“The best translations into English do not, in fact, read as if they were originally written in English. The English words are arranged in such a way that the reader sees a glimpse of another culture’s patterns of thinking, hears an echo of another language’s rhythms and cadences, and feels a tremor of another people’s gestures and movements.”

Eddie and Chris have been back in LA for a few days now. Eddie's been sleeping on the couch, like it's temporary, like they're still in a holding pattern. They haven't talked about anything yet.
At the dinner table one night, Chris sets down his fork and looks at them and asks, "So... what's going to happen now?"
Eddie tilts his head. "What do you mean?"
Chris shrugs, looking uncertain. "Well, you said this is Buck's house now. Are we going to move out?"
"No," Eddie says. "We're not going to move out. We're going to stay here."
Chris frowns, thinking it through. "With Buck?"
"Yes," Eddie says. "With Buck."
Chris is still frowning, trying to figure it out. "What like... forever?"
And Eddie doesn't hesitate. "Yeah."
Chris nods, like that makes sense. "OK," he says, accepting.
Buck has been sitting in stunned silence throughout this exchange but once Chris has retreated to his room, he corners Eddie in the kitchen. "Eddie, what the fuck?" he asks, voice sharp.
Eddie blinks at him. "What?" he asks.
Voice pitching up a little, Buck says, "Uh, I don't think it's a good idea for you to tell Chris stuff that isn't true."
Eddie frowns. "Like what?"
Buck gestures wildly. "Like that we're all going to live here together forever!"
Calmly, as if it's obvious, Eddie shrugs. "Well we are, aren't we? I know we haven't talked about it yet but... I think we are."
Buck just gapes at him. "What?"
Eddie carries on loading the dishwasher, as if this is a totally normal conversation to be having. Then he glances back over his shoulder and says, "I do think that's what's going to happen, Buck. I think that's what we should do."
Buck splutters, desperately trying to find a thread of logic. "But- but how would that even work? You don't even have a bedroom! What if you want to bring someone home? What if you get a girlfriend?"
Eddie scrunches up his mouth, like he's thinking it over. "I don't think I'm going to," he says.
Buck says, voice rising, "You don't think you're gonna, what? Have a girlfriend? Ever again?"
"No, I don't think so. I don't think I am," Eddie says.
Buck is flailing. "OK, OK," he says, "But you still don't have a bedroom. Are you planning to sleep on the couch forever?"
Eddie says, "No, I'm not planning to sleep on the couch forever."
Buck runs a hand through his hair. "Eddie, what are you talking about? What do you mean?," he asks.
Eddie says, "Hmm," and takes a step forward. "I guess I mean something like this-" and he kisses him. Hooray.

Dr Robby being deeply connected to his Judaism but saying he’s not sure if he believes in god. Someone in that writers room is a Jew because that’s like most of the Jews I know. Robby wears his Jewish star every day and uses the shema like a mantra to calm his panic attacks and he 100% is Jewish and loves being Jewish and believes in what Jews stand for - most importantly taking part in tikkun olam and saving lives because he knows that every human life is its own world and saving one is like saving the whole world. I literally cannot describe enough how central being Jewish is to Dr Robby’s character he is so special to me. This is what we need. No more money hungry shylocks or neurotic nebishy Howard wolowitz-esque characters. Just real people who are Jewish and whose Judaism informs the way they see the world and how they act. Dr Robby, or should I say DR MICHAEL ROBINAVITCH, is the hero of this show and he’s jewish and it’s not in spite of but BECAUSE OF his Judaism that he is the heroic ER doctor that he is.

whatever you do, don't think about Buck and Eddie getting ready for the funeral at Buck's - their - place, and Eddie helping Buck with his tie because his hands keep shaking, and this being the thing that makes Buck finally break into sobs

My special talent is doing themes and motifs while it's also very clearly a sex thing. Themes Motifs and Sex Thing go hand in hand sometimes. Maybe they're kissing. Sloppy with tongue. Feeling each other up. It's thematically relevant that she has an ovipositor it's part of my autistic vision. Artistic

re: your tags the way buck is the only one (1) member of the 118 who Canonically starts floundering the second bobby's out of sight... by his own admission too.... doesn't have hen's/chim's tenure nor hen's sturdiness nor eddie's firm competence... and yet they're probably gonna end his arc on the show on the note of him becoming/set to become a captain 😭 even though he's got SO much work to do there 😭 the world is an unfair place.....
i knowwww it’s honestly really disappointing to think about bc i feel it only makes sense from a rather shallow reading of him! like yes he’s very obviously expressed that he wanted to be chosen and the fact that they made it such a Point about it being that bobby deemed him ready yet for just feels like a clear setup for him becoming captain to come across as Growth and a natural conclusion for his character, but like hima’s post and the added tags pointed out - it feels much like it wasn’t so much about being captain itself that upset buck, but that he wasn’t a consideration. bobby’s opinion is one he values so highly and for him to believe that bobby doesn’t think he’s worthy would of course cause him to want to prove himself all the more. but i don’t feel like the answer to that is ‘buck needs to prove he is good enough’ but more ‘buck needs to learn his inherent value beyond what others think of him’ and i feel like in doing that, he’d realize captaincy is not really where his heart or skillset actually lie
in contrast, i think the fact that eddie was completely unfazed about not being considered and even rationalized it with the fact that he’d only just returned to the 118, demonstrates that he has the ability to take emotions out of the equation and think practically that would fit the role really well!! but i fear we’ll just have to dream of this world :(

Correct me if you think I'm wrong, because you have a bigger brain than me. I've always seen Buck's relationships as him trying to prove something to them. That he was mature enough and not just a fuck boy with Abby, that he wasn't going to revert with Alli, that he could work at something with Taylor, that he was okay after he died with Natalia, that he isn't unsure or confused with Tommy. And with Eddie? Well, it can't be romantic (he thinks)! There's nothing to prove there, it's too easy.
so true. and buck thinking – well it's too easy. and too big. and I want it too much. and I never get the big easy beautiful big things that I want. so of course that is something that I won't even give attention to. re: eddie. I think what I keep coming back to is like. has buck told Eddie that he hooked up with Tommy and about the conversation they had afterward, because I don't think he has. I think somewhere in his brain he knows better than to bring it up. and won't until/unless he is pushed into it. and backed into another corner. and lashes out about it. and Eddie (because he knows and understands buck) will not be swayed by this and will not allow buck to chase him away/push him out the door. because he knows that if he stays and does not leave, then buck will calm down into a semi-reasonable person who can be spoken with.

Eddie is touching him.
Not, like, right now. At this very moment while Buck stirs a sauce. But ever since he got back from Texas, Eddie has been—just touching him more. And Buck feels a little bit crazy about it.
Because it’s not like it’s a big thing. He’s not groping Buck’s ass or whatever (though in fairness, Buck wouldn’t say no to Eddie groping his ass). It’s just like—
Like, riding across from each other in the engine, Buck is used to their knees knocking together. But now when they do, Eddie doesn’t let them drift apart again. Instead he presses his knee against Buck’s and leaves it there. Or Buck will go to show Eddie something on his phone, and Eddie will rest his head on Buck’s shoulder to look. Even though Buck could just hand him the phone.
The other day on the couch, Buck swung his feet up into Eddie’s lap, which is something that he does as a joke, because Eddie always pushes them away. But Eddie didn’t push them away this time. He let Buck’s feet rest there. Laid a hand on top of them, in fact, his thumb brushing the jut of Buck’s anklebone, and Buck had to resist actually shivering.
And now he’s cooking, and Eddie’s there in the kitchen to keep him company. And if Buck didn’t know better, he’d say—he’d say that Eddie was finding excuses to touch him. Wiping a speck of sauce off his cheek. Squeezing his arm to say thanks when Buck gives him a bite of chicken to try. And now Buck has asked Eddie to grab him a spatula, the specific green one he likes, and when Eddie passes behind him, he puts a wholly unnecessary hand on the small of Buck’s back like he’s squeezing behind him at a bar. Buck feels it in his whole spine.
“You’ve been, uh. Pretty touchy lately.”
Eddie paused, but he doesn’t move his hand from Buck’s lower back. “That a problem?”
“No,” Buck says. Maybe too quickly. “No, it’s fine, I like it, just—why?”
Eddie shrugs. “Trying something.”
Buck twists around from the stove to look at Eddie properly. “Trying what?”
Eddie meets Buck’s gaze through his lashes. “Letting myself want.”

i think it's cute when americans talk about being from the 'great state of connecticut' or like 'the great state of wisconsin.' not when it's texas or new york or california obviously because then there's the fear that they're being serious. but when americans adopt that really earnest tone and are like 'god bless the great state of delaware' in response to a picture of a seagull swallowing an entire ziplock bag full of cheese-its. I think that's very endearing
