i know i've said this before but i do wholeheartedly believe that bbc merlin isn't queerbait, it's subtext and allegory. i mean i can't deny that the way it invokes closet anxiety has a baiting effect but like. does it not also just... authentically reflect the feeling of having a terrible secret which you desperately want to share but never know if you can. is all-pervading anxiety and restlessness and a constant sense of being on tenterhooks because any moment now the time will be right, we just have to wait a few moments longer... not accurate? queerness is not simply a marketing tactic here it's the entire substance of the story

i am haunted by the following scenario and i will make it y’alls problem: gwen finds out merlin has magic around s1-2 (whether merlin knows she knows is irrelevant).

even when she and arthur start a courtship she would not betray merlin and reveal his secret, absolutely not–EXCEPT merlin goes missing–like in A Servant of Two Masters? the point is that merlin is gone and arthur’s being pressured to stop the search. and gwen is like hey, no, no, I am pretty sure he’s alive. and leon’s like my lady we all saw him fall over the cliff. and gwen’s like yea no no I get that but you know merlin, he has a strong head.

like this poor girl is like arthur PLEASE look into um. those magic caves. and those rumoured magic sanctuaries. for absolutely no reason. i just have a hunch.

eventually Something makes gwen think merlin is dead too and then and only then does she tell arthur everything she knows because she thinks merlin should at least be recognised for all he did. and hey, maybe this will change arthur’s mind about magic; maybe gwen can do this one thing for her deceased friend.

and obviously, right after arthur processes her words and get confirmation from gaius, lancelot, etc., merlin walks in like damn who died 🧍🏻

you know, when the 118 found out about maddie, they noticed that she was older than buck by more years than a typical sibling age gap, and they all probably assumed that buck was an accident. i bet they all felt a bit privately guilty when they found out he was actually the worst kind of on purpose

buck is rolling over half-conscious and mumbling “i could be your controversially younger girlfriend” and eddie is saying “what?” and buck has already fallen asleep

no matter how many fics there are of it, i will never get tired of buck looking for apartments, eddie catching him and saying "i told you that you can stay as long as you need" and all variations thereof (EDDIE YOU DOPE THAT IS NOT THE SAME AS ASKING BUCK TO STAY), and buck replying "yeah but i gotta go, i can't stay, i gotta get outta your hair so you and chris can get back to normal" (BUCK YOU DOPE NEITHER OF THEM WANT YOU GONE), and eddie proceeding to take that so so so personally that he either panics and blurts "OKAY BUT I WANT YOU TO STAY" or he just bluescreens and lets buck move out even though he hates it so so so much and then a week or more later he's throwing rocks at buck's window in the middle of the night and holding up a boombox playing "come back to me" by vanessa hudgens or yknow however the author goes about it bc i'm frankly not picky

love how by the beginning of the next episode bobby (and i assume everyone else) knows about maddie. like the second she’s back in buck’s life, he probably went yap crazy about his big sister.
