I have been thinking about a “what if” verse for if Irina’s life didn’t go to absolute shit and she was never experimented on.

I’m thinking in this AU, her mother Fuyumi doesn’t die in childbirth and her father Gunnar also lives; her mother’s parents, the Tanakas, unfortunately wanted nothing to do with her, disowning their daughter for a) marrying a non-Japanese man and b) marrying a poor man, who they considered lower class (they’re wealthy business owners I think). However, although Fuyumi’s parents and paternal family, the Tanaka family, disowned her, her maternal side of the family, the Ishida family, did not, instead happily embracing both Irina and her father Gunnar, welcoming them. Gunnar, for his part, doesn’t have much family left, I think, maybe a few distant relatives.

As a result, Irina grew up multicultural; living and growing up in Germany, but taking frequent family trips to Japan, and getting to partake in both German and Japanese traditions and holidays. In this verse, she speaks three languages fluently; German, Japanese, and English.
