local tumblrina intentionally misses the point!!! where do i mention kink? i’m talking about media literacy and representation. my issue is with the optics of a rich white woman using the aesthetics of degradation as “irony” or “clever commentary” in a time when inceldom, anti-feminism rhetoric, and tradwife culture are resurging & when black and brown women are continuing to be dehumanized, hypersexualized, or dismissed in media. i’m talking about the danger of this and the idgaf response I’ve seen mostly from white people.
full offense but if kink-coded imagery is indistinguishable from actual sexist tropes and fuels the exact narratives it’s supposedly critiquing—it’s lazy af!!!! women engaging in kink isn’t misogynistic but mass-marketing that aesthetic without nuance or care can be…
i think sabrina carpenter’s fans who are upset about the outrage behind her new album cover need to be honest and admit that both her and their views on feminism are limited to rich white women’s. idk, if you don’t see how posing seductively while being yanked by a man is degrading and off-putting to others, then you’re ignorant to today’s climate. media literacy is absolutely in the gutter, inceldom is on the rise, and young women are gravitating toward tradwife aesthetics. “it’s clever, it’s ironic, it’s witty!!!” to who? not to women of colour, especially black women, who are the main ones compared to dogs and dehumanized in media. and definitely not to the men who will fail to grasp the message she is (allegedly) intending to put out and instead just give more ammo to degrade women.
edit: and just to be clear, women are absolutely allowed to be sexy! but there is a clear difference between what is empowering and what is straight up objectification.

i know it’s probably moot to complain about this but the way k-pop stans are already going to bat for annie moon, who debuted literally two days ago, just bc she’s a chaebol is fucking insane and incredibly hypocritical. these are the same people who claim they hate corporations….yet are now lining to defend someone who is from one of the wealthiest and most evil families in south korea.
years ago, i watched a short documentary on youtube about hwang yumi, the 21 yr old who died of leukemia after being exposed to toxic chemicals found in a samsung plant. her father, hwang sangki, spoke with extensive grief on how he was poor and couldn’t afford to send her to school so she sacrificed her youth and worked in poorly ventilated conditions and eventually was diagnosed with leukemia and died in the backseat of his car on the way to the hospital. samsung was incredibly hostile and refused to acknowledge any link between their working conditions and yumi’s death. her father fought them in court for years and samsung only apologized and agreed to compensation after more than a decade of public pressure.
go hyunjung has had to find public means to speak to her children since divorcing the samsung heir bc he barred her from seeing them. there’s rumours she was shunned by his family bc of her non‑wealthy background and mocked for not being able to speak english properly.
ofc annie had nothing to do with these events. but her family has repeatedly shown contempt, or at least indifference, toward working‑class people that makes up the general population of korea. so it shouldn’t be this surprise that her sudden celebrity within kpop rubs so many koreans the wrong way.
#anyway good luck to allday project or wtv…#that debut was a whole bunch of nothing bc kpop stans will gag over anything

i just learned that that account you posted a while back has written a 140k porn fic on ao3 centering on hoseok and jungkook as brothers. like actual blood related brothers who have sex. the tags are incest and sibling incest on that fic
i don't know how to convey my speechlessness when i found that out but idk i just feel shocked that these are ppl who have huge followings and are so present in these kpop spaces
WHAAAATTTTTTT
#when did that blog have time to write a 140k porn fic when their supposed time as an army lapsed between the releases of dynamite and be 😭#GRIFTER ALERT GRIFTER ALERT

#hence why her calculated hypersexualized vixen persona worked after 5 failed attempts of making a commercially successful album
this is my thing with her. like current sabrina has always felt like such a made up super stylized facade. which plenty of popstars have a persona i guess but many manage to have moment of genuineness and with her i just get vibes that it's all so fake. so when people act like with her there's some genuine thoughtfulness there or whatever i just don't get it. idk maybe that's not fair.
her persona was built off of the years of desperation to make a successful album, and it finally paid off for her last year. ofc i totally understand that she’d want to continue maintaining this level of fame, especially knowing most pop girls do have an expiration date (and she’s 26).
but my issue is her fans not being genuine when they keep boasting her to be this man-hating feminist icon. she doesn’t hate men. she hates the men who did HER wrong. there’s absolutely a difference there. she hasn’t done anything that yells feminism to me. in most of her songs she does talk about her being the better choice.
anyway, i’m not trying to be a hater nor am i a fan. espresso was a cute song. short n sweet was not a good album and did not deserve that grammy. her new album cover is offputting. but hey! she got people who don’t generally gaf abt her to talk about her, so there’s that!
