i refuse to believe peter hale doesn't know how to tend children (particularly newborns and infants). Because IN MY HEAD, the hale pack had plenty of them and peter had babysat some of those babies; including talia's children (cora was a nightmare) when she was occupied with pack matters and he was in town.

so now I'm imagining an accidental baby acquisition (+steter) where the mccall/derek's hale pack randomly got a werewolf baby out of nowhere and none of them has a clue what to do with this screaming little monster because it's a fucking werewolf and not human so naturally they can't bring the baby to the hospital or anything unless they want it hunted by hunters or freak out the poor workers.

everyone tried to put scott (because he works at the vet) and the girls (because they're girls, so naturally they have maternal instincts, right? big fucking wrong, also that's rude to assume based on gender) on the job, but neither work. they thought of calling melissa and the sheriff or even chris and deaton for help, but the four are all busy or whatever they just can't help them out lol

so they're stuck for days with a baby who refuses to sleep, to eat, or do anything but stop screaming and crying on top of the lungs and it's just pure chaos with sleep-deprived humans and supernaturals, when suddenly peter fucking hale comes in, takes the baby in his arms, starts to barking orders to the betas and even the alpha in charge, and performs whatever he needs to and it sure is fucking magic because the baby finally stops crying.

(a very much sleep-deprived stiles asked if peter had jesus possessing him because that was definitely a miracle)

peter: Is that such a surprise to you? You people always forget that I was born in a pack, and one would often help care for the young.

peter hale, the former alpha werewolf, a certified asshole and sociopath, and a loose serial killer; gently holding a sleeping werewolf baby with a full stomach in his arms, trying to help it burp.

and since this is steter stiles' crush on him gets deeper like ohmygodthismakesmewanttohaveababybutidontwantababyiwantthismanandthebabyasapackagedeal because peter doesn't seem like the type to be so good at taking care for children and babies (like look at him!! he scoffs at teens and their drama! what is stiles supposed to think???) and stiles is so on the boat for that

meanwhile lydia there is watching him like jfc your pining is all pathetic, miserable, adorable, and disgusting all at the same time🙄 she basically tells him he's got a thing for single dads or just a particular single dad and gave him an exasperated look when her words finally sunk into him

They were looking for every reason for Merritt Lingard disappearance. The men she spurned, the people she put away into jail, the people she tried to put away into jail. The overarching question of it all was: who did Merritt Lingard, the "blunt weapon", "rueful" woman, and "cunt" as her own dad called her, piss off enough to deserve being kidnapped and/or murdered. She internalized it as well, having written all the names of the people she might have done wrong in her life on the walls of her own prison for four years to answer the question of "why are you here?". Merritt Lingard was going to resign herself to death because she believed this must be the reckoning for the life she's lived. But it turns out, the answer to this mystery was not divine reckoning for something Meritt had done, and even if it was, it's not something she would have deserved. It was because of something she had no control over, the actions of a family completely unrelated to her and a sordid history of abuse in that family she had nothing to do with. She didnt deserve it. She was just the sin eater for the bad decisions of every person around her. No wonder the show starts with Merritt (unsuccessfully) attempting to put a powerful man who murdered his wife in jail, the whole story is a repudiation of the logic of abusers: "even if I did it, you deserved it anyways".
