This camp was posted in a homeschooling group I'm in. I definitely didn't hold back my thoughts about what this ad implies to me. I'm wondering what families of color think about this camp? Please comment below and share what immediately comes to your mind.

Our students are coming along! They spent the last 2 weeks carving out the sample templates they selected. Next, they'll start designing their own image to carve out. #blockprinting #carving #MRMinArt #myreflectionmatters Reinaldo Cruz

In our last class, students practiced learning how to sketch faces in preparation for their upcoming collaborative project, which is inspired by a Dominican artist who is famous for his bright colored, Afro-centric face paintings. Stay tuned to find out who the artist is later this week! #caribbeanart #myreflectionmatters #MRMinArt #sketching #sketchingfaces

Last week our art students were introduced to the history of the Tainos--one of the largest indigenous people of the Caribbean. They viewed photographs from my family's trip to one of the Taino ceremonial grounds in Puerto Rico to examine the beautiful petroglyphs carved onto stone. Instead of carving, students painted Taino symbols onto small rocks to create a unique paper weight or decorative piece. Click the link (also in bio) for a free step by step instructional guide on how to do this project with your kids/students. This makes a perfect father's day gift! #taino #caribbeanart #tainoart #petroglyphs #painting http://www.myreflectionmatters.org/product/taino-paperweight/ (at Waterbury, Connecticut)

Khalilah, I'm so happy to have had you be a part of my life. And while I know you are shaking your head and saying, "Girl, I'm still here", it's going to take me a while getting used to you living in the spirit form vs the physical. I love you. I'm so proud of you. You will always inspire me. Thank you for being you. Thank you for fighting for the liberation of our people. Your work will live on and continue.

It's June--Pride month! While bright colors are symbolic of LGBTQ pride; young people's literature in this genre is anything but colorful when it comes to whose racial & ethnic perspective dominates the narrative. In my efforts to expand my children's anti-oppressive library, I've selected some great picks (over 12 books) that center the various shades of Brown voices within the LGBTQ community for our patreons. Tonight we are honoring @noguera9356 as the 2nd executive director of NYU Metro Center in celebration of their 40th anniversary. I was privileged to have had the opportunity to work alongside Pedro at Metro for close to a decade. I learned so much watching Pedro demand educational equity for Black & Brown youth. He's a legend and I'm excited to be celebrating him and Metro tonight. Oh...and, yes, that's my book that he's got in his hands (which includes his testimonial)!
