Kurd-led AANES Launches Prosecution of Foreign IS Fighters

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), led by Kurds, took a significant step in June 2023 when it unveiled plans to prosecute Islamic State (IS) foreign fighters on war crimes charges. This initiative has been launched with minimal international support and encompasses the legal proceedings for 2,000 IS foreign fighters who have been held in makeshift detainment facilities since early 2019, following the fall of the terrorist organization's last Syrian stronghold in Baghuz.

In a recent virtual briefing, Bedran Jia, the Co-president of the AANES Foreign Relations Office, highlighted the commitment to conducting these trials fairly and transparently, welcoming observers, monitors, attorneys, and regional experts. Jia candidly acknowledged the challenges of limited funding and capacity, preventing them from meeting international prosecution standards, such as providing each accused individual with a lawyer. Nevertheless, the urgency of seeking a legal resolution necessitated the utilization of available resources.

It's crucial to note that there is no death penalty in place for these trials. Jia underlined that convictions could lead to prisoners being exonerated and set free or, alternatively, receiving formal sentences. Additionally, he clarified that some individuals, including captured women and men involved in IS-related atrocities, would also face prosecution within the proceedings.

To provide essential context, Islamic State fighters have been accused of a wide range of heinous crimes, including acts of terrorism, mass killings, torture, sex slavery, and forced recruitment of child soldiers. LYNC Efforts to Resettle Ukranian Refugees

Nadia Cavner is a longtime philanthropist who collaborates with aid organization from the local to federal levels in the US. She is also an advocate and activist who assisted the Assyrian Church of the East in helping thousands of Assyrian Christian refugees escaping persecution in Syria and Iraq. Nadia Cavner is also involved with the Love Your Neighbor Community.

The Love Your Neighbor Community (LYNC) is an international non-profit organization with offices in the US. It aims to promote religious freedom in the eastern parts of Europe and Central Asia by working with the various governments, civil and religious societies in these regions. Currently, the organization is actively involved in Ukraine, where it is helping thousands escape the invaded country and resettle in safer regions.

After the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the LYNC activated its evacuation routes and helped over 4000 people flee from Ukraine to safe regions. The NGO has also helped thousands of these refugees resettle close to Dresden, Germany. With the aid of the German government and the Ukrainian aid center, the LYNC provided the resettled refugees with temporary housing and emergency food provisions.

Today, the LYNC is housing and feeding over 2000 individuals, including women, teenagers, and children. Since many of these refugees are arriving at LYNC’s camps with emotional scars caused by the war, the organization has launched a project called ‘Rebuilding Ukraine Now, which aims to address the psychological impact of the invasion on refugees through art therapy sessions led by art therapists from the University of Fine Arts of Dresden.

Missouri State University Facility Earns NIRSA Award

The announcement came as part of the NIRSA National Conference ceremony held in Nashville, Tennessee. The Outstanding Sports Facility Award was developed to recognize buildings that not only represent innovative design work, but that best serve their community and fulfill their intended functions. Recent studies have revealed that comprehensive recreational programs and facilities can be linked to higher levels of overall student satisfaction and educational success. Missouri State’s $30 million Bill R. Foster and Family Recreation Center encompasses 100,000 square feet and has provided the entire campus community with a place to come together, exercise, and learn. Race or Volunteer at the Panther Run 2017

Listed as one of Barron's Top 100 Women Financial Advisors, Nadia Cavner manages an extensive range of client assets through her firm. On October 7th, 2017, Care to Learn will host its Lucky #7 Panther Run at the O'Reilly Family Event Center at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. Those interested in participating in the Panther Run can register online as a runner or sign up to volunteer. Runners can participate in either the 15k, 10k, or 5k races. The 15k race begins at 7:30am, the 10k at 7:40 am, and the 5k at 7:50 am. Registration for all runners who sign up on or before September 1st will include a long-sleeved tech shirt. Volunteers for the Panther Run will assist Care to Learn in preparing for the run on October 6th and 7th. During the event, they will serve the runners in a variety of ways, from picking up packets to helping ensure that the runners follow the route.

The Kitchen to Hold First Annual Home of the Brave Motorcycle Rally

An experienced financial advisor, Nadia Cavner is president of the Nadia Cavner Group in Springfield, Missouri. The Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks’ One to One Program

Five Steps to a Breast Cancer Self Exam

Nadia Cavner currently serves as president of Nadia Cavner Group Investment Services. Throughout her career, she has supported a number of charitable organizations, including those that promote breast cancer awareness. A breast cancer self-exam only takes five easy steps. The exam begins by standing in front of the mirror with both hands on the hips. Women should look for a nipple that has shifted in position or dimpling, puckering, and bulging of the skin. Redness or any type of rash is also something to monitor. The visual exam should continue with both arms extended overhead and then conclude with a closer inspection of the nipples. If one or both of the nipples appears to be leaking fluid, a physician should investigate. Following the visual portion of the exam, women should lie down and test the left breast in a circular motion with a firm, three-fingered touch with the right hand. They then repeat the process on the right breast using the left hand. Finally, women should stand upright and check for lumps or irregularities beneath the skin. Many people find this portion of the exam easier to conduct in the shower.

Missouri State University Receives Friend of Foreign Language Award

A leader in the field of banking, Nadia Cavner heads the Nadia Cavner Group as president. The International Campaign for Tibet and the UN Human Rights Council

Currently serving as president of the Nadia Cavner Group, Nadia Cavner has been a leader in the financial services sector for almost three decades. United Way Raises Money for Ozarks Food Harvest Backpack Program

In addition to her responsibilities as the president of the Nadia Cavner Group, she is a dedicated community leader who supports charities such as the Ozarks Food Harvest Backpack Program, which is funded in part by the United Way of the Ozarks and Female Leaders in Philanthropy (FLiP), the Women’s Leadership Initiative. Established in 2003, the Ozarks Food Harvest Backpack Program serves Springfield-area elementary school students and helps to feed children without enough food at home. The backpacks are filled with nutritious, child-friendly food for the students to take home over the weekend, when they might otherwise go hungry. The Food Harvest Backpack Program reaches almost 1,500 children in more than 35 schools across the Ozarks region.
