This website has a list Canadian counsellors who may be able to help with mental illness. Look for one in your area.
To Trans* individuals: there are specialized counsellors listed that may be able to help you with your transition.
I thought I would share this data base with ya’ll. I don’t know how much it will help, but it’s worth a shot.
Hope it helps someone out there! I know it has helped me.

Philosophy 1000.
I need a couple Philosophy courses for social work. I also need to get my GPA up. Soo thus the reason I am taking this damn course.  My current Philosophy project is an essay trying to decide wether or not the community is necessary to upholding ones moral duty. and I am supposed to explain my theory using Aristotle and Kant. SUPER FUN.  Okay.  My theory: In my opinion the community in which you grow up in is 100% necessary in order to upholding moral duties and I believe this for many reasons, ill talk about 2.
Reason number 1: If you visit different places in the world, lets say you visit Saudi Arabia, Canada, and China three very different places with VERY different moral values. I am going to use the example of abortion (a very controversial topic.)
Saudi Arabia; it is illegal for an abortion to be preformed on a pregnant woman, unless it is 100% that the mother will die if she continues with the pregnancy, and the baby must be aborted in the first 40 days. legally.
Canada: Any pregnant woman can get an abortion for any reason, as long as the pregnancy is less than 3 months along.  China: Any pregnant woman may get an abortion for any reason, at any time. There are 9 month along pregnancies aborted legally in china. These three countries, have 3 very different laws about abortion. Why?  We can start in Saudi Arabia, a place where women do not have rights. They are not aloud to drive a car. They do not have the right to vote. Only 17% of women in Saudi Arabia are in the work force. Saudi Arabia gender gap is ranted at 131 out of 135 countries. They don't have any control over anything that they do. In a society like this, I wouldn't expect women to be able to have an abortion, or even to want to because of the views their society has impressed upon them since birth.  In Canada, women have rights. I can drive a car. I can vote, heck! I could run for office if I wanted to. Women make up 47.8 % of the TOTAL work force and in 2010, Canada's gender gap raked at 20 out of the 135 countries. Of course women are going to fight for the right to have abortions! We are told from children here in canada that we can do what ever we want when we grow up. Isn't that amazing? We can go to school, we can get a post secondary education, we can be a politician, a bus driver a lawyer, anything we want..
In China, women have rights, They can vote, they can run for office, 67.7% of women in china are in the work force, and their gender gap is ranked at 69 out of the 135.  So why is it even possible for women in china to abort their babies at 9 months of pregnancy? To myself a Canadian woman, the first time I heard this I was in shock.  In the 9th month of pregnancy I thought?! How is that even possible?  Chinese tradition is that the male child in the family is to take care of the parents when they are in their old age and no longer able to work. China has a one baby per family policy if you have more than one baby, your family is taxed heavily. If you are a poor family, and you have 2 children and won't be able to pay the taxes let alone feed your children. Chances are you are getting an abortion. How about you get pregnant with a girl? who will take care of you in your old age? No one. again, chances are you are getting an abortion.. *** This is probably not the case for every family. Just in the research that I have done** Anyways. You see the point I am trying to make here. Where you grow up, what you learn from your society and your community,  it has a big impact on what morals you develop.
Reason number 2:  Growing up in my family, my parents always said, "don't lie" "don't steal" "don't cheat"  "be respectful"  "don't use your hands use your words." Sounds pretty basic right? Well.  What if every time I wanted something my parents took me to a store and told me to put it in my bag or in my pockets from the time I was able to walk?  What If my parents told me "never study for a test. Just look off your neighbour."?
What if my parents told me every time someone did something that I didn't like, just to hit them?  I would be soooo screwed up right now it isn't funny.
I would be cheating on every test, probably be kicked out of school and banded from the mall. I would probably be a little hooligan.
The community that is my family shaped theses moral's in me. You see my point? Now.. To back it up with philosophers... That is the tricky part... and I will save it for another post. Lovely to explain it to you Have a Wonnderful day!
