Been chipping away at bunch of books over the last little while. I'm dipping my toe into the the Darkness, which has been interesting. Not so crazy about the older stuff, something about the costume just feels meh, but am super digging the rebirth (reboot) storyline. It's all the stuff I liked about the games, which in all honesty is how I got here. Funny how your first experience of something colours every other medium of that property. Hunger games, although I've read all the books I enjoyed the films far more. Twilight for all its sins the film over the book. Umbrella academy rocked as a show, but the comic was too weird. Locke and Key show managed to leave out all the stuff that made the comics so incredible. The Boys as a book was interesting and gritty but the show carried an emotional punch that blew it out of the water. The list really does go on and on. I’m celebrating my new status as a level 36 bard the way I spend ALL my major milestones, by getting drunk with my best friend Pippa Pilgrim (who coincidentally, and not all by accident, is now also my legal property). If you need me to explain how that last punchline works, please show yourself out – I have better things to do. Beyond saying thank you to everyone for your well wishes, birthday greetings and love I want to give you a gift, two gifts actually. The first, I want you to take a moment and reach out to someone you love (not me) and make sure they know how much you love them. This is important, don’t assume they know, make sure you tell them. Some days those messages are the difference between choosing to stay on the chessboard and people giving up. The second gift is a little harder, but will free up more emotional bandwidth than you could ever imagine – think long and hard about it though, because this is a big one. Say no to someone today, look at what they don’t bring to your life, or rather how much of your spirit they unapologetically eat, and cut them out of your world. Trust me this will hurt, but it will utterly change the landscape of your universe. Of all the things I’ve learned in my life, this is the single thing I wish I’d understood sooner. You owe nobody anything, blood doesn’t equal allegiance, you choose your own family. You curate who you allow into your life. I promise that once you stop forcing yourself to be “polite” to your racist uncle, your narcissistic mother, or your abusive sibling, the scope of your world will open. The power of the word “no” is earthshaking. If someone, or something doesn’t fill you with joy, say no and remove them/it from your orbit. Future you will toast you, they will remember your sacrifice fondly, and be grateful for your strength and kindness. Do it now, be unapologetic because this is your life. Your ONE life, and if you don’t choose how you spend your precious hours – someone else will. I love you all, thank you for making my life a wonderful place to be. #myweekinpictures 23 December 2020 A surreal closing to what has been a year of writing on the walls in its own poop level crazy. I'd say things can't get any worse, but then when has that ever been true? Been looking into dictation with some fervour, and I think it's going to take as my preferred way of drafting. I talk faster than I type, also I think in my advancing age I may have become one of those arseholes who likes the sound of their own voice. Either way if you're keen to find out about it Monica Leonelle has an assortment of books on the subject. the most renowned of which being How to Train Your Dragon. We watched #Spell, it's a standard sort of horror film format, black-centric folky horror which was refreshing, we enjoyed the hell out of it. - totally worth a watch. Been baking, brewing gingerbeer, and revisiting @neilhimself 's masterclass. Which if you haven't done yet, is wonderfully enriching. I got all tarted up to do a thing, and after 8 months got to wear the new tie I got specifically for the purpose. And now, on this, the night before the night before Xmas I'm feeling pretty dang festive thank you very much. Been re-reading the Hack/Slash series first volume is okay but it's volume 2 when it really gets moving. Think final girl goes on a crusade with her monolith of a best friend (who also happens to be the best thing about the books) to kill slashers wherever they pop up. #myweekinpictures Friday 27th November 2020 It's been whimsical, mostly, if you don't count all the bloodshed and screaming I've been writing the last few days. A great big recommendation if you have @audible_uk check out #hellcats it's a phenomenal audio drama about a pair of cross dressing LGBTQ pirates who kick ass and take shit from no one. It's was a fresh breath of something I didn't know I was waiting for. It's heartfelt, hilarious, sweet, and most importantly - dark. Other than that, my cult research continues, so if you have any documentary/book/podcast suggestions about cults, cult leaders or surviving them I'm ALWAYS keen to get them in my brain hole. Also check out #porno on @shudder totally out of the left field weird and bloody fun. Also there's a merkin. A very very fuzzy merkin.
