I firmly believe this is because many viewers have in some capacity parentified Dean for themselves. Dean must be always reasonbale, loving, accepting, caring, not letting his negative emotions show, because if he does he breaks the mold of that imaginary good father character. Dean MUST love other characters and be nice to them because if not then he’s horrible parent person who is not supportive enough. If Dean was a good dad person he would pat everyone on the head and tell them how good they are and how proud he is of them, and the fact that he does not do that means he’s bad parent person, as the others thrive on the acknowegement of Dean. If father Dean does not accept decisions of a character fully or denies them the aknowlegement, the character will have daddy-issues Dean-issues in the future.
Dean’s love is practically regarded as a human right in Supernatural.

You’re actually not awful at that. You’re like father material.

The good example of "Gadreel-like moment" was aaaall the way back in the Faith episode: while it was not Sam's fault that someone died in place of Dean, Dean is MISERABLE about whole thing and really Not Okay with Sam not being all that caring about the consequences.
And can you imagine if Sam did this KNOWINGLY? Hoo boy.
I still think about when Sam said "We would do the same thing" about murdering random people and pulling out their insides to feed to a dying loved one to save their life.

Meta: Do I look like Paris Hilton? Dean as SPN's Cinematic Female Other
Disclaimer: Sadly, I’m not a film scholar, so this is just the sum of my personal amateurish observations. // Contains mild spoilers for 12x09. // This got ridiculously long, but I hope the pretty pictures make up for it. In a recent discussion with @dlasta I said that I think the show’s narratology, mythology and cinematography all code Dean as SPN’s Female Other. She invited me to share further thoughts on the cinematography, which is what I’m attempting to do now. I want to talk about five aspects of the cinematography which particularly stood out to me: feet-first camera pans, sex scenes, sleeping scenes, mannequin symbolism, and moments of cinematic otherness (or, as I tend to call them in my head, “monster shots”).

If Dean Winchester was a DnD character, he would have 20 in charisma.

It must have been absolutely killing Sam that it’s SAM who wants nomal, it’s SAM who wants to fit in, and it’s SAM who wants to be cordially social, but it’s DEAN who just makes friends and fits in well in any situation or in any group of people. Sam tries so hard to be nice, proper and normal to fit in; but the one who actually manages to is Dean, who is basically an asshole who wears his weirdness like a coat.

I think that paramount to understanding Sam and Dean is the fact that they genuinely love each other. They deeply enjoy spending time together, sharing the smaller and bigger things. They really just want the best for each other. It’s not a relationship built on “you’re my brother SO I love you”, but “you’re my brother AND I love you”.
They can be awful to each other, hurt each other, disregard boundaries and be just plain dicks, but it never comes from a place of hate. And the answer to “Why Dean/Sam is putting up with <insert their brother’s transgression>” is always going to be “Becuase they want to, as they feel their brother is worth that and more”.
