languages that don't distinguish between formal and informal you are missing out on so much petty drama. my grandparents have two neighbours who once got into a huge fight over something honestly pretty trivial, so neighbour A said he was going to revoke neighbour B's du (informal you) privileges. neighbour B was like "okay but can i use du one last time?" and neighbour A was like "yeah go ahead", and neighbour B said "du arschloch" (you asshole). incredible.

Count reprints, later editions of the same book, etc. If you have a copy that includes multiple books in one volume, you can count that, but do not count sequels/etc on their own. You can count ebooks and audiobooks if you possess the files in a permanent way (borrowed and streamed don't count).

#i only own two copies of the same book if it's in different languages#for example i read red rising when i was like 13 or something in german and now i am rereading them in english#same goes for frankenstein and to the lighthouse otherwise i only have one copy of each of my books#but that could change in the future (i am looking at you berserk collection and my falling apart edition of american psycho)

This has been a topic in one of my discord groups today and I’m so curious what everyone’s approach is as a writer.
Writing linearly means starting at the beginning of the story and writing each scene in chronological order from beginning to end.
Writing non-linearly means you might start midway through the story and write the beginning later, or you might write scenes at random and join them up later, or you add in placeholders as you write to go back to later (like “add action scene here”).
Outlining means coming up with a sequence of plot points to guide the story - i.e. planning/mapping out what the main story beats will be throughout it.
Personally I’m a linear writer, and I don’t outline. I have a loose idea of where the story is going to go, but that’s it. And I can’t skip scenes or use placeholder text — my brain starts shrieking at me lmao.
#i am seriously all over the place#i usually write down some ideas and then just start writing linearly but it can change when i am writing that is much longer#so maybe i will go non linear if i have a specific scene in mind that I NEED to write right this moment#i rarely outline much and when i do it's still all over the place even with academic writing#in academic writing i never go linear though i put everything in order at the end because i am horrible at intros and my outlines are#cryptic as fuck

Fall in love and stay in love. Explode. Don't intellectualize. Get passionate about ideas. Cram your head full of images. Stay in the library. Stay off the internet and all that crap. Read all the great books. Read all the great poetry. See all the great films. Fill your life with metaphors. And then explode.
