AAW -- Kakashi/Iruka

When I got into Naruto, I didn’t quite get the yaoi pairings. Like, I know that if there’s an anime or manga with at least two male characters, there’s going to be yaoi. I get that. But they didn’t make sense to an outsider. (Now that I’m actually watching the show, it makes more sense, but I digress.)

Then, I found KakaIru. Guys. Guys. This ship opened me up to a whole new side of Naruto fanfiction. All the fluff I kept looking for in KakaSaku was right here. And Iruka! My dear, precious, wonderful Iruka!

Beautiful Things by megyal Rating: Mature (I’d call it Explicit) Status: Complete Summary: (From the prompt) Shinobi are known across the globe as being beautiful to watch in bed. Kakashi and Iruka find themselves in a situation where a sovereign wants to witness this first hand. Why I love it: First, megyal is one of the best KakaIru authors ever. It took me an hour to pick which fic I was going to focus on. It was one of the newer fics I’d read and I absolutely love it. So many things are understated and perfect and the writing style is beautiful.

(I can’t leave it there because you also have to read Speak louder than actions and Love-Life Tip #76: Leave Your Demon Dogs Alone With the Computer and The Bijozakura Seal and Responsible, forever, for what you have tamed and just all of them. I promise they are so worth it. Oh, and don’t forget Hey Cutie!)

Take it to the Mattress by durgasdragon Rating: Explicit Status: Complete Summary: Kakashi isn’t thrilled when he’s set up—again—with a new partner, but once he meet the new one, he starts reconsidering things. Why I love it: Smutty fluff. I don’t know what else you need from a fic. Emotions? That comes in chapter four! Character growth? Chapter 3. Overcoming hardships? Chapter 5. Humor? All the chapters! A humorous Kakashi, a self-assured Iruka, and a great author.

Secretary by dawnstruck Rating: Teen (I would call it Mature) Status: Complete Summary: In the aftermath of a war, Kakashi falls in love over politics and paperwork. It shouldn’t be this romantic. Why I love it: I’m a total sucker for one-shots that jump scenes to tell its story. I’m also a total sucker for a stubborn, self-assured, not-a-fan-of-Kakashi Umino Iruka. I also love a KakaIru fic that doesn’t forget Sakura exists. What do you know, this has all three!

Crack Open Another Bottle by DarkAuroran Rating: Teen Status: Complete Summary: It’s two in the morning, the street lamp tried to attack him, the road just bit him, and Iruka is stuck with the taste of soggy pork dumplings in his mouth. At least he managed to escape the marauding gang of eels that tried to steal his pants. All in all, Iruka’s funeral went wonderfully! Why I love it: This fic has got to be one of the funniest things I’ve ever read. Drunk!Iruka is something everyone needs to experience. It’s practically crack, but so fantastic. I’m laughing just thinking about it.

Lust, Love, and Everything in Between by Aviss Rating: Explicit Status: Complete Summary: And old tradition brings them together, it’s up to them to stay that way. If they want to. Why I love it: I’m in love with how Aviss writes these two characters. They’re both sure of themselves, respectful of the other, and Iruka is perfect. (I’m biased, but that’s beside the point.) I love how in touch Iruka is with his emotions and how he deals with them. It’s all upfront and honest and wonderful and I just love the story line.

Letters Home by gryvon Rating: Explicit Status: Complete Summary: Naruto sends letters to his two teachers while he’s training with Jiraiya. Why I love it: Another one-shot that shows the growth of a relationship in scenes. Naruto inadvertently brings the two together, and it’s hilarious when Jiraiya finds out. Another one with amazing characterization and just a great tone to set the entire story.

Honorable Mention

Missing in Action by ericales Rating: Mature (References to sexual themes) Status: Complete Summary: Iruka wasn’t above laughing at a drunk man.

Do Not Open Till Christmas by TjRythum Rating: Explicit Status: Complete Summary: Iruka hates the company christmas party, but hiding in his bosses office to escape his fellow co-workers may not have the best idea he’s ever had.
