... oh well.

i also got a new phone with a decent camera so now i literally don’t have any excuses for why my photos are bad lmao

BTS prestige dolls, Jin, Jungkook and Suga

i love these dolls, esp bc i got them for like a third of the original price hehe. the outifts are so detailed and nice quality and i def want to get more of this line.

under the cut are more pictures and information about the outfits that i was missing in the review videos i watched before buying them.

Jin’s belt is plastic and separate from the jacket. the jacket has a textured pattern, stitched on silver dots and two silver non-functioning buttons in the front and it can only be closed with the belt. Jungkook’s jacket has printed gold and black details in the front and glued on gold buttons on the red side. the shoulder plates are plastic and sewn on.

all three of them have real pants pockets

Jin has a bunch of little rhinestones glued onto the collar, Jungkook’s kummerbund is fabric and closes with velcro in the back, Suga’s.. bib-collar thing closes with a snap button in the back and has to be pulled over the head.

Jin’s shirt closes with two snap buttons in the back but is sewn together at the bottom and has an elastic strap around the crotch to keep it in place. Jungkook’s shirt closes with one snap button in the front and also has an elastic strap. Suga’s shirt closes with two snap buttons in the front.

what surprised me was that Suga’s cuffs are actually separate from the shirt! they close with tiny little buttons and elastic loops. they are quite tricky to tuck under the sleeves.

Jin’s pants: the flowers are printed on but there are also flowers in the fabric with a different texture. it closes with velcro in the front. Jungkook’s: closes with velcro in the front, but the belt also needs to be opened in order to take them off. do this very carefully as the leg harness (not sure what else to call it..?) is very delicate and i accidentally ripped it at the top of the three buckles 😭 i was able to glue it back together tho and the buckle hides is luckily. all of the buckles do actually work tho. the belt loops on these pants are also real and you should be able to remove the harness in one piece. Suga’s: closes with a snap button in the front. not sure why they went with velcor for some and snaps with others. the butterflies and dragonflies are real stitching and there are thin white strips of fabric sewn on the sides in between the front and the back pieces.

i can’t speak for how well the band and their outfits were translated into doll form since i’m not actually a bts or k-pop fan, but my impression is that it worked well. i also can’t say how much a fan of the real people would enjoy these dolls, but as a doll collector i’m very happy

Marinette Dupain-Cheng

this was my first custom doll a couple years ago and i finally revisited her (and probably will again once i’m more confident in repainting faces hehe) (i promise she also has shoes but i Cannot Find Them atm)

this hairstyle required lots of guidelines on the wig cap lol. i think the pigtails could be shorter and i wanted the bangs to lie flatter but alas... i had to call it done at some point bc i was afraid of ruining it

quite happy with the painted details on the shirt, and a huge improvement from the first version if i do say so myself hehe

whew her makup made it quite difficult to find an outfit but i’m really happy with this :>

her hair is parted way off center and it makes the bangs look super weird without the headband so i had to find something that would go with it too haha
