This is kinda hilarious on the simple fact that if this is true, Vox has to live with the knowledge that a guy who eats rotting deer and canonically is annoying/off-putting to most in-person interactions is somehow more preferable to the public audience than him. A massive hit on Vox's ego lol
One of the more interesting aspects of Stayed Gone is the implication that, prior to his disappearance, Alastor must have been producing some quality programming.
Despite it's obvious importance in the modern world, TV apparently only started outcompeting radio in Hell after Alastor vanished. Seven whole years ago. And when Al returns, Vox's first response is to freak the fuck out about whether he's gonna keep his audience.
That's fucking crazy.
And we can be pretty sure that people weren't just listening in out of fear, either. Or because Alastor was making any major effort to crush all other forms of media.
If this was purely about which Overlord was the most powerful, then Vox's verses would surely have focused on emphasising his own strength. Instead, they're all about calling radio outdated. Vox is genuinely worried— apparently based on experience— that Alastor is going to outdo him in terms of sheer entertainment value.
Which raises the obvious question: what were Al's shows actually like? (Aside from those early broadcasts guest-starting the screams of the damned, obviously.)
We get kind of a taster in the song:
“Salutations! Good to be back on the air. Yes, I know it's been a while, since someone with style treated Hell to a broadcast— Sinners, rejoice!— instead of a clout-chasing mediocre video podcast. Is Vox insecure, pursuing allure? Fitting between this fad and that, is nothing working? Every day, he's got a new format! Is Vox as strong as he purports? Or is it based on his support? He'd be powerless without the other Vees! And here's the sugar on the cream: he asked me to join his team! I said no, and now he's pissy, that's the tea!”
Obviously he's doing it to music, so there's going to be some difference in the cadence of his voice from that, but still, he's talking noticeably quicker than he does in person. And he gets right to the point.
Compare it to his commercial in episode 1. There's a big difference in terms of both how much respect he's showing his audience (“well hello there, you wayward sinner!” vs “good to be back on the air”), and how much relevant information he delivers.
Alastor is a great character to watch, but most people who interact with him directly seem to find the experience either annoying, awkward, terrifying or all three.
Mainly because Al seems to go out of his way to put people off even when he's actively trying to get them to trust him, by making condescending asides or constantly dropping references to his own power. On air, however, he greets everyone politely and even drops what is almost an apology for being gone so long (“I know it's been a while”), then immediately gets to the information that he knows they're really listening for.
Alastor may not respect Charlie, Adam or Lucifer, but he does respect his audience.
And the content he's producing makes it clear why people are still tuning in. Al has the gossip. Katie Killjoy and Tom Trench may not be unbiased exactly, but they're clearly trying to provide sources for their claims and maintain some veneer of professional news reporting.
Al, meanwhile, is quite happy to provide strong opinions and baseless speculation about public figures, content that is less fitting with the professional image that Vox seems so desperate to keep up, but that is likely to attract a bigger audience.
What gets me curious now, however, is wondering what else he used to provide.
Again, radio was apparently the medium for news and entertainment in Hell until Alastor left. Implying that a) radio was at the time fulfilling many of the function that TV now provides, and b) Alastor was involved enough in this that it collapsed/got overthrown the moment he left town.
Did Alastor have an empire similar to the Vees? Did he run a bunch of channels? Did he have DJs and sports commentators and presenters on his payroll?
Given that radio seems to have collapsed completely after he left— did they all go running to Vox when he was presumed dead? Was the Vees new empire in part built on the ruins of Alastor's old one?
Or did he do the whole thing solo and just run like, a bunch of different shows. (In which case, since radio's bread and butter has always been music, Helluva Boss fans can now have fun imagining him interviewing Verosika Mayday about ‘Vacay to Bonetown’.)

What makes this beef even funnier

is the fact that Amir voices Tom Trench.
So, instead of this being a feud between Alastor and Blitzø, it's the most chaotic broadcast of 666 News with the CEO in contention

random rambling about the Media Demons (Part 3)
Time to talk about a complicated and sad duo that probably had a messy breakup!
Why I think there partnership/friendship/??? was doomed to fail (Using knowledge of media history and show business):
So, remember how I mentioned I looked up a lot of stuff because of these two? Well it also made me realize that these two would have VERY different views of their professions and many other things. And that might've played a roll with why they ended up as they are now.
Let's talk about the biggest thing many people (understandably) believe is the cause of their conflict: New vs Old. And why I don't think that's the case (I already talked about their possible personal real issues between the two in another post, so we're just gonna focus on the job/profession-related reasons). Because ironically, television (atleast 1950s hollywood mostly) was trying to copy the golden era of hollywood and film (1929-1945) but in a different way due to movie theaters failing and televisions become more affordable for the everyman. While radio is the opposite; a media that was all about trying to do new things and seeing what worked and what doesn't and the limits of what the technology could do. So... Alastor and Vox are the opposites of their respective medias? Not quite but they do want to pretend they are and not just on this point!
Another thing about the two medias is how they function in culture and society as a whole. As I mentioned TV and Film have always been focused on being grander than life and being something normal people want to dream of but can never fully experience in real life. But Radio? To this day a key thing about it is that almost anyone can broadcast anything if they have the right set up (Reason we have so many podcasts and local radio stations), so because of that and because the reason for their original creation was to inform local people about local information it has always been seen as a more personable and down-to-earth medium.
Funny enough the people that work for their respective mediums technically had to act like the opposite of what their job seems to be. Many radio show hosts never really used their real full names and most radio show employees worked in the background not wanting or expecting any publicity, not because they were humble but because in that work the information or entertainment made was were the attention was supposed to go not on who delivered it, causing their identities to be mysterious to the average casual listener. But Hollywood? Entire films would be sold out just on which actor or director worked on it! But celebrities weren't supposed to act too good for their audience or be perceived as rude to a fan. They had to act very friendly and relatable to the everyday individual. Sound familiar?
Alastor and Vox ARE perfect hosts/overlords of their respective mediums BUT pretend to not also be perfect embodiments of their respective mediums. Let me explain:
Alastor is considered to be "stuck in the old times" and wants to appear as such but he also is the person who seems surprisingly progressive (His reaction to Angel hitting on him seems to be negative only because of the vulgarity/pervertedness of it not the fact that a man is hitting on him, When he first met Angel he called him an "effeminate fellow" like it was just a polite description and turned him down a lot nicer than even Husk did later on in the series, He seems happy or relaxed in the pride merch unlike SOMEBODY, he respects women more than men, etc) and also seems to keep up (atleast a little) to modern slang and bit with modern technology. And he also wants to be seen as a a mysterious unknowable threat in an expensive suit to the citizens of Hell, ignoring the fact that his real nature is being a people's person who enjoys interacting with people either positively and negatively and if the finale is anything to go off of, he gets quickly attached to people despite actively trying to avoid that. And the expensive "I'm higher-class than you" outfit? Clearly, doesn't fit his actual behavior since he's perfectly fine dirtying his hands for a fight and is shown to not really care much about his Overlord position unless it comes to people questioning his abilities. So he fits his media of being secretly being pretty personable and does in fact adapt/progress with current times fairly easily.
But Vox? The dude actively is trying so hard to be something it isn't it kinda hurts. He wants to be with the times but still acts outdated and probably still has outdated views (This man is grumpy in nearly every pride merch thing but not in any of the other merch. The only one he's happy is the VoxVal card, which he could internally justify that since he's still the "man" in the relationship it isn't really gay. Like how many actual internalized homophobic men explain it to themselves.), outdated style (His clothes are still copying Alastor's outdated fashion), and even outdated television/film behavior. His shows and commercials seem to always be a decade or two behind of the modern era. Like how TV and Film media is always a few years behind in pop culture stuff. He also has no interest in being like the common man in anyway way in his personal life, he wants people to adore him and see him as above everyone. But for revenue purposes and fame he tries to act more personable than he actually is and tries his hardest to make himself seem like the embodiment of modern times and the future.
This unironically fits how they act with each other currently. Alastor probably does have some hang ups and thinks about Vox but for the most part he has bigger things to focus and doesn’t seem to stuck on Vox. He is moving on or atleast trying to. But Vox? Guy who only locked his attention to the hotel after finding out Alastor was there? Person who seems to be the most consistently excited and most emotional when it comes to things connected to Alastor? But yet still has an old photo of him and an outfit that seems to be a copy of his? He’s still stuck on whatever negative emotions he had after Alastor and him stop being allies.
But due to how their respective medias functioned in their time periods it makes too much sense that they would always end up clashing. One is built for a more behind the scenes type of fame while the other is about being on the spotlight. And both characters are trying their hardest to hide the fact that their personalities fit their respective medias. So of course even their clashing masks/personas would bother each other. I mean, imagine being friends with somebody for years, seeing them as your equal only to realize the both of you or faking your personalities and goals most of the time.
Can you tell this was mostly motivated after seeing these two’s VAs interact at the latest convention? Anyways have fun with this!

Happy Father's Day! Have some Alastor is Niffty's Father figure/they're besties headcanons/analysis!
For clarification: I don't see Niffty as kid at all (at most she might have some age regression due to trauma or other reasons) and I don't think you need to view her that way to see Alastor as her surrogate father figure. Adults can have dads and their dads still act parental around their adult sons/daughters.
Now the fun part! The first three are more analysis than headcanons but the others are just for fun:
Alastor might be one of the few people that actually treats Niffty like an adult (albeit, old lore said he sees her as kinda dumb which ain't great but could technically be correct since Vivziepop said Niffty isn't the brightest). Unlike everyone else react to her conversations or actions by either ignoring it, reacting negatively, or not taking it seriously. They all kinda just act like Niffty is either a kid or a feral beast, EXCEPT for Alastor. The dude seems to always go along with her behavior and seems to be the only one that talks to her like he's talking to another adult and I think she appreciates that a lot.
Connected to the last one, Niffty and Alastor the most comfortable around each other because they see each other as equals and feel accepted by the other due to them both being considered crazy and dangerous by everyone else and themselves. Alastor treats Niffty like an adult but also behaves in ways that show he is ok with her not always "acting her age" and is willing to support and guide her if she needs it. In return, Niffty is the only one that seems to understand Alastor well and is a person he feels comfortable being honest and (kinda) vulnerable around. But also...
They definitely also enjoy having someone around that isn't scared of their sadistic and chaotic sides but instead would join them when they want a murder buddy (Alastor joins in with Niffty maniacal laughter fit and genuinely likes her roach crown despite not fully understand her mindset connected to it. And Niffty seems to really enjoy being a supportive audience member/witness to Alastor's violent attacks against people).
Now the head-canons:
They are cooking buddies who have claimed the kitchen as the Radio Demon's territory. They both are probably the "chefs" of the hotel and cook all the meals for everyone. If anyone else tries to enter the kitchen while their cooking they have to deal with Niffty throwing every knife available at their head while Alastor is slowly turning into his demon form and repeatedly telling them to get out. Besides that tho, their cooking time together is weirdly wholesome and tends to have either one of them talking or singing. Though occasionally they just put on some music and enjoy each other's company quietly.
When they are talking to each other it's mostly gossip about the others. Alastor is mostly talking badly about the others like how one talks badly about their coworkers and Niffty is just shipping everyone or talking random nonsense that pops up in her mind. Anyone listening in would be lost but they seem to be on the same wavelength.
Niffty understands Alastor's asexuality and in return he understands her extreme romantic mindset. So they both came up with a compromise when it comes to her wanting to share her bdsm romance stories with him for editing help or when she wants to talk about bad boys with him. She will not talk about any of the sexual aspects in detail and will not ask him to edit the sex scenes (Husk and later Angel become the reluctant editor of those scenes. She writes, unsurprisingly, sex scenes that make even them a bit concerned.) But he will help her with any "torture" advice or questions she asks (Like how long can she strangle a guy without killing him, what is safe-ish alternative to handcuffs, etc) and will give his opinion on if he approves on whether or not one of her crushes/targets is a good option.
Despite most people's belief, I don't think Alastor would be overtly overprotective of Niffty when it comes to her dating life. He would just do it in secret (send his shadow to spy on their first dates, do his version of background checks, send anonymous threatening letters/packages to the guy if he does one thing he doesn't like, etc) and would just wait for the approval from Niffty to kill her boyfriend after she gets tired of them or when they break her heart. Niffty knows about all of this and think it's nice because friends are supposed to protect each other after all (If anyone flirted with Alastor and managed to make him uncomfortable or genuinely annoyed she will quickly return the favor and possibly take away some body parts from the person).
Niffty knows more than most about the people Alastor has had some sort of relationship with. And despite not knowing the Vees remember Vox as "Alastor's Ex". She has called Vox this on multiple occasions and he can't tell if he should be offended or just remind her of his actual name. They've known each other almost as long as they both have known Alastor (They're both canonically from the 50s). They're polite to each other but don't really get along.
Vivziepop once said that Alastor knows about Niffty's story/origins so I think that would mean he knows some of her trauma and why she acts how she acts (hence why he is so understanding towards her), in return he might've shared some cryptic/vague pieces of his past and some of his trauma.
When Alastor looses his temper or having a breakdown (like the one in the finale), I don't think Niffty can or even tries to calm him down, instead she waits for it to pass and then offers her help. To her it's the same as Alastor waiting for her to finish crying instead of forcing her to stop to make her feel better.
Alastor only really accepts help (for his injuries or his mental state) from Niffty if he has to get help from anyone. Niffty accepts help from anybody but nobody usually trusts her to do the same in return, so it means a lot to Niffty that Alastor does.
Besides their status of being "crazed killers" in the hotel, I also think they share a few other things (They both have severe mental health issues like cptsd and controlling issues, both were minorities in a time period that had the mentality of "either conform to the white american standard or never get accepted by society, both probably had to mask because of the two things mentioned before, both have mindsets/morals/views that would be difficult to understand for others, etc).
As you can see I like these two a lot lol. Happy Father's Day!

People will go "Being aromantic and or asexual is a spectrum so it's okay that I ship them with someone!" But if I said I headcanon a character that's already in a canon relationship as aroace suddenly I'm just mischaracterizing and trying to make every character queer

.... I figured out what Niffty did with her "collection"-
Most of us remember this scene, right...?
Well, recently a lot of pride month merch was released, and one outfit in particular caught my attention. Niffty's.
That fluff around her neck looks very familiar. I think she found a use for Val's fluff-thing.

I have such a fear that they're building their relationship like this to make it hurt when Niffty dies or something. Like a Jinx and Isha situation. Hopefully it's not that and it's actually more buildup to explain why Alastor would make a huge decision for Niffty. Like I can see his business partnership/friendship with Vox in the past ending because Vox tried to harm her or use her (Vox is shown to see his employees purely as tools and might've assumed Alastor saw Niffty the same way).
Has anyone else noticed how much Alastor and Niffty are getting paired together in official merch lately?
First there's the youtooz laptop buddiez
And now there are the standees for the Pride 2025 merch
I don't know how much of a trend this is, but I love it. They are such an underrated duo, I love their friendship.

Folks, friends, y’all…. esk*mo is a slur. I understand a lot of people don’t know that, I don’t want to be a dick about it, but I’ve been seeing it in fics. Wanna write “esk*mo kisses”? Just say “nuzzled noses” or something.
I’m not here to call anybody out, it’s been in multiple fics, I’m not vague posting. This is just a psa. 👍🏻

have you read "what are friends for?" by Daisynights on ao3? its one of my favorite alastor and mimzy fics and I feel like its something you would enjoy
I did after getting this ask! It was pretty interesting and made me more excited about how the show will cover Alastor and Mimzy''s friendship in the future, if they do include more of it, in the show.

You know not what you have unleashed. This nerd shit will have to be a multi-parter.
Ok so my brain has fully rotted for two specific things I'm currently obsessed with (Well, I've been obsessed with one of these since I was a kid, but never posted on here about it cause there's not much I can talk about besides going on rambles that WILL make me sound insane...more insane) so... I made a crossover AU thing. I'm making a poll one whether I should share it on here.
On the one hand, this fills me with cringe and I feel like I'll lose some dignity. On the other hand, if I don't share it or do anything with it will feel like a waste of my time.
Some context about the thing itself: It's not a 1:1 thing. Like the OG Park in this story had a disaster unknown to the public that caused it to never actually get up and running...Until a few years later when somebody decided to reopen the park and a handful of specific people are invited to check out the park as a sort of experiment to see if it can work.
It might be already obvious who the person(s) representing Hammond will be lol

Yeah, I think the thing about both friendships is that they don't know they're doing anything wrong to their friends! Cherri is enabling Angel Dust's drug use BUT I think its because she doesn't know any other way to help him feel better. Meanwhile Mimzy seems to have always used her friendship with Al to her benefit BUT Alastor doesn't show any reason he's against helping her, in fact he actively enjoys hurting and killing the people against her and takes pride in his ability to deal with the situation. The only real difference between the two is Cherri is shown to be there for Angel when he needs and seeks comfort (I'm taking the Addict MV as semi-canon), while Alastor seems to loathe any amount of vulnerability so I feel like he would actively stop Mimzy from trying to comfort him or repay the favor in any way (Afterall, why would someone who has control over everything and can handle anything need support or comfort from anybody? <- Al's probably mentality not mine btw). Plus, they both seem pretty aggressive and cutthroat (like how the entertainment can be cutthroat some people adopt that mentality kinda thing) so maybe Mimzy doesn't know how to comfort someone at all.
After the pilot came out, Viv once said that we haven't seen "Alastor's party side yet." And I wondered how much more extreme his personality might be like in party mode given that his pilot self was already very whimsically chaotic.
And then the show came out and Alastor always looked .. so dead inside. People have pointed out that series Alastor feels more mature or toned down, and thought we lost his pilot personality forever. However , I feel like we will get to see a glimpse of pilot alastor when we see some of his flashbacks to his early days in hell.
Case in point : Mimzy tells us Alastor could drink like a sailor and endurance dance (this man absolutely went NUTS during Mardi Gras) . Which seems to throw the hotel folks off since that is not how Alastor comes across. The show still goes out of its way to bring this detail up, which makes me think it will be expanded upon later
Alastor was a radio host and an extroverted guy who probably liked being around other people. His initial time is hell was probably great! Chaos and free reign and a radio show about whatever he wants ! But then his seven year absence and fall out with Vox happened, and now he's stuck in a boring hotel where nobody cares about him. I hope a contrast between dead-inside-alastor and genuinely-happy-alastor throws the hotel off again and is used to highlight how miserable the man currently is. Which they could have figured out if they paid more attention
Tldr: I think we will see Alastor's pilot personality again
-N
Aaaa I think you're absolutely right about all of this!! People love to point out the differences between pilot Alastor and show Alastor, and while I agree there's a slight change in behaviour, I think we often forget to acknowledge the context has changed too. In the pilot (as far as we know) Alastor is an insanely powerful overlord who bows to no one, his only goal is entertainment and he goes to the hotel BY HIS OWN choice. And while that's still mostly true in the show, the difference is that Alastor is back from a seven year "sabatical" - a decision that probably wasn't even his, he separated from a close friend (Vox), he is now forced to work UNPAID for a hotel he doesn't care about and people he doesn't really like, and to top it off his soul is bound to someone else and he has no control over his own life. So, yeah anyone would be a lot more glum and less lively in those circumstances which honestly makes me sad because that spark of his is so fun and beautiful and I really hope we get to see it again in the show <33

This is kinda my main reason I want Mimzy as a hotel guest, she knows a lot about Alastor that no one else does and Alastor is probably more casual/playful with her than anyone else (A good comparison is when you meet up with an old friend and unconsciously start acting how you were when you hanged out with them previously). Also, I can see her befriending Angel Dust :)

Hm, you know what would be interesting?
We all assume Alastor learned how to make films from Vox, but what if he actually learned that...from Mimzy? We know from the play bill that Mimzy was in several shows in life and a few in death as well. But what kind of shows? Old pre series lore is that Mimzy had ties with Hollywood.
That ran in the same circles while alive ( entertainment ), so Al might have been introduced to the technology in the 20s-30s . Then he kept up to date while dead and then BOOM, a funky TV man shows up out of nowhere and Al knows just how to help him
-N
That is something I wondered for a bit! I don't think he learned much from her directly when it came to technology (Mimzy doesn't seem like the type to character about backstage stuff), BUT I can see him learning about it through her job. If Alastor did have a radio special with her I don't see why she wouldn't try to show off by bringing him to her job as well. In the old pre-show lore Alastor used to join in any Jazz bands he saw performing and he got away with it cause of his talent and persona, so I can definitely seeing him using that and his charm to get away with asking question about certain thing with the tech and the staging of everything (and unlike Charlie who ended up getting in the way of things during the porn studio incident, I can see Alastor being strategic to who and when he talks about it. Like waiting for a break in between filming to ask). Though I don't think 'professional' entertainment was the circle Mimzy was referring to since they did meet when she a performer in a illegal Jazz club (I say illegal cause it was serving alcohol during the prohibition era and was probably a more flapper type of enviroment) and cause I again don't see Alastor telling people he's a radio show host to people who might have power to get rid of his show, but I could be wrong about that and he could just lie and say he's a jazz player or a pianist that worked alongside Mimzy. Either way I do see him being able to become friendly with the tech people enough to learn from them! Especially since he would contrast with some of the directors and actors (I love Mimzy, she's one of my favorite side characters that I have a bunch of theories and headcanons about! But she does seem like a huge diva to work with.) who might cause them trouble or just not appreciate their work much.

My Views on the whole "Alastor isn't actually powerful" theory and why I think that would kinda betray his writing if true
Ok, starting off: I got no problems with the people who made or enjoy this theory, I'm just sharing my two-cents on it and using it as an excuse to talk about a character I like (✨Multitasking!✨).
So, my biggest issue with this is we know Alastor already has a false persona/mask he puts up first before all and it's not the scary one. It's the friendly, charming radio show host one. Does that mean he can't have multiple layers and multiple masks? Of course not and I do think he actually does. But, I don't think him being a dangerous person is one or that his power is fake or that it is solely dependent on his soul deal.
Some points on why I think this theory kinda falls flat:
The Overlord Deaths: This theory usually includes the idea that he didn't kill/erase the Overlords and that he just took credit for it. For my this is the biggest flaw of the whole thing. Yes, Alastor could have taken credit for their disappearances without actually doing it. But that wouldn't explain why people (We know this from Mimzy's backstory in the show and Vaggie explaining it in the pilot) could recognize the screams on his broadcast as The Overlords. Or the fact that if there were witnesses to the Overlords deaths (they did own souls and therefore had people working for them, not to crazy that on atleast one occasion there was a witness) they could probably mention who did this. So for this to function in the story, Alastor has to be working with the person who is killing the Overlords and recording their screams on the side AND also finding someway to make every single witness to the deaths agree to lie and say it was him. And keep this charade up for a hundred or so years... It seems like a huge stretch.
The Overlords Alive: Another flaw is the Overlords (including two former ones) that seem to believe Alastor can, in fact, be a serious threat to them. Yes, maybe he can trick the Overlords that don't know him too well (hard to believe Zestiel and Carmilla would allow him in Overlord meetings if they didn’t have some physical evidence that he isn’t a fraud) but what about the ones that do? Husk is an ex-Overlord and has worked for him for atleast a few decades. He knows specific personal/private details and secrets that no one else knows and in-canon is good at reading people like no one else INCLUDING Alastor. And yet, When Alastor threatens to tear his soul apart Husk doesn't react like he thinks Alastor can't do that. He reacts like he's seen the guy do that before. He knows Alastor's soul is owned by someone else, why would he not know if Alastor's power is also fake? There’s also the issue of Vox (and probably Valentino too since it’s possible he once tried to help Vox during a fight against Alastor, if his wording in ep.2 is anything to go by). They’ve fought atleast a few times and since it’s mentioned that both Vox and Valentino are canonically strong as overlords, how could he go against them repeatedly if he didn’t have any real power? From Vox’s reactions to him (multiple) he sees Alastor as a very real threat. As for the other Overlords they seem to have enough info to go off that they see Alastor and have some reluctant respect towards him, but it’s a bit more believable that they can be tricked.
We’ve seen Alastor’s strength when it’s limited: From the Season 1 finale’s song we know that his power is apparently limited or that he’s lacking in something. And yet. He still fights viciously throughout the season and shows more power and more of his demon form than the others. Most other sinner demons we see only show bits of their demon forms when they’re at their maddest. But Alastor? He will hint at it and constantly shift into it casually. I feel like that says something about his mastery over it and how much power he has to control it and alter it that easily and quickly.
Word/Design of the creator: Vivziepop since before and after the show has mentioned and described Alastor as powerful and dangerous. Once even describing his abilities as “A mystery to even me and maybe even him too until he tries it”. That fits with what we’re shown a lot more than every single thing we’ve seen being an elaborate trick.
Now am I saying Alastor is more powerful than anyone else? Hell no. I think he overestimates himself and underestimates everyone else. Mostly due to his ego, but also because he is more powerful than most other Sinners he’s met. I also don’t think his main false persona is being the scary radio demon. Yes, he uses that to his advantage but we see that that’s not his go-to. He always introduces himself (often in casual/professional situations) as just a friendly deer demon with a charismatic radio host personality. Because that would be better for deals and to manipulate others. Unlike many other demons he uses his demon form to his advantage to disarm people, we see this a bit: Kinda in Mimzy’s story, in the Overlord meeting, and anytime he’s interacting with the public (In Charlie’s commercial he seem like just a energetic camera guy/narrator, in Stayed Gone he only goes full radio demon when Vox loses the signal and the public can’t see/hear the broadcast anymore, etc). Including the audience in the side material! In the playbill and any emails from the hotel that are written by him he doesn’t really try to intimidate anyone. The most he does is his casually feed his ego and mention that he wants people to try to fight him.
How I see it is that his actual personality is a mix of the different roles he plays for his needs: The intimidating Radio Demon and The charming radio host deer demon and a secret third thing (A tired and bored control freak with anger issues that is purposefully sarcastic and sassy at anything that bores or annoys him). I don’t think it’s necessary to make his power fake when there’s already enough things fake about him that don’t cause plot holes or logical problems to the story of his writing.
So that was my ramble on this. Don’t take it too seriously as this was just how I see this theory and explaining why I don’t quite vibe with it.
Also, blame Amir Talai (Alastor’s VA) for being in an interview and talking about how the thing that makes Alastor’s voice interesting, in his opinion, is that even though he’s just using a stock TransAtlantic voice, him adding the malice and danger and sassiness of Alastor’s real personality is the reason why it’s so good. It barely connects to this topic but it did get me thinking. Curse you, Amir.
